[Pre-Sale] Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 32GB/3GB Ram Gold USD $180 (~AUD $234.20) @ AliExpress

140

This seems to be a great deal!

With Snapdragon 636, it is definitely worth the $50 upgrade from the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus.

Although, I am quite skeptical on it's legitimacy. The website specs shows that this phone has a Snapdragon 625 and looks nothing like the photos.

Don't forget cashback!

    • fixed, thanks! I was looking at the black variant

  • Next to it the $500 Mi Mix2 looks good too.

    • just a few issues i came accross:

      • The phone doesn't allow for Quick Charge 4, they seem to have disabled it due to heating issues(hopefully a software update changes this)(its limited to 5V/2A)
      • The phone is also limited to 1080p recording, again due to something related to the chipset heating. (not clear anywhere)
      • It seems the camera app is soo basic that it doesn't use all the optics the phone is capable of…

I thought no earphone jack is a much greater issue…

        • no it does have a 3.5inch headphone jack

        • +1

@Elijah: You talking about the phone in the OP? Cause the Mix 2 definitely does not have a headphone jack.

        • @Elijah: Is that 3.5inch jack 2 tuck ur headphones away safely? :)

  • Thanks Op. I am looking for a large phone Mi Max or Mi Max 2. Anybody knows any deals? Thanks

  • …and with 10% cash back with CashRewards

  • Can someone explain why the specs/picture of the phone doesn't match up with the page on the xiaomi website?

Seems that Redmi 5 Plus in India is called Redmi Note 5.

  • +6

Be careful with this. A global version of the Redmi note 5 is yet to be announced but will most likely be based on the recently released China version. In India it's called Redmi note 5 Pro but it is slightly different again (with less LTE bands).

Anything on AliExpress at the moment is a pre-order for a phone that hasn't been released yet.

Yeah, apparently they even have camera positioned differently:

Global stands for the global rom the phone comes with. It is the Chinese variant which has the better camera over the Indian "pro" version. The Chinese Redmi Note 5 has been released (with global rom), but these resellers are unlikely to have stock now so that's why most are quoting 40+ days shipping.

this one is cheaper and has 4gb ram?
    am i missing something

This is for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 while the one you linked is for the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus. Main difference is Snapdragon 625 vs 636.

      • ah i see, okay thanks

      • +1

The camera is totally different as well. The Chinese Redmi Note 5 is the pick of the Redmi Note bunch.

You get a hell of a lot of decent phone for $234. The 4/64 version would be perfect but fetches an extra $50+.

  • thanks ordered one few hours back for 229 aud.

no android one is a nuisance so once again dependent on chinese roadmap for updates instead of google …..
i just hit ebay and bought the mi A1, it has android one support.
625 vs 636 vs 820 …… no point having fast cpu if you can’t get updates when needed.

rather 625 with android one than 636 and wait for xiaomi to decide when they update.

    • +1

A1 4/64 is going at similar prices on litb.
I have a note 3 for less than 2 yrs, cant remember how many updates, but more than 6 for sure. Often enough for me.

This does seem very strange as this phone (Redmi Note Pro) is not listed anywhere with 3GB….its either 4 or 6GB… Also its meant to have a 20 MP front camera. I smell a bait and switch here.

The Redmi Note 5 (China) is the redmi Note 5 Pro (india) and the redmi note 5 (india) is the one with the single camera. They could easily send that one and say sorry we got the picture wrong. Also it doesnt mention anything about dual camera in the description.

The Redmi Note Pro (dual camera in india) is very new but if it is becoming available soon why hasnt gearbest or LITB got a deal on it?

A bit suss on this….I think they are working on the naming confusion between regions which can also be seen on comments above… its a no from me

    • -1

I don't know why you guys struggle with India Xiaomi website. Based on the Chinese website http://item.mi.com/product/10000084.html, it does have 3GB version. And I think it's a Chinese retailer in Alibaba, they won't even notice about the Indian version Redmi.

      • +1

I guess its cause the english website doesn't mention it and the Chinese one is difficult to navigate….. But thanks for the info….Is still a no for me…Id pay a little extra for 4/64 GB

        • Any good deal for 4/64GB version?

    • The Indian version is completely different to the Chinese version. They're definitely not the same phone. The Redmi Note 5 Pro is strictly Indian only, which is why you won't see it on typical Chinese reseller sites LITB etc.
The Indian phone came first, then this with slightly upgraded rear camera and different network bands (IIRC)

The redmi Note 5 pro in india is the same as the redmi note 5 in china, spec for spec… https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8893&idPhone2… …. There is also the redmi 5 Plus which can also go by the Redmi Note 5 name according to gsm arena
        https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_5_(redmi_5_plus)-8959.php

        • Mate it's different. And the source isn't very specific with it's specifications. Seriously, go and look.

          Primary
          Dual: 12 MP (f/2.2, 1.25 μm) + 5 MP (f/2.0, 1.12 μm), phase detection autofocus, LED flash
          Dual: 12 MP (f/1.9, 1.4 μm) + 5 MP (f/2.0, 1.12 μm), dual-pixel phase detection autofocus, LED flash

          Secondary
          20 MP (f/2.2, 1/2.8", 1 μm), LED flash, 1080p
          13 MP, LED flash, 1080p

          ^ different cameras

          4G Network
          LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 40(2300), 41(2500)
          LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 34(2000), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)

          ^ different supported network bands.

        • -1

@PR0r: Just knew someone would come back with this minor difference….I think you are splitting hairs a bit. They are practically identical..The 4g network differ due to the region .. Its like saying the LG G4 H811 is different phone from the LG G4 H815.

The other Redmi 5 Plus also known as the Redmi Note 5 is the problem with an actual significant difference….single camera , different processor, different weight, different size etc etc….

        • -1

@pointnlarf: Well minor differences would then mean they're not identical spec for spec. There was mixed signals from the media months back about the naming of the Redmi 5 Plus being the new Redmi Note 5, some quoting Xiaomi on saying they're done with the Redmi note series. But here we are..

        • -2

@PR0r: My example with the LG G4 covers this….. regional variants of the SAME phone…Same size weight …form factor…. some small regional variations on some internals….Like I said…you are splitting hairs

        • @pointnlarf: I don't have any knowledge of those phones so it's not helping any. But yes, regional variants with different rear and front cameras and network bands. :) I'm not splitting hairs here, I feel you've taken what I've said the wrong way.

        • -2

          @PR0r:
          this is what you said

"The Indian version is completely different to the Chinese version. They're definitely not the same phone."

The galaxy S9 they sell in Austalia and the one they sell in the US…

are they the same phone or not?

or are they regional variations of the same phone?
