Honestly not interested until it's under 1000. $999.99 seems perfect to me

    • +1

Well, this price combine with some gift card discount (I got 6.5% off with Lumo Energy) and TRS, the actual price will comes down to $970.

  • If anyone wants a 5% coupon PM me. First come first serve

    • Could I please have the code? :)

    • Code doesn't work for mobile phones

    • Code has been sent!

      • Useless as it excludes mobile phones.

Warning: anyone to buy this phone, do not upgrade to 8.1 stay at 8.0 until Google fix a multitouch bug.

    • +6

I'm on Android 8.1 and have noticed no multitouch bugs. Have you experienced this or are you going off what something has said?
It's undeniable that there are bugs in every update. Just a small subset of users are affected by this, not enough to exactly refuse to upgrade.

      • +7

At least with Pixel phones you get updates \o/

      • -4

        https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/70344455
Well, I should speak more specific,if you do fps games a lot. Do not upgrade.

        • I'm aligned with this person

I am aware that is an issue that affects people. But! I have a pixel 2 xl myself on 8.1 and I cannot reproduce the bug. I tried very hard, many games, the multitouch test app, x and y axis cross like described multiple times here and shown in the videos. My device is not affected at all.

I game on my Pixel and have not experienced any kind of bug, which begs the question of why?

        • -5

@pennypincher98:well I do not want argue with you. It is just a suggestion. Maybe you are the lucky one have a perfect unit. Many out there does affected by this bug on 8.1. it is still more safer stay at 8.0 for now. Not everyone know how to or want to spend time downgrade to 8.0 when they find out they are not as lucky as you on 8.1.

        • @ce5himm: I'm not arguing with you, I'm just pointing out the fact that everyone is not affected by this. I agree it's better to stay on 8.0 but as I am a 'lucky one' I can't comment on the severity of this issue.
People were making such a massive complaint about the screen but I haven't experienced any of the issues besides a slight blueish tint when I'm holding my phone at an angle - which I never do anyway.

    • I agree with this guy. I don't get the downvotes. multitouch is acting funny since 8.1 update

    • +2

I agree the Pixel 2 had bigger bezels than anticipated but there is nothing wrong with the 2XL.
Even the normal Pixel 2 looks okay. Not exactly 2018 new, but far from "ugliest phone"

      • -4

        Name an uglier phone

        • +1

          I'll wait

        • +3

          XCute DV2

        • Amazing, all these neg votes yet only 1 uglier phone has been pointed out

  • +6

Anyone looking at this should consider the $59 Telstra plan (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/363865)
Yes this is the 128gb but you get unlimited photo storage anyway and the plan + Google Home Mini are worth the extra $267

    • +2

What if you are already on contract with a different telecom provider like optus? Would that still be a better deal?

  • +1

Anyone looking at this should consider the LG V30+, I just got one and seriously happy, Oreo update is not far off, SD card support, quad dac, smaller and lighter but with the same screen, nicer looking, ultra wide second camera, and 270 bucks less. While I do put a lot of emphasis on updates, I couldn't justify getting this pixel against all the above

    • -1

Hang on to your receipt for warranty!

      • Local stock and 2 year warranty.and forgot to mentiom dual sim

    • Agreed far superior overall.

    • if it was same price?

    • Yeah I guess it depends how much you value a better camera and stock Android.

    • LG has the worst software skin of them all.

      • I dont know why people comolain about this, install any launcher including google's free one and problem solved

        • No, it's not problem solved - the LAUNCHER isn't skinned - it's OS-WIDE and it's f'ing disgusting and unusable.

  • I have this phone the 64 GB version on that telstra plan, its noce as being Google is simple and clean.

I also have 8.1 and have not experienced any issues.

My problem is battery time is crap, I use is for courier work so GPS / google maps is on, doe not last even 4 hrs,
phone is less than two weeks old as well.

    • +3

Sounds like your phone is faulty. My battery life is absolutely incredible, regularly getting over 6 hours of screen on time, and I can easily go two days without charging. Location and all that stuff is turned on as well.

      • +3

Think more likely to be an app rather than a faulty phone. Battery life is excellent on my 2 XL

    • -8

Every lithium battery has to be conditioned before the first use.
The best way to do it is by keeping the phone on charge for at least 12 hours. 24 hours is the best. I don't know why they are not advise it with this phone. If the phone is starting to be used right from the box with the factory charge on the battery the longevity is compromised.
Not all is a bad news though.
You can still go for "refreshing" the battery.
Let it discharge down to as low as it is possible than keep it on charge for 24 hours. You'll notice immediate improvement.
Do this every two weeks for about 3 months. After that you can do this only once per month.

      • +1

Does anyone else have any knowledge or feedback that this is a good thing for lithium batteries? (episodic complete discharges than complete recharges).

I use to think that was what you should do, and that was how I treated my old laptop which lasted 8 years with a respectable battery life toward the end (2-3 hours).

But now I adhere to the rule of avoiding complete discharges or complete recharges, generally avoiding battery charge <20% and >80%, based on online articles I read. This also makes more sense to me when I think back to my high school chemistry days (electrolysis I think!).

        • +6

No the user is talking complete rubbish. The entire post is rubbish.

What you are doing is what increases longevity. What the post above is suggesting lowers the longevity of your battery.

      • +1

This is an outdated information and not valid anymore in modern Li-Ion batteries. In fact if you do this your battery will degrade quickly

    • Using GPS constantly is a great way to drain a battery fast, doesn't matter what smartphone you use. Plug it into a cigar lighter with an adapter instead of using it solo for pure travel use

    • I get 2 days out of mine, or a heavy usage day and a bit.
6 hours screen on time and around 11-12hrs usage.

Btw this is with Bluetooth, wifi, hotspot, GPS, NFC and probably other stuff also on and connected.

You can go into the battery settings and see what is sapping your battery?

    expensive ulgy phone

  • +1

Struggling to leave the incestuous Apple dependency. Had my eye on this one for a while.

    • +1

I moved on from the iPhone 6+, it wasn't too bad apart from a couple of apps I had to rebuy & also the annoyance of trying to find similar apps with the same functions. Migrating is super simple, comes with USB C>USB adapter, then you plug in apple charger into that and it imports all your contacts/photos!

Only real drama I've had is the subpar OLED screen with average-bad colour accuracy and meshes dark colours into blackness

      • I’ve done it before back in 2012. Problem I had was AirPlay at the time and a huge iTunes library. Tempting with Spotify now though and use of Bluetooth speakers. Could be cheap enough to justify until Apple steps up. Only saying this as I smashed my iPhone 6 on Tuesday. But it would kill my Apple Wach which I am dependent on.

        • If you are worried about hardware dependency you can completely buy into the android system watch and all for less than the ptice of the current iPhone so its not a problem.

Software and walled garden side of things, ok there may be some issues but thats why we hate Apple isnt it? It's like being in scientology.

        • @Jackson: Cannot argue. My job requires use of design tools 100% of the time so I am always using the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro so it’s a decision. Going to see if I can get the screen repaired. If not, I’ll jump in for shits and giggles.

  • +1

So expensive android flagships. What happened to the good old days that you can afford flagships at half the price of that? I recall $600 is the median price for flagships. It's getting ridiculous with that price might as well buy Apple? It's more than TV and high res monitors. So hyped

    • +2

I recall seeing a flagship $600 phone and thought it way too expensive.
So then I figured getting the previous gens flagship is much more economical.

      • E.g. Htc Ultra for 369 any day of the week on static ice

        • eeek. go for the xz premium instead

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod:
Got an LG V20 last year for 400. Seeing phones drop half their price within months doesn't make too much sense to buy on release.

    • Oneplus 5T

    • -3

Who knows. The thing is mid-range Android devices are capable of doing 90% of what flagships do and they cost $250 or less. I mean there really seems to be little point in moving to more powerful SoC unless you play games atm, it's become like the PC market.

If I ever pay a grand for a phone again it sure as hell won't be Android. The reason that Android exists is to feed data to Google in order that you lose money to third parties who pay Google for marketing so paying iphone prices for that experience seems a bit rich.

    • It's getting ridiculous with that price may as well buy Apple?

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe not everyone who can afford an iPhone wants one? I have changed from iOS to Android with the HTC One M8 and now I'm on the Pixel 2XL there's nowhere for me to slot back into the Apple ecosystem even if I wanted to.
Don't even get me started on how much of a disappointment the iPhone X was. A great phone with fundamental flaws like no fingerprint sensor and that hideous notch.. Also, why no buttons?? It would actually drive me insane.

      • +1

Yeah I know that I was like that before. However a lot of brands starting to lock their bootloader which means you cannot root without voiding warranty. I used Android since 2006 when HTC desire was the go to device.

Because of this it has ruin a lot of fun. Hence they are putting the price up.

So it doesn't justify at all

  • +1

Does this still come with the google home mini and the aiaiai headphones?

    • It will come with the Google Home Mini I assume, and obviously no plan.

  • Ffxv pe runs nicely on this phone

  • +1

They should never have been more than $999.

  • nice headphone jack

  • -2

I saw this on Facebook marketplace for $900 (used 3 months) in mint condition with case and screen protector. Plus the seller had receipt for $1500 from JB Hi-fi. Claim on tax and you could be looking at a $500 pixel 2 xl 128gb.

    • The receipt would be more than 2 months dated, don't think you would be able to claim back GST.

      • +1

Doesn't matter if it's 2 months or 6 months. As long as it's still within that financial year you are claiming for. Even if it was bought in July 2017, come July 2018, you can claim that receipt given that it's a work expense in FY17-18.
I think you are referring to TRS. yeah you can't do that because it's passed the 2 month mark.

    • can you explain how you brought it down to 500?

      • -2

Pay cash for the phone @ $900.
        Receipt shows $1,500
Claim 100% as work expense (that's what I do anyways and I say it's purely a BYO work phone where they provide the sim and you use your own phone)
If you're in 37% tax bracket (which I am), you get 37% back on the $1500 which is $555.
So you paid $900 and tax time you get $555 therefore phone costing you $345.

        • +1

Haha I gotta speak to my accountant

  • -1

This phone is not worth this price.
The screen is like 2014 Samsung amoled level..
    Big bezel.
The CPU is 2017 snapdragon 835.
Camera is not the best according to dxo mark.
Even you really like pixel camera, you can install ported pixel camera app to get similar result on other phones.

    • And no 3.5mm headphone jack.

    • Big bezel.

Lol what are you on? Did you even look at the picture?

The CPU is 2017 snapdragon 835.

I wonder why that is. Oh, maybe because it was released in 2017.

Even you really like pixel camera, you can install ported pixel camera app to get similar result on other phones.

      Still doesn't change the hardware.

The phone is a lot to pay (if you were going to get the phone, you'd seriously consider the Telstra plan) but you get a lot for your money.
Personally I don't know how the screen compares to others, but it is more than good enough for me and everyone I might show something on it to.
I'm not fussed if the camera isn't the best, but it's a damn good camera so that is enough for me to give it a tick.

I use Bluetooth headphones almost always for music but it's not a massive deal just to keep the dongle on the earphones - that's what I do if ever I need to use them. It's not like you can't even listen to music.

Funny how Apple can charge this much and no one bats an eyelid.

  • +2

still going strong on my lg g6 for $500
    $500 is my threshold

    • i always look for faulty phones on gumtree. look up the imei and if it's under warranty, send it off and get it a brand new one. flagship samsung/google/sony for less than 300

      • Sure mate

    • The G6 takes photos worse than my G4 including selfie

Therefore even if it bootloops I still keep

  • -1

Trying to decide between Pixel 2, Xiaomi Mi MIX2S and OnePlus 5T. Thoughts?

  • does this come with google home mini???

  • -4

Why would anyone want this over the Telstra family and friends deal @$59

    • People with shit credit ratings maybe?

    • Possibly because they are already under contract?
Or possibly as they want a Pixel 2 XL?

    • Because I've already got a Telstra number. A lot of people don't met the port-in eligibility.

  • Any expiry date for this offer?

    • +1

      Likely after Easter

  • +1

anyone know if the manufacture date of pixel xl 2 in jb hifi is quiet recent?
