Audio Technica ATH-AD700 $149 Free Shipping @ HeadPhones.com.au

70

http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=178

I officially bought the last of these off headsonic (:D), but as I found out a few minutes ago, headphones.com.au/headphonic very recently lowered their price from its previous (and far too high) $199.

As I am still waiting for my pair to arrive, I can't personally comment on their sound quality, sound stage, and so forth, but I can tell you to look them up on OCAU or google. They're supposed to be great. I'll comment again once I have them and then a second time when I get my dedicated sound card.

As from Headphonic:
"""

Description

The AD700 is a fantastic sounding headphone for the price.
Combining responsive bass with smooth midrange and detailed upper end this headphone has an exciting sound without being harsh.
The comfort of this model is hard to beat, they're lightweight and their "3D Wing" headband design means there is minimal pressure on your head making these headphones a fantastic allrounder!

A full review for this product can be found in our forums here!

Please note: this product only comes in ONE colour selection. If your monitor doesn't display colours correctly, it may look like there are different versions, but the AD700 ONLY comes in a gold/purple colour scheme.

If anyone ordering anything from PCCG they also stock these for 149$, but no free shipping.

    • +3

Also the ones from pccg are grey imports apparently. Well that's what knocked and headphonics have said from their Australian suppliers.

      • +3

I don't know why you got negged, because that's correct, they are just grey imports. (the ones from PCCG) As far as I know (because an hour or 2 of looking on WP, OCAU and google got me nowhere) they come with a 1 or 2 year warranty from PCCG, but since they're outside the US they aren't covered by the manufacturer.

  • Wonder if it's a clearout for new models cause this design is really old.

    • Correct me if I'm wrong (I haven't paid much attention to the headphone market in a while), but AT's lower-end and portable headphones seem to get a lot more attention than the higher end and/or open models, which is totally understandable. The AD700 seems to sell well, and I don't really see it being phased out. Then again, you could be right if AT wants to refresh their line-up.

btw, I was quite disappointed by the AT store in Westfield. For some reason, I was expecting an actual store, not a stall. Guess it's good for testing isolation lol

      • Do they sell anything out there?

It's because AT are know for their bang for buck, those who spend in the thousands for headphones have better options out there for their cash. Meanwhile AT have struck a balance between style, sound, comfort and cost in the lower end of town <$250.

        • I only took a brief look, but from what I remember, they were mainly selling their portable range - M50, SQ5, ES7, Pro700(?) etc and ear buds and canalphones. There were also a few seats where you could sit and test the headphones.

The prices were generally more expensive, e.g. I think ES7 was $200 or so.

        • Yeah poped in there today.
          Prices are a rip, AD700 for $249 and ES7 for $199, Pro700s were $299.
If you're thinking that it's a nice place to test some of the headphones, it most definately isn't.
          1. The headphones IMO are ruined already from all the manhandling and LOUD and I mean LOUD volumes that the kids listen to.
          2. It's NOISY you won't be able to get good isolation and quietness to test them properly.
          3. There's always kids in their teens manhandling them.

        • Yes, the prices on stuff usually suck :/. Which is why I usually look elsewhere for my stuff.

    • Doesn't look like AD700 is getting an update. It's the AD900/A900/W1000X will be the ones that's getting updated.

A quick google search finds this:
      http://news.softpedia.com/news/Audio-Technica-To-Launch-Thre…

      • That probably means the AD700 will get an update as well if not a few months later definately at the most a year later. I think the AD700s have been around for 4 years and that's a LONG time for the one design to stick aroundd in the audio world.

    • trance dance, do you have or know any good (about aud100-sih) headphone for trance music??(hardstyle not techno)

      • Sorry mate, haven't been paying much attention in the audio world now that I've hit HSC. Only been keeping an eye on the AD700 and AD900.

these are really good headphones, the crowd at whirlpool can't say enough good things about them. I picked one up on ebay for this price but got $50 cashback from paypal making it $100. It's not a BAD price, but I certainly wouldn't call it a bargain…

    • any chance of a linky? :)
(what's this cashback you're talking about btw?)

edit 2: do you mean this one (expired a while back)

can't find the exact seller, but this has warranty, they pay shipping BOTH ways, and are apparently selling at a loss because they're in a price war… all up though $30 cheaper than the link and has very good feedback…

oh and yes, that was the promotion, good detective work!

        • Looked at those a while back, but then the Headsonic deal came up and although it was $155, I really liked him for some reason, so I went with him :D

          Thanks btw

About time they brought their prices in line with other stores.

    • What other stores that stock Australian distributed stock with Australian warranty have been selling for $150 delivered? Please let me know.

  • you're better off ordering a pair from amazon. they work out a lot cheaper.
most people on whirlpool got theirs for 120 or lower including postage.

There's no warranty if you do that.
Just thought I'd pop that out there for people to consider.

      • Do you have the link that it states that there is no warranty via the purchase on Amazon?

btw, I don't think this is a bargain - it's cheaper elsewhere and please don't give me this bs on buying from Australia etc…

        • +1

All I know is that Audio Technica products are covered by warranty in the country that the sale was made.
Google audio technica warranty and it'll come up with the warranty terms for various countries.
As for the warranty being void, it's been discussed here before on another thread, just can't damn find it atm, also was told by minidisc that this was the case or would most likely be the case.

And I'm not gonna give you anything about buying from Australia, if the price is significantly lower to buy overseas I wouldn't give a toss about warranty. I was merely stating it so others could decide for themselves with full knowledge of what they're getting before they make the plunge.

        • According to my research on the topic (what I was doing before I bought from Headsonic) if you buy it from Amazon, then AMAZON provides their standard warranty on the product, but there is no MANUFACTURER warranty, so you're not as "comprehensively" covered. Plus you're sending your headphones back over to the US. Buying from here means you get LOCAL warranty. Which is a big plus and worth paying a little extra for imo.

(caps for emphasis, not anger :P)

  • What's so amazing about this price? I have looked over whirlpool and several have said this seller sells genuine products with Australian warranty (To my knowledge it's international warranty).

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-Audio-Technica-ATH-AD700-HEADPHON…

    • According to Minidisc the warranty on products bought overseas will not be honoured in Australia and most likely would be void anyway (same goes for most electronic devices).

And if you read carefully the warranty is only 3 months and most likely provided by the seller. All AT products come with a minimum one year limited warranty in the country in which it was sold.

      • That warranty is offered by the seller, but after reading a few posts on whirlpool, it has been confirmed that it has manufacturer warranty. Maybe I'm wrong about audio technica but Koss headphones which were sold by the same seller were able to be fixed by the official Australian Koss supplier.

I'm not saying it's a bad deal, for an official Australian verified product, it's quite a decent price, but I personally wouldn't be amazed about it.

        • Meh, I think for one with good local warranty its good, but each to his own I suppose.

Quite sure, that the whole warranty thing is just AT being strict, other manufacturers (such as Koss I suppose) offer warranty anyway.

But as has already been said, it's your call as to whether you think $15 or so is too much to pay for warranty on these. I almost bought from that ebay seller and I'm quite confidant that you'd get a good deal from them, but I personally like having confidence that when things go wrong then I'm covered :)

        • I know, I know, I'm just brainstorming here ;)

Tis all well and good to let ppl know more rather than less :D

  • For anyone interested I've had them mine for a few days now so they should be at least partially burnt in. They sound fuller than any of the other headphones/earphones/speakers in my house, but I can hear them crying out for a better source :/. I'll report back once I get my sound card for anyone interested.

  • +1

Price is the same at Minidisc.com.au for those in Sydney and want to pick up. Or use the 3% cashback from moneybackco.

  • Looks like it'll be a lot longer than I would've liked before I get my soundcard… so I won't be able to report back on that any time soon :(
