  • I have the G5s plus XT1805 and it has 4 gig RAM some models have 3 gig RAM. I couldn't find how much RAM this one has?

    $303 inc shipping at eglobal

  • Bought a G3 for my wife and it was a horrible experience. Speaker is only connected by spring contacts internal to the phone, so started cutting out. Apparently a common problem with at least G2, G3 and G4. Had it sent off twice to get this fixed and it happened again. 3rd time it was out of warranty and not worth the effort of fighting it or attempting a repair at home (There was a Youtube video). Giving Motorolla wide birth.

I've had the G4 Plus for over a year, not a single issue. Just purchased a G5 Plus to replace it. Would have bought the G5S Plus but it doesn't have a separate SD card slot.

      • Glad you didn't have issues. That phone was a nightmare. Bought an S7 for my wife in the end.

      • I've owned the g4, constantly overheats, freezes then resets itself.

    • I've had the g5s plus since January and I love it - absolutely no problems with the speaker or anything else!

I've had the G4plus and G5plus. My wife inherited my old G4plus. Both phones are still going strong.
Due to my work, my phones take a real beating and don't usually last more than a year. These both have.
I highly recommend these motorola phones. For the price they are brilliant.

      • Owned a G3 then G4 , Wife now has a G5s+ . Great phones . Looking forward to the imminent release of the G6 but have no reason way to justify a new phone as the G4 is still going great despite being almost 2 years old .

        • +1

Good to hear. The G4+ is on the list of models to get the Oreo update too, hopefully they will carry this out.

Probably the G4+ will be the last phone of the G range to get two major software updates according to what I read so far.

          @ozhunter68:
I've pretty much given up on updates . The G4 last had a security update (Android 7.0) 7th Dec 2017 which is pretty much 18 months after it's initial release and I have read that that is it . The G4+ Oreo update has been promised for a very long time , I wouldn't hold me breath . Lenovo used to be awesome for updates but since their chinese takeover they have progressively got worse and worse .
I definitely would not buy a Motorola for the promise of updates .

        • +1

yeah, the oreo update was an error that was announced as that would make 3 updates, so lenovo decided they will honour the announcement, was to be May 2018 i recall for general release.

update = new version of android
patch = fix for a version of android.

        • @troyww:

          Agree with your above comments.

The G 4 is a lower priced model, so could get less major updates than the + variant, but to get 2 years of regular security updates for this phone should be a must in my view, as many people would have paid regular price of around $300 or more.

In saying that, the G5+ is still on Nougat with security update 1st Jan 2018, so not much better. But this will get the Oreo update,….eventually lol.

From what I have read, Motorola was never planning to update the G4+ to Oreo, but because so many people contacted and asked Motorola for this they felt they had to, but,….eventually and most likely last of their models range to get it.

        • @ozhunter68: System updates are to the kernel which is less affected by security issues. Apps are updated separately and quite often, though most of those updates are functionality updates.

        • @troyww:
Excuse my ignorance, but what is so important about updates? Is it a security issue?

        • @troyww:

The G5s plus currently has android 7.1.1 with January security update.

Having said that, it's easily unlocked and rooted to install a custom ROM with Android 8.1 and April security update. There are several that are quite up to date. The only hassle is the camera, but there are various modded versions of the Google camera app and the Moto camera app that fix that problem.

    • we have. g4 plus, it hasn’t missed a beat, moto are good phones for the money and have all the bands.

  • So would OW offer their 5% price beater which would make it $307.80?

    • +1

Nope, it's the same price so you can't get the price beat, natch.

  • TLDR - good phones. I've got the 16gb g5 plus - ~220 in a good guys ebay 20% off deal. Put a 128gb samsung evo plus in it ($~37 in another ebay sale). The g5 phones have a good array of network bands for 3g and 4g - i've been sim slutitng around the last few months with 15gb of data for $5-10 a month! (optus $40 sim for $10 - 8gb bonus data to 15gb, lebara $30 sim for $5 - 8gb bonus data to 15gb, today i'm porting to kogan 23gb plan for $0, next month i'm going back to lebara just before the 15gb data offer ends on another $30 sim for $5).

TL;DR, then followed by long slut tale. 😉

Grab it off TGG or Officeworks eBay for $307.80 with one of the 5% off eBay codes

    OW link
    TGG link

    • Thanks, Brought price down to $307.80 ; )

    • Would this price work with the price matching at my local OW if I wanted to buy it tomorrow? Sry, not sure how their price matching works lol

Edit: Would they also match with my post below on Kogan's price at $309 as well?

  • My wife and son both have different variants of the G5 and both are very happy with them. I've just ordered one to replace my 4 year old Sony Z2 (which still works okay but is full of Sony bloatware stuffed into 16Gb) :)

So the G5splus is dual sim but has no sd card slot but the G5plus does. Have I got that right?
Currently have G4plus and would love to keep it but the camera has moisture in it(I think) and takes foggy pics.

I need a good camera for my work and the sd slot affords a lot of extra storage.

    • +1

Correct about the above dual sim set up. Has pretty decent camera and going on some youtube water testing, resists some moisture too. Get one whilst you still can.

    • +2

G5S+ has hybrid sim slot.So can use second sim slot for a sim card OR mSD card. So can use 2x sim OR 1x sim and 1x mSD. So a total of two slots.

The G5+ has 3 slots total. 2x sim and x mSD.

Edit: If you want to sell me your faulty G4+ on the cheap, I can use it for parts to fix my G4+ so I have a spare ;)

Name your price and it's yours.

        *Thanks for the advice too.
