DeLonghi Nespresso Vertuo Plus Coffee Machine (Black) $199 ($99 after Cashback) @ JB Hi-Fi

150

I picked one up today. I saw a similar deal on eBay couple weeks ago on here but that sold out. The $199 is also a sale price and $244-$260 everywhere else I could find (Good Guys, Harvey etc). Just note this uses their new different pods which now come in different sizes so good if you're into long blacks etc.

  • Good price.

Are the new pods noticeably better, or just a reaction to their patents on the old ones expiring?

    • You can't fix the coffee inside those pods unfortunately. That is why I can only drink third party stuff now.

EDIT: I also wonder after reading the description if the normal nespresso coffee pods actually fit this machine?

The Vertuo line is a new line of capsule system. It has a bigger pod for a bigger cup of coffee, its about 10 %more expensive for a 30% increase in shot size. The existing pods are not compatible.

    • I did get a chance to sample it in-store. The style of coffee you get from this one is different. It's closer to an Americano style coffee instead of the usual espresso style coffee you get from the normal Nespresso machine. Also, there's a more coffee in each serve. And I was told there was more than double the amount of caffeine in the Vertuo pods than the regular pods. You will notice that the Vertuo coffee machines don't come with an Aerocinno milk frother bundled (at least not currently). They explain that this is intentional?

Personally, I prefer the normal ones but everyone's different. I recommend that you try it out in-store before making a purchase.

      • you get the aerocinno overseas in a pack in USA, Canada etc.

being locked in to a brand is not worth any amount of money honestly.

These machines are SOOOO much quieter than the standard pod machines, as they dont rely on high pressure water being pumped through the capsule.

Instead, the coffee pods spin at high speed (up to 7,000 RPM) so make a quiet whooshing sound, instead of the BBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRR sound of the standard bar pressure coffee machines.

Damn for $99 Im tempted… even though I only bought a new machine about 6 months ago (using the old pods).
I have a couple of Nespresso milk frothers (that I rarely use as I mostly drink long blacks), so not worried if this doesnt come with one.

I do 2 long cycles from a single small pod (which you are not supposed to do) so these new machines with the larger pods are designed for my long-black preferred coffees.

  • Delonghi - give us a $99 grinder yo

  • Can this be used to make a cappuccino or latte? I noticed it doesn't come with a milk frother. Would adding warm milk to the cup before extraction work well?

    • +1

      Buy a separate milk frother.

Adding warm milk (before or after) would make it similar to a flat white.
Frother required if you prefer a cappuccino style.

      • Thanks. I can deal with flat white. Picked one up today to give it a go. Box has 12 sample pods inside (various different ones). The checkout guy also threw in 2 types of pods for free (20 in total). I'll report back after I've tried the machine. Btw bought from Myer and they price matched JB

I used it for the first time this morning but only went the espresso and the coffee did taste better than my previous Nespresso using the older pods. Machine in person looks significantly higher class than all the others but it is much bigger also. Usually I have 500ml coffees so I'm excited to see how one of their grande pods tastes compared to needing to use 3 different older pods. This new one is good for me in particular because I don't drink milk and into blacks also.

For those who even add milk, try adding butter and cream instead. Just sayin.

    • Butter and cream? Butter would just taste gross. Just sayin.

      • You don't know to you have tried (which I haven't).

Personally I prefer vanilla ice cream in my morning coffee every day.

I've never eaten my own poo before and I'm pretty sure it would also taste gross.

          @serpserpserp:
          True.
          But that's not a good example/comparison.

Most people eat butter regularly. They don't eat poo.

And there are plenty of popular recipies for adding butter to hot drinks - eg for ketosis diets.
          I think it's called Keto-coffee.

I'm not keen on adding butter to my coffee - but im not bagging it either as I haven't tried it.

Update: Got the machine setup. Used a mug capsule first round. Didn't really like the taste. Was too strong yet watery. Will try again tomorrow morning with an expresso vertuo pod as I'm used to 40ml coffee plus milk. Note to everyone buying this. Check the best before date on the 12 welcome pods that come included. Mine was best before 31 March 2018. I will be talking to Nespresso or Myer about having the pods replaced.

Regarding the machine itself. Water compartment is huge. Very easy to put together. Took a matter of minutes. Don't forget to follow the instructions and do the cleaning process. That took 5 minutes all up. No leakage issues so far. Machine is very quiet when brewing in comparison to the older Nespresso machines. Fun to watch.

I was told by the Myer salesman that there was no difference taste wise or function wise between this Vertuo machine and the one made by Breville (they apparently only differ in look and are the same price).

Will report again tomorrow. Any questions let me know and I'll try my best to answer them.

Looks like it’s now $249 via the link

    • Dammit, was going to buy this today, using a $200 JB voucher I have (so free machine plus $100 cashback).

Wonder if a sales rep would honour yesterdays price.

  • My mum is after a machine that takes "environmentally friendly" pods, does this one?
