why would you buy an ipad now anyway.. new one coming sometime between jan-march.

      • +2

Exactly, iPads should be 30% off as they are going to be worth very little when the new ones come out.

        • and hopefully if the AUD keeps its strength we'll see the newer iPads introduced with a lower entry price.

10% discount on Mac is ordinary. If they had realesed this yesterday it would have been extraordinary with 10% discount + 15% paypal cashback. Not sure why they didn't do that ?!? Big opportunity missed IMO.

    • +1

Of course they won't do that otherwise how can they keep continue to attract the attention of consumers lol

Besides, just correct one of your mistake .. even they did so ,,, you wont get 15% paypal as the maximum is $100 per account.. which means around extra 5% discount for 27 inch Mac.

      • -1

dunno about others but they can only attract my attention by giving more than 10% discount on mac not by giving everybody else is giving. they could have done that with paypal deal (additional $100 off).

Wow, 15% off 27inch + 5% discount if Woolworths employee, that would put the 27 inch at about $1700 (rrp $2049), massive bargain if you ask me.

you have to be nuts to buy now since sandy bridge is coming out in 4 days.

In AppleLand, Intel improvements come across a year after it hits the PC world. Ask anyone who waited for the i5-i7s to appear in the MacBook Pros!

      • true for some products, but the 27" iMac and MBP or MB has been out for a while now, unlike the MBA which are quite new(last updated), we have seen the 4 and 5 Series GFx from nvidia the new macs will come Q1 2011, I will bet my life on it.

        some timeline on product updates.

        • thanks for the sandy bridge reminder and the macrumors site, i'm waiting to get that macbook pro

  • picked up the 27inch i5 from David jones for $2039.15 on 48 months interest free. Spreads the cost out a bit. Despite the new models coming soon, the i5 will do me for the next couple of years.

  • Will Myer or DJ pricematch this?

Ozbargain here: get Myer to pricematch, use the giftcards you've accumulated in the recent myer promotion to get another roughly 10% off. Almost a 20% off total discount, almost unheard of for apple products.

  • Speaking as an Apple fan and macbook pro owner, it is a shame that there is such a massive price disparity between similarly specced PC and Apple laptops. Where I can get an i5 for less than $700 in PC land, an i5 macbook pro is more than 1800. I realise there is a massive build quality difference, but it would be nice if that quality cost 2-300 more rather than 2-3 times more.

    • There's more to a computer then just hardware

      • the price disparity is due to Apple's price structuring and profit margin. They need to make more profit per unit because compared to other laptop manufacturers they have a much smaller market share. The other reason is that they need to maintain a fairly high build quality for their laptops.

Also, if they lowered the price, it would be nigh impossible to raise the price back up.

This article discusses why price drops are not advantageous for apple.

        • very interesting article. it's simple and makes a lot of sense, but is so easily overlooked!

        • You are wrong. They are one of the biggest, 5 or 6 in the world, 4 biggest in the USA and Europe. They sell exepnsive computers (like IBM, Sony), not cheap ones (like Dell, HP, Acer, Toshiba).

Their laptops are a lot higher quality builds, and only game players care about CPU these days, and they run windows.

Price rarely has anything to do with costs, it is to do with demand. They charge what people will pay, and go after the high end market. They are good value compared to high end manufacturers, they do not sell cheap computers.

    • The CPU is an important but just one component of the system. Look also at say the screens, weight, form factors etc. Mind you, it's still rather pricey, but when it comes to laptops, Apple's growing market share supports that more people are keen to buy quality. This was not always the same for desktops where most people just looked at the keyboard, mouse and monitor, with the bulk of the computer hidden away somewhere else.

      • The one year warranty really puts me off. To me it says the manufacturer doesn't believe their products will last.

Wow, the RRP of iMac 27' i5 drop $200, I remember 2 months ago, when it's 15% off, I still spend $2200. It's another $160 cheaper, why you guys still waiting?
