  • That just leads to a page saying 55" 4K TV Today Show Offer but with no offer even on it. And the link from it only leads to deals for the 43" and 50". No 55" on it.

Edit: some body since updated the post with the correct link. Thanks.

    • If using Adblock, it prevents the banner from being shown.

Also note: this TV does not have Chromecast — Kogan was shipping this TV several weeks ago with a bonus Chromecast at a lower price.

      • No ad blocker being used here.

      • For me that shows no ability to even buy the TV from that link. It's not on there.

        • Works for me

        • +2

Seems to be browser related then. It does not show in Firefox (Cyberfox), but works in Chrome or Edge.

        • @scrimshaw:

Oh yeah dammit it doesn't work in Firefox but is working in Edge. Browser related to Firefox for sure.

I would personally wait for their new set of TVs which come with HDR, Freeview Plus and a Smart OS installed:

Nice TV but that remote looks ugly A.F.

      • +30

Ugly but functional. You use the remote to change channels, you're not dating it.

      • +3

        your avatar is ugly A.F.

      • The remote you've linked, I actually don't mind haha, but I don't think that's the remote that comes with this tv

        https://assets.kogan.com/files/usermanuals/KALED55KU8000UB-A…

        • Really?, I don't like the brown

The remote is for the TV JD6750 mentioned here

It's a new model due to be released on 15th of May.

        • +1

Ahh my bad! Didn't read through it all :)

That new tv does look way better! Sounds like a no brainer to wait for.

        • Yeah I like it too and I can always get a universal remote :P

    • Looks good. Any idea when this would be on sale?

    • +2

Saw this deal a few weeks back but never bothered to post. As its just a low end TV and missing alot of features that make it true UHD 4k and not just a TV that can display 4k resolution. So you waon't get the full 4k experience with this TV. Especially without HDR/HDR-10, Game mode etc. Plus it only has one tuner so your either recording or watching the same channel. No record one channel whilst watching another.

Also correct about Firefox not displaying the like correctly. Edge works correctly.

    • With an Innolux 120Hz panel? Why?

      • is innolux that bad?

        • Generally referred to as a third tier panel, which is not great when the TV nudges the 2nd tier price range.

Likely a VA LCD panel too, so consider the difference between that and IPS when deciding.

Come on guys it has a 5 Star Canstar review !!!!!!

      the best money can buy.

  • How do we know if this would be any good for games without knowing response time? Does it have a gaming mode?

There's an Agora Smart TV version for $30 more but no free shipping and one less HDMI.

    • +1

I have the curved 4K that was under 509 few months back. Tried xbox one s on it. Looks very decent

      • +3

Looks decent isn’t the same thing as response time. What’s the response time like?

        • +2

If you actually care about response time, picture quality etc you need to ask someone whose opinion you trust or see for yourself. A mate of mine has a 4K Kogan, he reckons it’s great meanwhile I find the gaming abilities and color reproduction to be terrible. Most of the population seem to have no eye for quality when it comes to TVs and just blindly following marketing speak about 4K and 200hz and blah blah. The specs can help but even they don’t always tell the whole story.

        • Sorry I couldn’t tell you that. I just looked at my kids playing it, I didn’t pay that much attention to response time

    • +1

the response time is right there under specifications, jebus

its 6ms which is good enough for gaming

    standard comment-

buy a $50 off $120 purchase from ozb classifieds for ~$10.
create a new kogan account (via referral) for $10 credit (offset voucher cost)

    TV = $469 delivered

    • & discounted kogan giftcards too :)

    • Thanks for the heads up, just managed to get the TV for $449 delivered with the above method! I also had a $20 "haven't seen you in a while" code so the total discount was $70.

  • +1

Would be great to know how many generations old the panels are if they are indeed samsung branded.

    • Would be good to compare to the much hyped HiSense N7. Anyone know what would be the notable differences?

    • +3

Samsung branded means jack. All panel manufacturers grade their panels. Highest QA goes into premium models, lower QA into their standard ones and the rest they sell off to third party manufacturers of cheap TVs. They do sell high grade ones, but this isn’t one of them.

Every Kogan TV I’ve seen has had bad panels with pretty apparent bleeding and other issues. You get what you pay for.

  • Not sure if the Agora version has the same panel (read elsewhere it may have been LG), but got that one for $499 on pre order deal in feb minus Kogan $50 voucher.. all up $449 for a fantastic netflix TV with zero LED bleed on the panel.

  • Good deal
    Good deal

Better deal if you use vouchers
Better deal if you use vouchers

    :)
    :)

  • Can you stack vouchers?
Can they call you 30 min before delivery?
How do they deliver if you are not home?
50" or 55"? Any difference other than size?

    BUYER BEWARE

I have one of these. And I'm almost at the point of paying someone to take it off my hands.

It takes about 20-30 seconds to turn on, always boots into this 'home' screen which is a reduced screen with apps around it. You click 'full screen' and it takes another 5-10 seconds to go full screen. Often the HDMI you are on will jump during this process. The remote sensor is under the TV, if you're at anything more than about 5 degrees above the base of the TV, the remote won't work (you can see it bottom right in the pictures, and it the side on view shows how it is set back about 15mm from the front lip, terrible design).

These aren't small 'user preference' issues, TVs have been turning on in <3 seconds for years, this is a 10 fold backtrack. Remotes typically work at 175 degree angles, this is a 100 fold backtrack.

    • PVR – pause, record and rewind live TV - I would almost argue that it doesn't actually have this feature, it's atrocious and I challenge anyone to demonstrate that they actually use it inline with what your average punter would expect from this feature. If you record shows, prepare for one long list of "my_kitchen_rules_tuesday_10_04_2018.avi" to scroll through.
    • almost all apps don't work, it seems to fail to play 60% of youtube clips, codec issue? who knows.

We get by using it as nothing more than a screen (use external PVR and chromecast for all viewing), and at >$500 for a screen that takes donkeys to turn on and is difficult to control, it's a rip.

    YMMV DYOR DONTBUYTHISPRODUCT ETC

    • Sounds even worse than the PoS that Aldi were flogging. My brother brought one of them and it is so painfully slow and the sound so awful that you really must buy an external PVR/Tuner and speakers to make it even acceptable. I don't get why they have to be so incredibly cheap ass on the such essential components, $10 extra in parts would allow a massive increase in quality.

    • i use a cheap chinese tablet as a home theatre pc so thats all im after, a decent panel

use to use an android box but that OS is too limiting

    • Are these issues the same with the 65” variant of this model?

    • So are you selling? I am looking for the cheapest half decent panel over 40" that can do 4k and gaming.

      Located in Katoomba NSW.

Will be only console gaming for now and some old school retro pc gaming (think everything before 2005)

      • I would yup, but I'm in WA so not worth it for either of us sorry mate.

  • maybe it's time to finally upgrade the 1080p benq projector

    hmmmmmmmmm

    • To a 4k LED projector!

      • i am not sure led projectors are any good, maybe the tech has improved since i last looked, lamps are usually around $60 and last 3-6k hours plus if its is DLP projector a new lamp = same image as new

at any rate i can't see myself giving up a +120" screen for a 55" lcd so no upgrade for me yet, wouldn't mind a 4k projector but they have to come down to 1k before i'd be interested

  • Only a one year warranty is ridiculous for a 55" TV and most likely breaches ACL. Expected lifetime of a TV should be at least 3 years…

    • I would like to say 5 years. The statutory guarantees and their attendant remedies override to the extent of inconsistency any terms of a consumer contract, but outside the warranty period the more ethically challenged companies do tend to pretend that the ACL doesn't exist.

Looks like Kogan managed to get their hands on B grade LG panels and whack them in to a budget frame with shitty processing and software and flog this on morning tv. Target market probably unemployed Centrelink bludgers who tune in to channel 9 infotainment.

  • Deciding between this or a JVC 55" 4k tv for about the same price maybe slightly more.. hmm
