But does it use BOM data?

  • +31

    No BOM data.

Installed, correctly found my location. Told me the current temp was 18°C when the local BOM station (airport) was 15.1

Also, portrait mode only, Wind direction written out in full (north north west rather than NNW), photo background which can't be removed, no actual rain radar (some sort of weather radar that offers a rain option but isn't using Australian radar data), …

    Uninstalled.

My favorite weather apps are the old Weatherzone plus, Willie weather, weather underground for local stations and flowx.

Flowx is particularly good for graphical presentations of forecasts. Takes a bit of getting used to the options but I think it's brilliant. (No association, just love the app)

    • thanks for the review

    • And another thumbs up for the review and for Flowx.
Love the graph and the widget, far better than the Weather Underground version that has been my reluctant default position.
Never found Weather Underground's numbers to be convincing, but it was the only app I could find with a graphing widget, so I've put up with it for ages

    • thanks. skip this then.

Damn do I miss the old Weatherzone Plus. Put up with the new one for a couple of weeks before uninstalling, they ruined a great app.

Currently using Pocket Weather which is also very good.

    • @imathew and anybody else looking for it - if you ever installed weatherzone plus you can reinstall it. It's still in the playstore, just not visible to search.

Go to my apps and games / library. That's where I found it on my last rebuild.

      • Thanks, unfort I had it on iOS, and I bought my Android phone after they took it down.

doesnt' seem better than the weatherzone app which is free and uses BOM data

Don't forget that the BOM has an official app too:

    http://www.bom.gov.au/app/

Still no widgets which is a bit meh. Works well though, and certainly has BOM data!

I prefer Pocket Weather (from Pocket Casts developer ShiftyJelly). Aussie developed and uses BOM data.

    • I've been using it for years too! Though I don't think I've seen it updated on that time either…

      • It's been updated a number of times. I actually preferred the original iOS app - much nicer design. But then they had to go and "materialize" it (if that's a word). At least it's gotten better that the first material design release, and the data is all there - you just have to scroll to get to it, where it used to be all up front and centre.

With the BOM app, Pocket Weather and Weatherzone out there, junk like this that doesn't use BOM data is pointless, no matter how much crap it spews about "Weather forecast is excellent."

  • m.bom.gov.au - lightning fast, make it your home page on an alternate browser eg Opera. Or pin to start with ye olde dinosaur W10M.

Best one I've used so far is Willie Weather

    • Excellent. Thanks. That's a great weather app
