  • Good price. But I not need 2TB!

      • +10

        I need it!

        • -8

          Nope.

        • +4

@StoneSin: Why not? If I have 2TB worth of data frequently being read/write. Or perhaps in my servers?

        • -8

          @Clear: You don't.

        • +5

@StoneSin: Yeah you're right. Why have SAS drives when you can have PCIe NVMe SSDs.

        • +5

          @StoneSin:

Here we (profanity) go again. Already used 2/5 of my neg votes.

        • +4

          @StoneSin:

Says a lot about you when the majority of your comments have more -ve than +ve votes.

        • +4

@StoneSin: Thanks for your support. 3TB SSDs coming right up. xoxo <3

        • -2

@Clear: It's okay. I already explained your kind of behaviour below in this deal. I understand the bad decisions that follow.

        • @StoneSin: Expensive garbage? $400 isn't big money.

        • -1

@Clear: When did I say $400 was big money?

        • +2

@StoneSin: Where did I say that you said $400 is big money?

        • Is there a stat for most neg voted user??

Think i know who holds that crown

        • -1

@Clear: So why are you referencing it?

        • -1

@Godric: I hope that's me. The more votes I have in any form show that I'm correct.

      • +2

I need it to store my favourite HD porn collection. It's to precious to risk storing it on HDD.

    • Me neither - aready have one. Still ordered…

    • man that went quick …… :-( I have the crucial 1TB and need more room

Lazy enthusiasts/gamers with a lot of money and no time to delete the games they have no time to play

    • +2

Someone with a couple of security cameras could do it. Especially if using a NVR with limited space inside. Even a drive this size would only hold 3 days worth of footage from 10 HD cameras running nonstop.

One advantage ssd's have over mechanical hard drives, apart from speed, power use and heat, is that they can do combined read/writes much better. So with this, you could be watching several live camera streams while simultaneously writing all streams to disk.

Anyone whose ever tried to copy files from a portable hdd while watching a movie at the same time knows how painful this is to do on a mechanical disk

      • -6

Nope. They would go with HDD.

        • You probably have a 60GB SSD + HDD setup and have the need to think other people are wrong to make you feel better. A lot of people have legacy type setup. They still work, but if we were to replace them today, we wouldn't do the same.

Honestly, I sure hope that for PC world, with all these large SSDs being more and more affordable, we get to go and tell Apple users that PC world still beat them as we can easily get way more SSD storage than Apple devices and a lot cheaper. Generally, I see Apple desktops/Laptops having less effective/speedy storage than PCs.

Frequently used files benefits a lot from SSDs. It is not just for system files. Also, this thinking of "SSD storage is so special" is outdated. We have experienced SSD speed for years now. HDD is considered slow storage or archive type storage. The smallest Apple Macbook Air storage is 128 GB SSD (HDD storage is not even an option). It will be very sad if PC users still rave about a small SSD for system and a hard drive is the way to go.

Non-tech general public are not impressed by SSD anymore. They have exposure to flash storage on mobile phones, tablets for years. If you see yourself as a tech savy person, surely you would advise a PC setup that can at least beat tablets with ease in every facet.

    • +1

Datacenters/Hosting Companies absolutely - and other companies you wouldn't expect. They're typically buying larger drives however - mostly 6.4TB or 7.6TB nvme flash. I'm sure they'll switch to 12.8TBs when they're available.

How does this compare with the 12TB Barracuda Pro. I am using that and not fussed with load times in games.

    • +3

Apart from being faster, smaller and less power hungry?

      • +1

And less likely to die and make you lose 12TB of data…

    • +13

It's an interesting demographic which currently runs a 12TB mechanical HDD and is considering splashing out $400 on a 2TB SSD but cannot tell you the difference between the two.

  • would it make much of a difference if chucked into a nas, or would it bottleneck somewhere making not much of a difference ?

    • How fast is your LAN? And what NAS are you using?

If it's just for caching you can do better with NVMe drives.

      • an old synology ds213air, all in gigabit lan, mostly has media files or one or two back ups (probably not worth the upgrade yet, i was just being curious)

        • +1

I don't think you will feel much improvement as the read/write will be limited by the processing power you have in your NAS. But if you are going to buy a bunch I would be interested in the results

        • I'm still waiting for them to be dirt cheap, i'm not really a techie sort of person

        • You're right. You need to be in 10GbE territory. Or if you have multiple computers/cameras writing/reading simultaneously it helps if your NAS and switch supports link aggregation. Else your modern mechanical drives can easily saturate your 1GbE link.

    • not a for a NAS, makes a great C: drive or for people downloading lost of torrents as there are no heads to park while torrents are downloading or are being served

  • Judging by the prices of the lower capacity drives, as well as the prices from other sellers, it looks like someone may have hit a 2 instead of a 3 :O

But if not, that's a ripper deal

  • Any one know how reliable this model is?

    • I have 3 of the smaller versions. I've had no dramas.

  • I need this asap

  • Definitely a price error by at least 100 pounds, but at least Amazon tends to apologize by sending you store credit.

    • Be a real pity. Think I've maintained a clean record ever since the Lenovo 'nolove' fiasco of 2013.

    • Considering the 750GB MX300 was sold by Amazon US for ~$130 18 months ago, this one isn't that crazy…. Could be clearing stock…

      I guess we'll find out.

    • I got a few of the 750GB Mx300 at $130 when they had the deal …. it was honoured ….. same as the Sandisk 1TB SSD at $250, it was honoured …..

  • maybe to replace PS4 HDD ??

    • The difference is pretty small. PS4 doesn't utilise SSDs to their full extent.

  • Slowdown after a while?
    Reliability?

    • -1

reliability is the same as other solid state devices …..

slowdown ….. just the usual windows bloated registery, reinstall and they always work like new.

  • thanks OP ordered one. looking forward to amazon store credit

  • Dead. Gone. Fixed.

  • Price error, this item has removed

    • Amazon quickly pulled the plug on that one.

  • Does someone got confirm Email?

    • I got an order confirmation email

    • Yeah i got mine.

      • -1

Amazon are good on this stuff … you will get a credit and apology or the drive …… depending on how many they sold, no reason they won't ask the seller to honour it.

And it it's the MX300, not the MX500, so might be a clearance .

if they sold 30 of these, they weer $100 out on each on, so $3000, what is your reputation worth ?

        • I'll get the drive or a refund.

        • yep, it’s low risk, you get drive or refund, you will now if it ships in a couple of days and amazon are quick on refunds if it doesn’t ship …. wish i knew about the deal before it expired.

  • Wow. Damn I missed it.

    • +1

      It's available again

  • They are still available pick 30 new on top and select amazon. It comes to AU$388

  • Still seems to work for me, got my confirmation email.

  • +2

Price back up to 439 pounds. Hopefully the discounted/error price gets honoured… I need my 2-3fps increase in GTA V.

    • is it can install in my laptop?

      • +1

ideal for laptop if lap top has sata connector ( excludes macbook air and some of the other select newer macbooksm) and most laptops only have space for 1 drive so you need to make the most of that physical space.

        • I have an Alienware R4, is it instead of the HDD space ?

  • +3

I can confirm that my order has been shipped.

    • Cool. I haven't received my shipping confirmation yet. Hopefully soon!

      • I got my shipping notification around 1am today. This deal is definitely honoured

  • Anyone got theirs yet? Mine coming tomorrow according to tracking

    • +1

Received yesterday. No signature required in my case (Amazon are weird that way - I've had a $30 pack of eneloops require a signature while a $700 hard disk is left unattended).

      • Got mine yesterday also. I was a bit worried that it was not going to be there when I got home given that it was left unattended all day..
