  • My first post, so go easy:) Thought it was a good price for decent all round i5. On site warranty is a drawback however for those who dont live in Melbourne.

    • Whats the drawback with the warranty? It would be national.

      • I was under the impression a 12 Months Onsite Pick Up & Return meant that u needed to deliver and pickup from the site. Meaning that, at the least, u would need to collect in person, provided you could post it in.

Nope it means they send a courier, usually DHL in Syd, to pick it up from your workplace. Then returned to the same place unless specified, once fixed at the service center

I can't understand why i5 computers wouldn't have dedicated graphics. I mean, they are already high profile, so you know is not marketed to your random Internet/MS Office user. I guess it's to be able to make them this cheap, but serious users usually are willing to pay a bit more to have a good machine.

Not everyone needs a dedicated graphics and the i5 intergrated is more then capable.

Look at the market - what percentage of market uses laptops for games and what percentage use it for word-processing, email, browsing?

My point is precisely that if you are that kind of user, you don't need an i5, you can do just as well with a Core Duo. For a savvy buyer, to buy an advanced processor computer without a graphic card is just asking for the machine to become obsolete twice as fast.

        • Complex and large spreadsheets? Coding work? Working with large databases? Just some uses for an i5 off the top of my head.

I think there are a lot of work where a fast processor is desirable that doesn't involve graphics work.

        • You've totally narrowed it down to two demographics and totally ignored the many others out there. You are so very off the mark, look at the amount of laptops with i5 and no intergrated cards, the maufacturers aren't stupid and making them for no market.

I need an i5 for Photoshop work, general HD video editing, and just the overall need for a faster processer, why resign myself to a Core 2 when I can get an i5? I dont play games on a laptop. So where does that leave me? An i5 with no need for deficated graphics!

        • Sorry, you're totally wrong. I am one of those ppl who needs fast CPU without a fancy GPU. In fact, I wish there is an i7 computer with an integrated graphic.

err, this doesn't seem to be a new or reduced price at all.

No HDMI as its the DM model

It also looks to be same as the Centercom one at http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?sort=2a… even though Centercom use the photo of the D model with metal wrest and HDMI to confuse.

I think I may get half a stiffy if it was $599, otherwise I'm back to sleep now.
