VACU VIN Stainless Steel Whiskey Stones, Set of 4 for $23.97 @ Myer (Was $39.95)

21

Chill whiskey while retaining its flavour.

These whiskey stones are small stones, which you can keep in your freezer, and put in your whiskey or other drinks instead of using ice. The biggest advantage to use whiskey stones, is to have your drink not diluted by the traditional ice cubes.

Composition: Stainless Steel
Care instructions: Dishwasher safe

i've tried whiskey stones, not worth imo collecting dust now

Whiskey stones don't dilute the drink with ice melt.. however they are no where near as good at keeping the drink cold either.

The reason ice cools so much better than stones is the transfer of energy (heat) from your drink during the ice state change from solid to liquid.

I bought some of these cubes from China for like $5. They were SS outside and filled with water inside. This allegedly avoids the problem of the low heat capacity of steel, i.e. does not keep the drink cold for long. I used them and felt they are great, being equal to ice in terms of cooling. Definitely better than the stones.

Not sure if this product has the water inside. This type of product definitely works with the right config. My 2cents.

        • Better hope they never leak…imagine what that 'water' actually is…you will feel like an old ex Russian spy (or his daughter)

Why Whiskey Stones, Balls And Rocks Will Never Be Better Than Ice

    https://m.huffingtonpost.com.au/entry/whiskey-stones-balls_n…

Yeah, no. Some things need to open up a little, but the amount of water required is far less than you'll get off an ice cube. The ice will ruin it.

Having said that, whisky stones are crap in terms of cooling ability

If you can't handle a full glass, pour half.

The stones just take up the room for coke with my whisky.

    I joke. I joke.

A recent study showed that a little bit of water made straight whiskey much more flavoursome.
Ice will add the water gradually, allowing the whiskey to release it’s true flavours.
Any sort of non-water ice cube is a complete waste of money! Mine went in the Bin!

    Junk product

  • ice has a greater cooling effect and that is what you are after or why bother,

  • +2

Crap for drinks. I use mine for green ant bites.

  • +4

why not just put whiskey in the fridge

    • +1

This. These rocks do little to change the temperature, if you don't like ice, put your spirits in the fridge or freezer

    • Agreed.

Aside from the fact it's heresy to chill good single malt, I'm with you on the science.

  • These things sink, rather than float like ice so drink isn't cooled as it flows over the ice whilst drinking.

    Tried them, didn't like them.
