[AMA] I am the CEO of DiviPay. Ask me anything!

Hi there,

My name is Daniel and I'm the CEO of DiviPay.

DiviPay lets you instantly create virtual cards that keep you in control of your money. DiviPay virtual cards are powered by Mastercard and can be used to protect yourself from online fraud, stop unwanted subscription fees and spend abroad without paying any transaction fees.

A lot of our users have originated from Illumination's post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/329572 so we thought it would be helpful to open up a direct line of communication with you all.

Also, if you're interested, Illumination interviewed us about some of the technical aspects of the business on his blog:

    • The banking/card issuing institution they are using is having issues at the moment

    • Hi, we have temporarily paused our service whilst we conduct a migration of our card issuing to a new partner. We expect this process to take 3 months. We are excited to announce that with this upgrade we will be able to deliver a product that is infinitely better than the last. Our new issuer will allow us to release a number of the features that have been regularly requested by our growing customer base including things such as mobile payments, real time transaction notifications and the guarantee that all payments will work all of the time. During our migration you can access your account, view old transactions and refund any money remaining on a card.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

  • Are people having any problems getting their balance refunded?

    • From the first email they sent out it says it can take up to 5 business days for the refund to be processed back to the cards the funds initially came from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/5877624/redir

    • I've pulled all my funds and received everything back within a week.

Wouldn't like to know what happens if they go bust. Would you be able to do a chargeback?

      • Wouldn't like to know what happens if they go bust. Would you be able to do a chargeback?

I'd like to think they would return all the money. But essentially they not covered by any government guarantee. So you would probably have to deal with your bank regarding a chargeback and it would be up to DiviPay's card issuing partner that is actually issuing the cards to resolve it most likely.

      • Hi, all funds are securely held with an Authorised Deposit Taking Institution. If anything were to happen to DiviPay all loaded funds would be returned in full to our customers. That said DiviPay isnt going anywhere, we are working hard to migrate our card issuing to a new partner and look forward to releasing a number of new features in the coming months.

        • 1: Hi, all funds are securely held with an Authorised Deposit Taking Institution.
2: If anything were to happen to DiviPay all loaded funds would be returned in full to our customers.

Warning: 1 does not necessarily mean 2. All that it may mean is that if the ADI goes under and only $250,000 was held in DiviPay's account with that ADI, all funds would be returned in full to DiviPay.

  • getting worried now…

  • What's happening, Daniel?

  • An update would be appreciated.

    • Hi,
Apologies for the lack of communications. As you can imagine it has been a busy time for us with the migration to a new issuing partner and we have been making customer emails and chat messages a priority. I'll post the email i sent to all of our customer below but in the case that you have any furhter questions please feel free to ask me.

Due to the ongoing issues faced by our virtual card partner we have made the decision to permanently part ways and migrate our platform to a new and more stable virtual card partner.

Over the next 3 months we will be completing the migration with our new issuer. We are excited to announce that with this upgrade we will be able to deliver a product that is infinitely better than the last. Our new issuer will allow us to release a number of the features that have been regularly requested by our growing customer base:

-Mobile payments for in-store purchases via Apple, Android and Samsung Pay
      -Greater than $1,000 loads
      -Real time transaction notifications
      -Custom transaction controls
      -DiviPay mobile application
      -Guaranteed payment acceptance every time

We will also be packaging up this migration with a brand new product and website design. Our designer is working hard to align us around our mission to keep you in control of your money. You can check out the new WIP dashboard below.

What does the migration mean for me?

Once the migration is complete, any funds left on your old virtual cards will be automatically transferred to the virtual cards provided by our new issuer
-You can refund all of your funds from DiviPay at any time by closing your virtual card
-You will still be able to login to DiviPay and view your account
Thank you for your patience whilst we rebuild the next version of our product. We are excited that we will be able to bring you the most sophisticated virtual card platform in the world in the coming months.

We will keep you updated with our progress and upcoming launch date, but if you have any questions in the meantime please live chat with us or send me an email directly at [email protected].

      Best regards,
      Daniel and the DiviPay team.

  • My hope is at this point Daniel has given up waiting on their card issuing partner and is in the process of switching over to a backup provider to handle all their backend system integration and for there financial services/card issuing.

I noticed the DiviPay website is down for maintenance https://imgur.com/a/kZ3Am4c

    • Back to normal, still no progress.

    • Hi Kyle, correct we are migrating everything to a new card issuer and will be providing a range of new functionality, most importantly ensuring all transactions work all of the time.

  • As it appears this outage is going to continue for a couple of months until they can re-launch with a new backend partner I've started a new thread for that type of discussion here.

  • Does anyone know who the back-end Issuing Bank is that Divipay was using ? If not, what are the first 6 digits of the cards generated (you can then look that up at http://binbase.com/search.html

  • Your platform is clearly broken, has been for months - is there a plan to reinstill confidence?

    • Hi, Correct the platform had a number of issues. Ultimately we will be relaunching our product with a number of the most requested features including, mobile payments, real time transaction notifications and most importantly the guarantee that all payments will work correctly all of the time. I understand the major inconvenience we have caused but hope that our customer give our product a second chance in its new and improved form.

  • Has anyone got refunds yet?

    • Hi,
Refunds are successfuly being processed but can take up to 5 business days to appear in your account. If you give me the email associated with your account and i can give you an update on any outstanding refunds.

  • Hi Daniel.

    Can you code?

  • Hi again Daniel,

I understand that you're in the process of migration to a new card provider, hence the 3 month down period.
You stated that the new product will be infinitely better than all virtual card products, so am I right to assume then that the following will be included:

    • Using AmEx to load up a divipay card

    • Allowing a card to be loaded up to $15,000 or so

I have a wedding bill to pay and would love to use divipay for this purpose, and the two dot points above will help me make a decision.

    Thanks!!

    • Hi, Thanks for your message. Amex is not part of the immediate rebuild - again this comes down to our cost structure and negotiating a rate with Amex that becomes viable for us to provide it. We do plan to relaunch with laods 15k + however this will require further ID checks, e.g. license verification.

      • regarding cost, isn't there is cost for funding from Visa/MC as well? Is this cost very low?

      • -1

Happy to provide further verification for larger loads.
Looks like I'll have to get prepaid Visa cards then and load up a Divipay card, then pay the bill with that.
        Thanks!

  • I tried to sign up for Divipay a couple days ago.

It tells me you aren't accepting customers and i am on a waiting list and i am number xxx on the waiting list.

what is going on? is the service/website closing down?

when will you accept new users again?

    • +2

HI, we are currently doing a migration to a new card issuing partner. During this time we have limited access to the platform. We anticipate to be live again in August and will onboard all waitlisted customers.

      • Good to know mate. Hope all goes well. If you are looking for ITPMs / SDMs to manage the migration /transition, I'm all ears! :D

      • -1

Even though his the owner, I wouldn't trust these words. Clearly months behind on your last words, it's absolutely terrible.

  • Any updates on the migration?

    • +3

Hi, Yes things are going well and we are all hands on deck to complete the migration as quickly as possible. Unforutnately the things that slow the process down the most are often out of our control, e.g. legal and contract negotiation. We are on track for a late August launch date and will be sure to let the community know as soon as we have a date for the relaunch. Thanks for your patience!

      • Any updates?

      • Any update on the update that was to be announced last week?

Is Divipay being launched in 7 days?

      • It is 5 days before the end of August and still crickets from the Divipay team…

        • Divipay has been active. Their just not replying even though they have repeatedly said they'll share the announcement almost two weeks ago.
