  • I have a few of these around the house and they look great and work well … pretty precise and it looks like the battery lasts long.

I can connect directly to my phone but I just don't know how to connect it to a hub. You need either the bedside lamp with bluetooth or a camera with bluetooth. Has anyone found the camera with the bluetooth hub for sale … ?

I have the lamp, gateway, and one of these. After setting the temperature monitor up through the app it just automatically connects through the bluetooth hub in the lamp to the gateway, there's nothing you need to do. All that this really gives you is the ability to check the temperature when you're not in bluetooth range + historical data is recorded through the gateway.

I don't think I'll be buying any more of these temperature monitors though because at this stage you can't connect them to Home Assistant, which is something I want to do with my temperature monitors.

      • Yep … the lamp should work to connect them. But I am afraid that the range is not that far and I don't want lots of bedside table lamps in my house :-).
This Xiaomi stuff is nice … but far from perfect.

        • Lamps are great. Worth the money. We have 3 of them so far

It works in HA, what drugs are you on?

Are you trying a hubless setup or an integrated BLE?

Hubless is slightly more complicated as you need to enable a few bluetooth tweaks or expect the device to go offline fairly regularly and requiring a bluepy hack.

If using a BLE gateway through a Xiaomi gateway, setup is a bit easier, no bluepy requirements or needing a ble module and some protocol hacks.

        • As I said above, I use a Xiaomi lamp and Xiamoi gateway, but it doesn't show up in my device list in HA. What device name shows up for you? It's certainly not in my device list as a sensor.temperature sensor.

        • @adam:

          HUBLESS Method:
OK, if you are running HA and have bluetooth enabled on your HA box you don't need either the Lamp or the Gateway to integrate them. Your HA box will talk directly to the Hygros and get the battery level, temp and humidity. No need to have the BLE gateway running on your Mi Account, you can if you want in conjunction, this just grabs it from the devices directly.

Drop to SSH on the HA box and get the MAC addresses of the Hygros
          hcitool lescan

          look for 4C:65:A8:XX:XX:XX MJ_HT_V1

You will want the custom sensor loaded:
          https://github.com/dolezsa/Xiaomi_Hygrothermo/blob/master/cu…

It's one file. For typical hassbian, it goes in /home/homeassistant/.homeassistant/custom_components/sensor/

          Then in config you want:
          sensor:
          - platform: xiaomi_hygrothermo
          name: Mijia HT #1
          mac: '4C:65:A8:xx:xx:xx'
          scan_interval: 60

          end up with:

        • @MorriJ:

Actually for configuration.yaml you will want something like:

          sensor:
          - platform: xiaomi_hygrothermo
          name: Upstairs
          mac: '4C:65:A8:xx:xx:xx'
          scan_interval: 20
          - platform: xiaomi_hygrothermo
          name: Downstairs
          mac: '4C:65:A8:xx:xx:xx'
          scan_interval: 20

And you will end up with properly labelled titles:

    • You need the lamp to be on the Mi home app instead of yeelight which means you lose Google Alexa support

      • They can be on both and should be.

Using Mi Bedside Lamp in yeelight with direct alexa integration as well as have it in the mi home app acting as ble gateway back to the main gateway with 2 hygros and 1 flower pot device monitored without any issue.

In fact, as soon as I add it to Yeelight, it appears in Mi Home, I cant prevent Mi Home not knowing about lights managed by Yeelight app.

You running recent versions of Mi Home/ Yeelight?

        • I run Mi home on china server and yeelights in Singapore server so you can't share devices between servers

Not sure how you got China only devices working in Singapore but do share this info

        • I went the other way, all devices are in the China region. Anything added to the Yeelight app appears in Mi Home.

  • is Zapals a reliable seller?

I so happen to be the Geek rep… what is your order number and I'll get that sorted for you?

      • just PM you my order numbers

Cheers I'll get CS to look into it. I suspect customs may have rejected it due to batteries as it happens sometimes.

        • thanks

  • Showing up as out of stock already.

When it says connects with Mi App (presumably on phone) via Bluetooth to record current and historical readings, does that mean it’ll only record readings while connected to your phone, or just upload recordings it took while you were away to your phone?

I want something that’ll tell me the temp/humidity over each day, when I’m not necessarily there to read/get them.

    • It only logs to your phone when you are nearby. Since it's only connection is via Bluetooth, there is no upload when you are away.

Be warned about the Mi App - it harvests all your personal details. Your identity, all your contacts, all your calendar entries, all your phone calls, all your sms texts. It tracks your location. It can turn on the camera and microphone. While I have no direct knowledge, it could be perfect spyware if the developers chose to.

      • +1

You do realise it needs all those permissions for the hundred of devices that work with the Mi Home app to perform their function?

For example, how could I use their smart speakers to make phone calls for me when it doesn't have phone or contact permissions?

Just sent the permissions in Android of you think it won't need it. You'll find out quickly what breaks.

  • Back in stock for $13.99 still a go imo.

  • Does this product allow you to control the temperature ie turn your heating on when away from home?

  • Do you need the gateway for this?
