10,000 Additional Velocity Points on Virgin Australia Return Flights to Hong Kong

One to keep in mind if you’re looking at booking flights to Hong Kong over the next week or so.

Virgin Australia is adding an ADDITIONAL 5,000 bonus Velocity Points per leg on all VA operated and marketed flights to Hong Kong (departing Melbourne, and from July, Sydney). Economy flights are eligible, including Virgin’s Discount Economy (“Getaway”) fares. These are full service (meals and checked baggage).

A return trip on the cheapest long-haul fare type (0.5pts per mile) now attracts a generous 15,000 points (4,500 + 10,000 bonus).

Recently, these Hong Kong flights have been heavily discounted due to the increasing competition on this route (currently available from about $650 return). They might not go any lower while this deal is in place (however, be sure to check sale pricing), but if you’re good with your points, there’s value to be had.

If you can redeem your points for over 2c/point (see some examples in the links below), you could effectively half-offset the cost of your trip.

Hong Kong is a great hub to commence international reward flight travel due to low taxes and better reward seat availability.
