  • Thanks for sharing this - will try to do a trip in June! It'll be the first time :) Any recommendations of places to see in Tasmania???

    • +1

      Cradle Mountain, Hobart, Queenstown etc

      • Cheers!

      • +1

Queenstown? No offence meant to the southeners (I like Tassie) but Queenstown is renown for its rubble footy ground, and not much else

        • +2

          Isn’t Queenstown in New Zealand?

        • +2

Queenstown is remote so you wouldn't go there unless you were doing a West Coast Tassie roadtrip which is definitely worth doing.

        • +1

          @Clear:

If you go to (through) Queenstown, make sure you go to Strahan.

What a difference (Strahan is someone I'd love to go back to in a hurry).

        • +1

Queenstown Tassie is scary. If visiting make sure you leave before dark.

Queenstown NZ is great at any time

        • @Clear: hahahaha! The wild west is definitely worth a visit!

      • And Strahan?

    • +5

Dark Mofo is on during June

Remarkable Cave. All the whiskey distillery's (if you like whiskey). Cradle Mountain tasting trail is pretty good also. If you like caves, look up Wild Cave Tours. Was the best caving tour I've ever done.

Definitely Hobart and cradle mountain. There's a pub in Hobart called New Sydney Hotel with amazing food, roaring fire place, and, when we went, a group of Irish musicians. Great vibe.

If you like the outdoors, cradle mountain has canyoning tours. Highly recommended. Thick wet suits so you won't feel the cold.

The central plateau is beautiful. Skip Strahan and Queenstown unless you're spending time on the wild west coast.

      Mt Wellington!!! Amazing views..

    See Tassie at its peak.

I thought peak season was in summer, but isn't this deal for travel in winter?!? Winter is very cold there and with very short days.

    • +12

Hobart is bursting at the seams during June when Dark Mofo is on.
Days are short. It is cold.
Which means the nights are long. Perfect for long nights out, feasting, roaring fires and hearty drinks!
Embrace the dark! Embrace the cold!

Or just stay in your perpetual, boring summer.

      • +1

Ah I love Winter. I love darkness.

    • Very cold? If doesn't snow to sea level, most days are over double digits.

$200 each way? Yes if booking same week of flying otherwise no.

    • agree, paid 400ish return over Christmas peek. never paid over 250 generally the last 14 years been flying back

    • yes I was thinking are they flying from darwin?

  • Can you use Qantas lounge if booking Jetstar flight?

    • Yes if you have access, and if it's in the same terminal. MEL and SYD it's not.

Launceston .. sigh …. don't go there; complete waste of time.
I don't mind Hobart and Freycinet.

    • Not much love hey; i only speak truth

  • +2

    tiger is cheaper

    • Yeah still ended up pricematching Tiger flights for my dark mofo trip.

    • Unfortunately, out of Hobart Tiger only flies to Melbourne or the Gold Coast. They also don't fly to Launceston.

'Hobart One-Way from Sydney $69 or a $500 fine for urinating in public. The choice is yours'.
'I'll take the fine your honor and apologise to the court'.

    • Fantastic, one less idiot we need to worry about

if baggage check virgin with promo code.

    • Are you saying Virgin has a policy to match Jetstar if you quote a current /available code flight?

      • No just google virgin promo codes. Always a 10% off active.

  • Payed 60 return to Launceston from Brisbane in last year's birthday sale

  • I'd only go if I could make use of a decent map when I got there.

One way flights… Now there's a sneaky way of increasing the gene pool.
