  • Excellent watch and good value. Shame about the PADI logo though….

On the contrary actually; that padi certified watch dial is the icing on the cake for me, from a watch collectors perspective anyway. Otherwise it's just another watch in a sea of Pepsi bezel divers out there. Now if Seiko did a skx009 padi, I would be on it in an instant.

Are there any cheaper, non PADI branded ones? I don't mind mine blending into the sea of pepsi bezeled watches

they charge extra for the PADI logo and give it a nice blue face, at $380 its the same price as the non PADI version, and hey, it's a dive watch…only thing better would be a blue lagoon edition as it also has the nice blue face …. but they are now crazy in price as they only did 6000 of them.
Not sure what the cheapest price for a blue lagoon turtle would be now.

          Seiko SRP779K1 on rubber $340 - $17.00 PULL5 = $323.00 shipped

        • @WatchNerd's SRP Prospex recommendation is spot on. But if you insist on a padi turtle, just get it second hand.

these watches hold their value quite well anyway. Perhaps it's the vintage watch collector in me, but i actually prefer a preowned watch that has actually been used for its intended purpose and aged/patinated well. But for $380, you may as well grab it new and write your own story through wear, a well worn piece with unique fades and patina can still be resold for as much. I'm not a diver, but a brand new diver's watch does nothing for me. Unless you get a modern day submariner, which is a status symbol and dress piece more than anything else. Don't see many rolex submariners, with white gold markers no less, actually worn for a dive in this day and age…

@WatchNerd: metal band is a good way to go if it’s going on special …… they are very expensive to buy real seiko band as accessory / part afterwards , but rubber strap cheaper and easier to buy.

        • @WatchNerd: Sorry to bother you WatchNerd, know of any deals on a non-Pepsi one? Or an SKX007? What's advantages of the turtle vs SKX007?

          @bleeder:

I have an SKX009 and turtle SRP775. SKX is 42mm vs Turtle 44mm. Both wear smaller than they measure. SKX has short lugs and Turtle has a cushion case to spread the size. The Turtle isn't really suitable on a wrist under 7 inches IMO. Turtle has hacking and hand wind. SKX is poverty with neither and needs to be worn to keep the reserve up. Power reserve is about the same. The finishing of the case is better on the Turtle. The Turtle is heavier of course and feels heavy in general on the bracelet. The SKX comes with a jubilee bracelet option which people love or hate. The Turtle is more of an oyster style bracelet that is OK and better than the jubilee, not amazing, a bit noisy. It also has no taper at all, so 22 mm all the way (less comfy than taper). The Turtle has more colourways. The Turtle is the better watch, but if your wrist is small, forget it and get the SKX. They are both great watches. I prefer the aethestics and colours of my Turtle, but the SKX is definitely more comfy and my beater watch.

        • @ilikeit: thanks very much

This watch will probably double in price in a few years time, its quite collectible, a bargain at this price.

    • Why would it double in price in a few years?

  • I have the japan made sea monster already and i like this watch but can't justify the price even though it's a bargain. Hmmm trying to supress my urge not to buy it.

  • Must resist…been planning on grabbing my dive licence though. Maybe get the watch first!

As a former professional diver, this watch is useless for diving. you need a dive computer for diving either on wrist or near SPG

  • Sold out :( was eyeing it for 2 hours

    • wow that was quick …. was going to get one …. snooze you loose …. wonder what deals starbuys will have, bonus is the 3 year AU warranty vs grey import 1 year warranty.

  • Is it worth paying the extra $54 to get it from Starbuy & get a 3yr local warranty or do these things just keep going?

    • +1

They just keep on going. But Seiko's QC, most notably their alignment of dials and bezels is a lucky dip.

    • i wouldn’t pay extra $54 for 2 more years warranty , its if they have same price as part of a sale. this deal sold out in under 3 hours so they know how quickly they move at this price point.

  • +2

All sold. You can't really do more than that. Well done OP.

  • +1

Thanks OP. That's a real good deal. Unfortunately I've got here late, missed out. That was a chance to add a Seiko to my collection. I will be watching Starbuy hoping for a special price.

  • +2

For those who missed out https://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/seiko-prospex-padi-spec… has the watch listed for $399 inc delivery.
Not sure about the company, just came across the link when I was looking for info on the watch. Figured I would share the link for anyone who missed out.

    • These guys are legit. Nice find!

    I like turtles

  • FYI
I received my watch yesterday. Unfortunately the watch is faulty. It’s about 10 minutes fast per hour. It also randomly stops working when worn. The crown feels wrong when screwing in or out. When fully tightened the crown can be moved and it makes a clicking sound like a button. On some occasions when the crown is being tightened the watch will stop working.

Pity because its a very good looking watch. I did read about quality control issues with seiko but I didn’t think it would apply to the Japanese made watches like this one.

Does anyone know if this watch will be covered under Australian seiko warranty?
I really would like to repair it.
