    Same and stolen app?

Edit: Thanks for the downvotes guys.

    • What's the neg for?

That it's similar to another torrent app?

They are both torrent apps, there are going to be similarities.

I don't think the neg is fair in this case.

LibreTorrent is an open source app. Mytorrent Pro simply edited some code (changed colour) and published it under a different name.

You are not getting a "pro" app.

Edit: Revoked my neg cause no one cares.

        • Do you have proof they did that or is it just speculation? Honestly interested.

        • Lol, so now open source can be stolen?!

        • +9

@d1s34s3d: Download it yourself, they didn't even bother to change the app icon.

        • @gorillainwild: No thanks. I've got my own client that I use. Just like to see validation of claims is all.

        • -5

@gorillainwild: looking at pages for both I was intrigued as to the same icon claim so ended up downloading and you're wrong. Completely different icon.
          No proof to your claim.

@d1s34s3d: Have you even opened the app?

          Edit: "Different"

        • @gorillainwild:
Anyone can confirm this? I'll support open source and really authors.
I don't know who copied who, but what a shame to do that!

        • @gorillainwild: No I deleted it after installing. I looked at the app icon as you said it was the same. It wasn't. It looked different on the playstore so I downloaded only for that purpose. Nothing about notification bar icon or whatnot.
But now you have shown proof of your claims which is all I was asking for in the first place.

I'm not going to get bothered by a neg! Do whatever you want!

    • You clearly are considering you made a comment about it.

  • +2

Not a deal, as per the comments the app is already free under a different name.

    • +4

Don't forget to thank OP for their effort. They spend their free time finding dozens of deals for us each week.

      • +2

Thanks for your kind words Xev. Water off a duck's back - some will appreciate, some won't. There are much more important things in life then to be negged on Ozbargain!

    • -3

      Rubbish

  • +2

Neg for not a deal, cloned app. Support open source.

  • +7

Who else just heard of LibreTorrent and installed it cause of this post?

    • Me!

  • Cheers for effort OP. Neg is purely to bring attention to the fact that the app is (likely) a cloned/'stolen' open source app that simply slapped a price on their clone.

  • +1

The thing about cloned apps is: You never know what other things they stick into it. Despite being ad-free, there has been a number clones in the past that have added malware or other hidden agendas in there when going on "sale". Trust in the author calling themselves "Apptricker"?

  • People torrent from their phones? I cannot comprehend then data allowances.
(gotta get those latest Linux distros ;-)

  • +1

Selling this surely violates open source agreements.. It's either theft or fraud.

Thanks for informing me about libretorrent though. Not sure i need a phone torrent app, but whatevs
