Wi-Fi Timed Powerpoints for Pool Pump

Hey Guys,

I need a timed powerpoint that will have different schedules for weekends and weekdays. It's for the pool pump.

What is the OzBargainers choice for Wi-Fi powerpoints? They seem really expensive from Australian shops.

Update: the reason I want the weekend schedule is that we have an old pump. On weekdays I want it turning on just before I go to work so i can be sure it's turning over correctly. On weekends I want a later schedule so everyone isn't woken up. The pump is under the house.

Thanks

Simon

What do you need wifi for?
A cheap 7 day timer will do what you want.

In my experience, these aren't much chop - you need to keep an eye on them because every couple of weeks they'll just wipe the timer settings clean.

    • I have sound these complicated to operate but it's a good thought. I will take another look.

is even simplier to operate and cheaper

Its a pool pump so you dont need to exactness of a digital timer.

48 ON and 48 OFF switching’s available every 24 hours
protect against potentially damaging voltage surges and spikes
        15 minute switching increments

Only issue is that if you get power outages you will find you have to reset the time. (Its very easy to do)

        • They're not multi-day, @OP wants the weekends to be on a different schedule to weekdays.

And since this is OzBargain: https://www.bunnings.com.au/hpm-24hr-analog-timer-with-offse…

I've had one of those running a lamp for probably a decade now. Even think I paid about the same price. Being mechanical it's starting to get a bit noisy.

        • Does this allow a weekend schedule? It looks like the one I have already. Thank you

        • @aimon: BTW thanks D C for clarifying the point I missed.

If this is the case another alternative is to get a wireless switch like what you originally asked for.

I use one, although it was an experiment on my behalf, I am not using it to the full capability. A case of having it to play with.

I bought it on sale here at Ozbargain

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/369119

It works fine. Can handle up to 2400W (need to check your pump size)

Can set times for different days. Can even turn on with a countdown timer (say when kids are in the pool or just after)

You do need the Mihome app (IOS and Android) and has to be set for china - Do a google for details

Some have found it hard to push the plug in due to its safety features, In the worst case get one of the international adapters

Obligatory "do you really need WiFi?", non-WiFi stuff is pretty cheap even in Oz.

Maybe the Sonoff stuff from the usual Chinese suppliers. Cheap enough and they have a multi-day timer for around $15. Not a powerpoint, you'll need to wire it in (AC in, AC out).

Sonoff works with Google home if that matters to you.

  • 7 day timers are pretty common…. either plug in like the bunning one above, or a DIN mounted one (in the fuse box).

As for wifi, why? What do you need wifi for? Pool pumps are set and forget schedules.

  • There's one for $21 but I have seen it for $12. Can do timer functionality and has google home integration. Not sure if it meets Australia Standards.

  • I use some Xiaomi equipment to power my pool filter.

    Filter plugs into this: https://www.gearbest.com/living-appliances/pp_344666.html?wi…

    which interfaces with this: https://www.gearbest.com/living-appliances/pp_344667.html?wi…

Which you can then control with your smart phone from anywhere around the world. Turn the power point on/off and set automatic timers.

    Works a treat.

Not the cheapest way, but will achieve what you want it to.
