What GPU Prices Used to Be?

Hi Guys,

I know GPU prices have gone with the recent crypto mining, I have never really looked into GPU prices in the past but now that I'm building a PC I need one.
Graphic card looks like the most expensive part of the PC and I thought CPU should be more expensive.

Anyway, I was wondering if some could tell me what GPU prices used to be before this boom? For example 1080Ti?

Thank you

If you're a gamer, GPUs have been the most expensive component for as long as I've known.
1080Ti didn't exist before the mining boom, but for reference, the RRP is about $300 higher than the 980Ti - but that's probably got more to do with AMD being more competitive then.
1080 and 1080Ti aren't as cost effective for mining as 1060 and 1070, though that might have changed. There was a time when 1080s could be had for not a lot more than $600 AUD

Incorrect I sold a GTX 1070 for $150 more than I paid for it and bought a GTX 1080 Ti. The amount was enough to buy a GTX 1080 without adding more money so it could have been a "free upgrade".

    I googled: "GPU price history".

First result was Price Trends - PCPartPicker: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/trends/price/video-card/

    From there, I clicked on 1080Ti: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/trends/price/video-card/#gpu.chi…

The age old question: buy now, or buy later for cheaper when it's old tech.

  • I bought my EVGA GTX1070sc on launch week off amazon for like $600 off a deal posted on OzB.

    Edit;
    Actually $550
    the deal

  • I bought a GTX970 for $400 back in the day. Now the GTX1070 is like $700

    • *still is :(

      • yeah i need to upgrade too. GTX970 just doesn't cut it anymore on ultra settings in Triple A games. ;(

  • Not the best source but I did a quick research on this last year but only using ozbargain deals as my data

  • The GTX 1070 is selling for around $500 used on ebay, when the Nvidia 1100 Series comes out the prices will drop and that may be soon or maybe not very soon. https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/8jln5e/is_it_wort…

Maybe your looking for info like this, they talk about cryptocurrency mining gpu prices etc..? https://www.kotaku.com.au/2018/01/dont-upgrade-your-pc-any-t…
