This a great deal and is an extension of a deal that was recently on finder.com.au. Alas I've still got 12 months in the Amex wilderness.

  • Seems like a decent deal. What's the minimum credit limit?

    • +1

Hi Jazattack, the minimum credit limit offered is $3,000.

Plat edge is a great card to hold for the 3 points/$ at supermarkets (including wish egiftcards bought at -5% through cashrewards), and you can then buy gift cards at supermarkets to use at other merchants.

The drawback has always been a dismal 15k signup bonus even with referral, meaning that the thing to do was get a flagship amex like explorer, velocity plat, qantas ultimate and then pick up the plat edge later, getting something in the 75k-100k point range.

A 50k bonus on a much cheaper card is seriously worth considering.

    • I've had the card for awhile, I think this year I may go for one of the 100k offers. Not sure if I will be eligible though , the initial sign up was terrible but it was my first paid card to accumulate points

      • If you are referring to the 100K from Amex, while holding an existing amex (platinum edge), you will not qualify for the bonus. You must not have held any amex in the last 18 months to qualify.

    • What other gift cards do you end up buying? I can't imagine spending enough at Myer, DJs and JB to get enough significant value over another 1.5pts/$ at all merchants Amex card (ignoring sign-up bonuses and annual fees)

      • Some Bunnings from Coles, and I've had my eye on the uber and ebay ones. Also it makes those EFTPOS/prepaid Visa/MC promotions that FlyBuys and WW Rewards offer more worthwhile.

  • This or $450 QANTAS AMEX card hm…

  • How do i pool income with other members of my household? There's nowhere on the application which lets me do so and it just asks for my personal income

    • +2

Hi there, we've checked the form and as you mention, there is no longer anywhere to enter household income (this is the case for other card products also). We are checking with AMEX to see if the criteria has changed and will advise asap. I have asked a mod to remove the reference to pooling in the post in the meantime (as I can't edit post). Cheers, Adele

      • thanks a lot Adele, hope to hear back soon :)

  • Also interested in the possibility of pooling household income.

    • Thanks, we've reached out to AMEX and will provide an update when we have further information.

  • If someone has recently opened company entity Amex card for their business, would they be still eligible for this bonus as it’s in personal name?

    • Hi Lito, unfortunately not. According to the T & Cs on the AMEX website, card members who have held a direct-issued AMEX product in the past 18 months are ineligible for the offer. There is no exemption for business card holders, I'm afraid.
