  • How long do I have to wait after closing an AMEX Velocity Business card? Is it 2yrs before being eligible for bonus points again?

    • yeah, can always be an issue - from the T&C for this card -
"Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the past 18 months are ineligible for this offer."

  • What documents do AMEX ask for in terms of confirming revenue? Only traded for 3 months in FY25 but meet their revenue metrics.

    • +1

They asked me for nothing at all (though I have been a personal customer for 14 years)

      • How long was your ABN registered?

        • Many years - but it wasn't GST registered, so I had to do that - then wait a few days for them to see that. I actually haven't had any income via the ABN in about 5 years though!

      • Did you have a personal AMEX card when you applied for the business card? No impact on the bonus points?

        • I did yes - but it was for the Velocity version of the card with an offer posted here for existing customers

          • @digitalane: I have an existing Qantas Discovery card and this is the reply from the support:

The account is created under a single person's liability and then different type of cards are added under the same account.
As per the terms of the welcome bonus, the points are offered only to the new card members or the old card members who have not held any Primary Amex card in last 18 months.
If you currently hold a Primary Amex card, unfortunately, you will not be eligible for the welcome bonus on any other card as it is completely a system based process.

  • What about additional card holders, are they eligable?

    • Additional card holders aren't considered as a main cardholder. Providing they haven't been a main cardholder within the last 18 months, they can signup and get the bonus points offer.

  • Do people signup a personal card for personal spendings, and a business card for business spendings?

    • It doesn't really matter if you are a small business. Many small business owners sign up for a personal card and use that for their small business spending. And likewise with business cards these days giving better points offers, people who are able to (eg have a side business or old ABN still open etc) are opening business cards and using it for personal spending. Amex (unlike banks like NAB) treat these business cards like personal cards - ie. they are linked to one person and that person can't have had an Amex card (personal or business) in the last 18 months to be eligible for the bonus points.
