  • Thank you! Nearly ordered one of these the other day, glad I held off. Grabbed one.

  • What's the metal plate for?

    • +2

For the mount to stick to
You get a round small one that normally has an adhesive on the back to stick to your case, or the large one to put inside your case so it can't be seen.

    • Magnetic

    • +1

Sticking to the back of your phone or between the phone and the case. It's what the magnet holds on to. I like the magnetic holders but I find the vent clip ones can break bits of the vent.

    • Is bigger better?

    • I haven't had much luck in getting a magnet to stay inside the case for these types of mounts.

  • Does the vent clip stay in when you go to pull the phone off? I notice that is one part they don't show in the video.

    • Yes.

      • I have the Logitech version and the mount stays on the vent.

    • yes its rubbery

    • Mum has a different brand of the same kind of item. It can pull off the vent if you pull the phone directly outwards, though you can pretty easily just pry the phone off by tilting it a bit first to keep the vent part in position, it's not difficult.

  • I've been using this with my S8+ for around a year and I'm very happy with it. Holder fits securely into the air vent and the magnet is very strong.

    • I've noticed on my S8 that I don't even need the plate. The magnet holds the back of the phone even with a back case on the phone.

      • Using this particular mount? I've been looking for a magnetic mount strong enough to hold my S8 with a case on but without using the plate.

    would this affect wireless charging?

    • +1

Or even Google Pay? Will have to test this out.

    • +1

My wireless charging doesn't work but Google Play does.

  • +1

The plate does. Try various positions before sticking the metal plate down. I have one on my iPhone X which is slightly higher than Centre and wireless charging still works

It doesn’t affect Apple Pay on mine.

Edit - the metal plate looks huge on this one. I have a generic metal plate I bought off eBay which is about the size of a 20c coin and it holds fine and doesn’t interfere with wireless charging or Apple pay as mentioned above.

  • I used something similar with my GN4, the touch screen works fine but the magnet messes with the stylus detection and made a dead zone.

I must have ordered this a while back, got it in the mail a week ago and had no bloody clue what it was, until now(i thought it was like a weird fridge magnet)

  • I wouldn't recommend this for those changing their phone/case frequently. Unless you want to peel the magnetic plate and stick to the new one

    • changing their phone/case frequently

how frequent do you change your phone? and even if you do this is a measly $6

      • Well, it's one of my considerations. One example if other family members or friends want to use their device with this, they won't be able to.

I end out buying similar one but with regular clamp holder

        • They come with a couple of plates, so you can use one yourself and one for another phone. A <1mm thick metal is easy to find and create your own if you have more than a couple of devices or you can probably buy the plates separately.

        • @banana365: yep, only 2 plates comes with it. I prefer buying one flexible enough to not hassle me if I want to change the device attached to it

    • I have the non - blitzwolf one from gb and was able to easily cut the plate and round the edges with a scissor to suit my phone / cover, no big deal.

I just wanted to share my experience using a magnetic phone holder in the car with my iPhone 6. I used it for couple of months (loved it because it's just so easy and convenient to mount the phone) and didn't notice anything wrong at all with the phone itself. However, I did some testing with another iPhone 6 and noticed the compass app showing differences on both iPhones. Long story short, the magnetic holder affected (only slightly for me) the compass on my iPhone 6. This really was only going to affect the direction you're facing when using Google Maps. Online you find different stories of people experiencing different issues. e.g.:

    https://forums.androidcentral.com/car/304406-will-magnet-mou…

Also not sure how this may/may not affect the new wireless charging phones now. Not a deal breaker but something to note.

  • It says AU$10.84 now.

  • +1

    trying to charge me $10.84

    Told em their dreamin.

  • Aww missed out. Price changes to US$ 7.99 / AUD$ 10.84 as soon as it loads :(

  • +1

Rep, can we get some more stock on the deal?

Personally I prefer a good quality window mount one. Like Arkon brand which are very solid. They're safer because your line of sight is in line with the windshield.

These are neater and less obvious. But the vents are generally below the eye sight of the road, so when you're checking the map or whatever, your eyes are away from the road.

    • THe one thing I like about the vent clip ones are that they keep your phone nice and cool. I far prefer the position of the window mount ones, but the phone can end up getting bloody hot.

      • +1

In the winter you have to keep the vent closed though.

        • So another minus for the vent mount ones as some vent designs can be closed off without shutting the louvres that these things clip to.

  • +1

Do these vent clips work well?

I used one before and the clip kept sliding off the vent.

  • Back on for US$4.49/AU$6.14…

  • ^ yep still available

  • still available :)

  • I've used one for a few years, I highly recommend them. Just a few tips:
-Close the vent when using the heater, I've forgotten a few times and the phone has overheated and stopped working
-Slide the phone off when removing, don't pull it, as the holder can slip out of the vent and it can get annoying if you're in a hurry and the holder is now stuck to the back of your phone.
-Make sure the metal disc is stuck firm, the first time I applied it, it fell off during a drive, whilst I was using GPS

  • I've found that when mounted in the vent in my IX35, the phone is partially obscured by the steering wheel!

  • How are these compared to the Roidmi ones?

  • Could someone handy please advise of a way to use this on a gyprock wall? I know there are other products much pricier than this that can be used but this is perfect for use on a wall for a tablet.

  • The price is now listed as $9.50 AUD, so I think this deal is expired.
