If You Have an AmEx, How Do You Take Advantage of The New Card Sign up Bonuses?

Hi All,

How do you take advantage of the 100K Sign up credit card offers if you need to have not owned an AMEX for 18 months?

I'm thinking of cancelling my AMEX (the statement offers aren't that great) and just owning a Visa/MasterCard and signing up for new cards every 18 months. My spending isn't high enough to justify the extra points I would get per $1. Amex best is 1.5 points whilst Visa/MasterCard is 1 point.

Cheers

  • There isn't really any other way.

Then do that, and in 18 months sign up for a new AMEX…? Don't understand the point of your question

I'm Not Sure What You're Asking, It Doesnt Make Sense.

  • what was your annual fee like? my DJ's AMEX is only $99/yr and i get 3pts for every $1 at supermarkets and petrol stations. based on points to $$ conversion rates between Amex and my Bank, I'm well-ahead using my AMEX to buy groceries and to fill up.

  • OP is asking if there is a loophole, a bit like Amex cashback offers saying you can't buy gift cards but you really can.

    • There is no loophole.
All you can do is condense your year's spending into three months (usually the case with CC minimum spend requirements for signup bonuses), I just buy woolies/coles gift card (I'm bound to shop at either in the next year or whenever the gift cards expire) to makeup whatever spend I need, then move onto the next card like a card slut.
This way I sort of delay my minimum spend.

  • No loophole that I've found.
I tend to ONLY have an amex (a few actually), and take advantage of Visa/MC offers instead.
Worth it for things like the $299 switch and $199 PS4 Slim from Harvey Norman.

    • which AMEXs do you use? You will need to have a Visa/Mastercard at all times for places that don't take AMEX. do you just churn through Visa/Mastercards every 3 months?
