Dyson DC23 Turbine Plus Vacuum Cleaner @ Harvey Norman $749

30

While I feel harvey norman have over inflated prices, I am pleasntly surprised at this special, Harvey norman have them on sale for $749 (They retail for $949)

I also spoke to the good guys and they will price match and knock $10 off it

Note: The mini turbine head is included regardless in the Dyson DC23 Plus package (just a marketing ploy to sucker you in)

This version comes with the life time HEPA filter, the normal floor turbine head and the mini turbine head.

  • Maybe the price should be in the headline?

yep done that mate - sorry about that

Good price but I feel that british engineering is terrible. Its not in the same league as say Miele. Miele is half the price but is still using bags.

    • +3

might be true in other consumer goods, but surely british dyson generally is held in higher regard…

  • Would it be right to assume that the mini turbine head is not the same as the regular turbine head that comes with the normal DC23?

    • no its the same mini turbine head as buying it in the package or seperatly (its included in the package normally) Harvey Norman just used this as deception to give the customers the perception of getting a bonus - when infact it comes with the mini turbin head as well as the normal turbin head.

The mini turbin head is used for cars and couches etc (its half the size of the normal turbine head) either way both are included

      • Ahhh… so you actually get both… nice… when i bought mine a year ago it only had the big turbine head.

Edit: Actually, I just realised that I bought the MOTORhead DC23 last year for about $800.

What's the difference between the motorhead and turbine head?

The turbine heads (mini or normal size) are passively powered by the suction of the vaccuum (i.e. the air flowing through a "turbine" spins the turbine and then spins the red bristle brush to assist picking up dirt/dust)

The motorhead is a powered head, where electrical cables run down the vaccuum tube and power a electric motor in the vaccuum head to actiely spin the bristle brush.

Available for A$482.33 (including express shipping) from Amazon Germany, if you're happy to go without the Australian warranty: http://www.amazon.de/Dyson-Animalpro-Staubsauger-Turbinendüse-Parkettdüse/dp/B001580024/

I was just going to say a few things:

      • After sales service is terrible at Harvey Norman
      • My rule is that Harvey Norman is nice to browse at but never to buy from

And, what timely post is yours:

      • Just to cheese Mr Gerry Harvey off, you should buy from overseas.

And now tell me that Harvey Norman is not ripping us off!

    • But with a German power plug? What sort of electrical convertor will you need?

      • Europe uses the same voltage as Australia.

You can buy the required adapter from somewhere like Jaycar or Dick Smith.

We have lots of stuff here with Euro, UK and US plugs.

Wikipedia confirms 250V German, close enough to 240V Australian, and adaptors only $10 on eBay.

Amazing that buying from Germany is half the price of buying locally! No wonder Mr Harvey is whining about lost sales.

    • I don't know how u did it - but I went through the check out and got the following when shipping to my address - also the cost u added up doesnt make sense either can u help step us through how u got ur deal?

      Bitte beachten Sie

      Please note

Dyson DC23 Animal bagless vacuum cleaner including Turbine, Mini Turbine Head & Parquet can not be shipped to the selected address.

$482.33 is what Amazon quotes at the very end of the checkout process (before you click confirm, though). Amazon deducts 19% off the price since foreign orders don't need to pay the German VAT, and DHL express shipping (3-5 days to Australia) costs 40 Euros. It also gives you the option to pay in Australian dollars, pre-converted, so you can avoid any currency conversion fees from your credit card.

No such error messages for me. Do you have a properly formatted shipping address set up on your Amazon (US accounts work fine) account? I also don't think they ship to PO Boxes.

        My shipping address is formatted:

        Name Surname
        1 Street Address
        Suburb, NSW 2000
        Australien

Click "An diese Adresse versenden" to select this particular address, and it should ask you for your credit card details in the next step. (I tested checkout again just before posting this comment, and it worked fine with no problems.)

    • Doesn't Amazon not ship any non-book/DVD/CD items to overseas (outside of the original Amazon site's country location)?

I've never been able to buy cameras/electricals from Amazon USA or UK.

      • That's true of most Amazon sites (you can't buy this Dyson from Amazon UK, for instance), but amazon.de seems to be an exception. I've bought non-book/DVD/CD items from amazon.de before, and others were successful in getting Dyson vacuums shipped to them when it was last mentioned on OzBargain: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/34318

Probably an oversight on amazon.de's part. :)

          Hi Folks,
Thanks for the info on purchasing the Dyson DC23 at Amazon.de. After reading this forum, I purchased the DC23 Animalpro (Turbohead Plus) from Amazon.de on the 13/1 and received it yesterday 17/1. Costing me a total of AU$473.26. The cheapest I could find it was HN Broadway at $680. Thanks again! PS. Awesome Vacume!

Thanks for the info, jump22. I purchased one from amazon.de and it turned up after 6 days. Does an amazing job on the carpets; I thought they were clean using my old vacuum but the Dyson picked up heaps more dust.

  • Need a new account for Amazon.de or does the US login work? Anyway to see the site in English?

    • US login works fine. No English site from what I can see, but there's some help in English here: http://www.amazon.de/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_bc…

Checkout is pretty similar to the US Amazon site, and pretty straightforward but it might be a good idea to use Google Translate/Babelfish to verify what you're clicking. :)

  • just a note…on boxing day, the DC23 Turbine Plus were on sale at HN Chadstone (VIC) for $722, but they would not budge on price. In the new "Chadstone Lifestyle Centre" next door - E&S Trading had it for $726, and were willing to go to $700 straight away. Despite their original RRP-ish sticker price The Good Guys upstairs were willing to undercut E&S down to $690 just to get our business.

    • +1

the GoodGuys Chadstone doesnt even willing to price match/price beat on the DC29, after I showed them a receipt! Harvey Norman however will price match! haven't try E&S yet, but I believe they won't do the price I wanted… :P

seeing Mr Gerry Harvey complaint about online sale & want the Australia government to tax us all(things under $1000 shipped from oversea must be taxed)…We should stop buying from Harvey Norman, at least not putting money into his pocket and let him use it to do something against us!

      • sorry to hear you didn't get such a positive experience, though hope you managed to price-match with that receipt eventually.

i actually ended up getting my DC23TP from Mt. Waverley Retravision.
i'd never purchased from Retravision before, and never thought they could offer a competitive price…but yep, I got the best deal from there.

    Sorry mate

    $689 delivered http://shop.bigpond.com/Product.asp?Action=Detail&CID=14&SID…

    $626 http://www.insanedeals.com.au/dyson-dc23-contact-vacuum-clea…

    $739 on backorder http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/dyson-dc23acchmy

Its HN no such thing as a bargain , maybe once every blue moon.

    • +1

      those prices are for the DC23 Contact…there's 4 DC23 models…with a fair price variance in the range…

      DC23 Motorhead (RRP $1099)
      DC23 Turbine Plus (RRP $949)
      DC23 Turbine (RRP $849)
      DC23 Contact (RRP $739)

but yeah, still agree with you…true bargains at HN are few and far between.

      • Thanks you are right not sure if this is a turbine or turbine plus but the turbine ones are at about $700 delivered. Not sure about turbine plus.

  • I recently got a smaller DC22 (compact) Motorhead, for $560ish. Only downsides against the DC23 are smaller container (have to empty more often), and the head is not as heavy/wide.

This was a clearance from Myer, bundled with the $15 for each $75 dea

The motorhead whips the turbine head easily.

  • Highly recommend this vacuum - it's awesome for people with pets and carpets!

  • There have been DC29's going for the sub$400 mark in previous deals, with standard heads. Considering the fact that the turbine head retails for $133, that still works out cheaper to get a turbine head dyson, big barrel dyson.
