Amplify Platinum VISA 50k Bonus Amplify or Qantas Pts after $2k Spend ($99 Annual Fee) @ St George / Bank of Melb / Bank of SA

180

Hello, the St George/Bank of Melb/Bank of SA 60k deal recently expired but I noticed that this new deal is still pretty good. Less points (down to 50k Qantas or Amplify) but the spend requirement is also down - now only $2000 in the first 3 months (this was $3000 previously).

I hold a St George Signature card (90k deal) and a Bank of Melb Platinum card (60k deal), but I am also looking at this deal via Bank of SA…in a few months time.

EDIT: Well I won't be doing that. I called St George and I was told that the amplify program is all linked between the three banks. So that means I'll get the bonus points for my St George card, but not for my Bank of Melb card. I've just hit the spend requirements for both so I'm still holding out some hope both sets still come through… But I won't be taking a chance on a BankSA card.

  • I closed my st George card 5 months ago … can I apply for bank of Mel or bank of SA ?

    • Apprently the TC had bonuses from both

    • Well, I have hit my spend requirements for my St George Signature card, and will also soon meet the spend requirements for my Bank of Melb Platinum card, so we'll see.

My research leads me to believe that they are considered separate products, and that is why I applied for one not long after the other.

If I don't get both sets of bonus points, I will be taking issue with "Jeni" from finder.com (check out the comments on this page: https://www.finder.com.au/bank-of-melbourne-amplify-signatur…)

      • As "Jeni" is a third-party, and doesn't say this has been confirmed with the banks, I'd say you might want to check with a stronger source :)

      • Any updates?

Also… If you happen to only partially fill in the online application and then get distracted and not complete it, you just might get emailed an extra incentive to complete it with an offer of having the first year annual fee waived…

    • How long do you have to wait for the incentive? Should you save your uncompleted application or just close the browser? What step in the application should you do this?

      • I've tested a few methods and all worked as long as I had entered in my email address. So you don't have to progress far in the application process. Got the email within 30 minutes each time.

        • Damn I can't get it to send me the email. What bank are you trying this with?

    • Thanks endolphin - This is a great tip. I filled in the forms, requested the PIN and did not submit my application (Bank of Melbourne). After the session timed out, I received an email "Complete your application and get $0 annual fee for the first year when your card is approved*"

*To be eligible for $0 annual fee waiver in first year, complete your application for a new credit card by clicking ‘Complete Now’ button on this email between 9/06/2018 and 8/07/2018. If your application is approved, the first annual fee will be debited on the 12 month anniversary of the first transaction (including a Balance Transfer) on your account and annually thereafter on the anniversary of the first annual fee.

      Kudos to you!

      • I will note that I got charged the $99 anyway and had to call up to challenge. No one on the phone had a clue what I was talking about, and initially advised that I would have to go into the bank to show them the email. Fortunately the older lady I was talking to said she could tell I wasn't making it up (I was reading back the key points from the email) and put through the refund herself.

        • Same thing happened to me.

    • For future reference I just tried without entering anything, it asked for name + email when saving. Awaiting offer now.

  • Only thing stopping me from a St George card is the fact you can only have one supplementary card. Apparently if I want a second supplementary card, I need to apply for a second credit card - double-you tee eff!? At least this was the case with the Amplify Signature/Platinum

  • Existing customers who currently hold an Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.

    • See my reply above. Someone asked the question on finder.com as to whether or not the reference to "Amplify Platinum" was specific to each bank or not, and the answer was yes.

    • The wording is certainly discouraging, AND I believe a few months ago the wording on similar offers said things like "currently hold a St George Amplify Platinum" or "currently hold a Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum". The fact that the wording became more generic certainly looks like an intention to make it a group-wide exclusion.

      • Yeh, that's a good point. I didn't immediately pick up on the more generic wording but it definitely specifically called out each banks product when I applied for my cards in March and April. Hence why is was confident applying. So it is a very recent change. I wish I took screenshots.

Anyway I'm going to call up on Monday and ask St George directly.

        • Reporting back. I've updated my original post with this…

        • @endolphin:

Update: the promo points for both cards landed in my QFF account last week, despite St George telling me on the phone that I'd only get one.

Happy days! Still not going to take my chances on the Bank SA card though.

How does that compare to this one? (link says expired but it's still available if you click through)

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/355504

  • Can you apply for both the normal rewards points and the qantas one or do you have to choose your rewards program when selecting the card?

    • You must choose one or the other

  • What's the min income requirement?

  • I picked up the BOM card in early April this year, so just before this new deal switched over. Could anyone who also got this please advise the min spend and time period the min spend was to be completed for BOM Amplify Qantas Points?

    Thank you!

    • Was $3,000 spend. I believe 50k points still from memory.
