Free 2-Year Subscription to Barron's Financial Investing ($479 USD) & Dow Jones Market Watch ($198 USD)

1060

Brave privacy browser has a partnership with DOW Jones & Company who are offering a free two-year subscription to Barron's magazine. ($479 USD)

Barron's is a financial investment news magazine turned website. I can confirm that once you have your subscription you can simply delete Brave (although it is a fantastic privacy browser) and you can fully access your subscription from other browsers.

In addition MarketWatch ($198 USD) is also available as a 2-year subscription here: https://brave.com/dowjones-marketwatch

** In order to receive both of these offers you will need to use 2 separate devices but once login has been created you can use the accounts anywhere. Thanks to @itsfree **

        Updated, my bad.

  • +1

Background information on the promo for anybody interested - seems like it’s using some blockchain tech

    • +2

Correct it uses the Cryptocurrency BAT (Basic Attention Token) to reward publishers via the blockchain. This is how they compensate websites while blocking advertising. Interesting to note the creator of Javascript and co-founder of Mozilla is behind Brave.

      • Right. That’s what makes me wonder whether you can actually use it outside the Brave browser, since it relies on that 🤔

    • Could I have an ELI5 version of this? I don't really understand the terms in the article.

      • +1

High-tech complicated way to show you ads, you might even get paid to look at the ads.

        • +2

Correct abb that is the end goal for BAT & Brave. You can choose to have a completely ad free experience for a monthly payment or be rewarded with tokens for viewing ads. I think it is a long way off adoption but will be interesting to see how it works out.

Some more information if you are interested here https://www.basicattentiontoken.org/

I just want to reiterate I am in no way affiliated with these companies, just wanted to share the free subscription to Barron's!

Do I get financial advice from Barron Trump himself?

    • Thanks I just updated it, sorry about that.

    Awesome 1st post. Thanks

    There’s also a MarketWatch subscription available: https://brave.com/dowjones-marketwatch

    • +1

Added to the OP thank you.

    • I downloaded Brave and entered the URL mentioned for the MarketWatch subscription, then once I clicked on the next link given I got this error:

The Redemption Code you entered is invalid.

      • I got the same message, I think the offer is embedded in the download but it also seemed to write something to the registry because even uninstalling the BM version did not work. Used the MarketWatch download, separate pc, different IP address and different email address but I did get both subscriptions. Was probably overkill but I was getting frustrated with my first attempts and it was just simpler for me.

        • +1

Each device has a unique blockchain ID so, yes, you need to use multiple devices (I used my iPhone and Pixel).

        • +2

@itsfree: brilliant workaround, OP should make mention of this in his post

        • +1

@JuliusSeizure: Haha thanks. On the other device, you can even sign in using the account you created for Barron’s (since they’re the same company) – it still works.

          @JuliusSeizure:

          Updated thank you.

    Great. Thanks for sharing

Seems very US centric, but hey, at least I found my next car - Rolls Royce SUV.

  • +1

This is a bloody good deal. Thanks!

  • +1

Is there an easy way to get both subscriptions?
I ended up installing each on a separate pc with different IP address and different email but that might have been overkill. I just couldn't seem to do it on the one pc, even uninstalled the BM version, and installed the MW but it would not offer the MW subscription.

    • I'm in the same boat. Unfortunately, I don't have access two computers so still looking for another way. I'll try to use my work computer tomorrow to get the subscription…hopefully the offer is still available.

      • Use a mobile?

      • worked for me on my mac by dual booting. i suspect if you have a usb stick you can use to boot linux off you might get it no worries

I already get all my financial and investment advice from Westpac. Their investment analysts drive around in $90k cars which suits the role and impresses me.

    • Me too! Don't need no fiduciary relationship when you're dealing with a big bank you can trust!

      • +7

Go with AMP and pay decades of trailing commission. You even get advice after you're dead!

          Don't you mean Commbank?

I know a lawyer who hires a Mercedes car to look rich, and therefore people assume he's successful. But in fact, he loses over 50% of his cases.

      • Does he also own a Rolex?

      • +5

He gets paid irrespective of whether he wins or loses so therefore he's a winner.

    • +3

It's an 80k car. Get it right.

        Adjusted for inflation

      • +6

Mate, it's a high yield investment. It's worth 90k now.

  • I got generic internal error on the market watch offer

Buy bitcoin, dont need these crap. I'm up 1000% already

Past performance is no indication of future performance ;)

      • Tell that to the huge hedge funds out there whom are making serious dough.

        • lol no they aren't. They're hit and miss just like the great majority of stock pickers.

      • It's very easy to make money in this space, still at least 3 years before i think it slows

The best part of the deal is that you get a complimentary WSJ subscription! (which I argue is more useful - at least to me)

    • Do you long know long before the subscription becomes active? I see the subscriptions as active in the same page as the one you liked to, but I still see a subscription prompt when I open articles.

      • It worked almost straight away for me

    • How do you get this?

      • It just appeared automatically for me…

    • +2

Yes great, but not full WSJ subscription, limited in some way…

    • how did you get the wsj sub? :p

      • It just came with the subscription…

  • +1

Great deal! Looking forward to reading this daily along with the AFR.

  • Seems like it must be two personal computers (not tablets, phones, …), at least I couldn't get it to work for second subscription on an iPad (although I installed the Brave browser).

    • It worked for me on my Pixel and iPhone.

  • Is this useful for someone who is planning to start investing in stocks and stuff?

    Thanks.

    • +1

Yes if you are thinking of beginning with investing there is a lot of great information. It may be a little hard to get your head around initially. I would suggest also using a free resource such as investopedia.com good luck.

subscribing to marketwatch does not work even if i use a different mobile phone.
It keeps going back to the page to download Brave over and over even if Brave app was already downloaded.
I tried to manually input the url in Brave and still it keeps going back to the page to download Brave.

    • It needs to be a clean install. Uninstall it first, then install again.

  • I have to install a browser for this?

    • The browser can be removed after signing up.

  • subscribing to marketwatch is not available

  • You only get access to one premium newsletter from Marketwatch. I got the Revolutions Investing one.
    Others the same?

  • +1

I was able to get both on the same machine - on my mac i did one on OSX, another on Windows. I suspect if you don't have a mac you could dual boot into linux off USB and you could do it that way

  • After signing in, There are a few newsletters that i wanted to sign up e.g. the best of barron’s but when click sign up it says it’s only available to members of barrons.com. Doesn’t this promo mean we are members of barrons.com?

    • Hi, OP here. I am using the free membership from the offer and just tested newsletter sign up. I am able to sign-up for any of the newsletters on this page https://www.barrons.com/newsletters so I am unsure why you would be having issues?

      • Yeah it's weird. I checked my subscription date and the expiry date of the sub is 2 years from now alright, but when I click on one of those newsletters with a key, the "signup" button becomes "join now". Have tried this on a different device with different email address (same IP though) and it's the same. I also dont get to see some articles. Wondering if I should send an email to their support team.

        • Yes I think you should as I can absolutely sign up to the newsletters and have been able to read every article that I have viewed so I am unsure what the issue is with your free subscription. Hopefully it gets resolved quickly!

There was only the option for the Barron's one for me?

Idm either way I can get something I'll read for free for 2 years :)

  • Do i need a different email address for the market watch subscription? or do i login with the same account created for barrons

    • I was able to login with the same account

  • +2

Can't seem to get this to work tried downloading on 3 devices,no subscription page coming up on first launch… any ideas?

    • Same for me, I'm wondering if they ran out of free subscriptions :/

      • Yep, likewise. I've tried on two devices so far.

    • Yeah, I'm inclined to believe it's out of free subs. Anyone with a generic account willing to (kindly) share the access to have a look see please? Promise not to be a d**k about it and change any details. PM me if you have faith that I mean well. :P

      • i wouldn't mind the same

Edit2: Fixed it. What I did was clear everything that had anything to do with Brave on my PC. I.e. search for "Brave" through folders and delete everything. Then installed through the link you provided. Upon completion when Brave was opened first it took me to the site "https://www.brave.com/dowjones-barrons" where there's a big "Get my subscription" button which I clicked and then following through. Thanks a lot for the help!

Can vouch it works, already have the subscription!
