  • 4K HDR LED TV

LCD panel. (Every new LCD TV uses LEDs for backlight, with exception of top-of-like Samsung that uses QDs.)

QD is just a layer, they are also use LED (blue emitter instead of white) as its BLU (Back Light Unit) combined with LCD layer.
True QD LED BLU (QD particle embedded in the LED itself) is still not commercially achievable yet. Even when QD LED is achievable, it will still use LCD panel in front of it. Hence it will still fall under same display category (which transmissive display) and LCD TV sub-category.

The only true LED (micro LED) display is what Sony called CLEDIS and Samsung called Wall TV, which potentially able to surpass OLED when the tech finally matured.

Yes, true - it’s a variation - except QD produces better white spectrum from blue LEDs than blue LEDs painted yellow in regular backlight. (Blue LEDs are brightest.)

        • Actually Sony also uses quantum dots. They were the first ones to do it in TV's from 2013, they call it Triluminos Display. Now LG have it too with their Nano Cell TV's. Probably be better to research before stating something like that! Samsung only started Quantum Dot in 2015.

    This thing's nearly 2 years old… ancient technology. ;)

    • But it says LED, which must be new right? Anyway, I'm going to buy a new CRT monitor for a huge amount of money.

  • Best 3D TV?

    • A projector

So disappointed that the Sony kiosk near me closed down a few years ago. Now there is like only three in the country and they are all in NSW :(. Even though this thing is around 2 years old, I still would have grabbed one at this price.

Bought this Tv last year from Chatswood kiosk, they were happy to post it.

Call up and ask if they could include free postage.

  • At that price why not go OLED?

    • Wasnt a fan of LG products….

But things have changed other makers using there panels.. The sony is still a great TV though.

Because the Z9D can produce a 3x birghter image than a current gen OLED, so for some movies/games can provide a better HDR experience (see the youtube comparison). Also better for a room with a lot of natural light with no concerns of potential burn in. Sony's upscaling is also better than other brands.

      Z9D remains Sony's Flagship carried into 2018 although it's 18 months old.

  • @hweita Thanks so much for posting this. I badly wanted this Z9D model. Thinking Sony is not going to ship this to AU anymore, I was about to buy a display model off from JB HI-FI HOME Castel Hill for $3,800 with 1 year warranty few weeks back then I decided not to last minute!

Now, I got a brand new one with 3years Sony Warranty and free shipping for $3,499 :)
