You can see the moon with some detail, nothing fantastic, but a few craters. On a clear and sill night you'll be able to see four of Jupiters moons, but they'll look like tiny light specs around a big star, not so much a planet.

With a 70 mm aperture at this price point you're better off going with one of the tiny Dobsons for about $70 - $90, shorter focal length, but much more manageable and worth it, just not for terrestrial stuff.

    • I have the Celestron AstroMaster 90 (so pretty similar, slightly larger) and use it inner in Melbourne and I can see Jupiter (some cloud band and colour detail and points of the moons) as well as Saturn (faint ring view, no detail). Both look like planets and not just points of light… ymmv with the smaller scope.

  • I had one of these - you can see the moon very clearly.

I also managed to peak at Jupiter (very mesmerizing when you actually see it) however since this is a manual telescope you need to keep moving it in same trajectory or you loose the object.

Not to mention I had to get up around 2am to locate it! haha

    • If you haven't tried Saturn, do. It's amazing.

  • can u see any planets if u in the city area?

    • you can see them with your eyes

    • pretty sure you can see a bit of earth around the city

    • Yes it will work for planets but the more you zoom the more the image will go to pot.

You get roughly 50x-60x magnification per inch of aperture on a clear night. 2.75x60=165. So don't try to push beyond about 150-160x magnification. The 10mm eyepiece will work. So you could probably go down to 6mm (but good short focal length eyepieces are expensive and cheap ones are junk) or use a 2x barlow on the 10mm. The image will also be quite dim (which isn't a huge concern for planets).

A larger telescope you can push to almost triple that.

If you want quality at this price, you are much better off buying a pair of binoculars. You can get something okay at this price. If you want a better telescope you need to spend more $.

Would this allow me to get a glimpse of uranus?

    • not quite, best you can get is Jupiter

    • quora seems to imply for 150 you can get more than a glimpse of uranus

    • +1

No. You cannot see my anus.

Why not just Google the planet? Still mediated by a screen.
