Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 Sport $149 + $4.95 Delivery @ JB Hi-Fi

250

Came across this deal on the Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 Sport. Seems like a great deal since the last time it was posted here in February, it was $230 from Allphones eBay.

Edit: Huawei W1 (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/huawei/huawei-watch-with-black-lea…) is also $199 + Delivery (thanks Doweyy for the heads up)

The Huawei W1 is also $199 + Delivery, seems decent.

    • Nice find, I'll add that to the post!

    • I have a Gear S2 and I think the Huawei is a better pick. Tizen OS just doesn't have enough support compared to Android Wear.

The only question is: does it worth buying right now?

    • +3

No as this is last gen. Upcoming series expected shortly, so this will be 2 gens old soon.

      • Qualcomm is also going to make a new watch SoC this year, which is huge. The 2100 was out of date when they released it 2 years ago, even just a node shrink would help battery life.

With everyone doing a rebranding this year (Samsung is apparently going to go with Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Fit), plus this new Qualcomm chip and Google rebranding to Wear OS, maybe they're all going to try make a proper attempt at smart watches.

      • You can get new series for $150? Also did they mean all these watches will suddenly stop working? Or will they continue working and do nearly all the same functionality as the new ones?

That's a good point, it's definitely dated but might be worth considering for those after a cheap smartwatch. I don't own one myself so I can't comment on the performance, but hopefully somebody who does can share their opinion here.

I have one and it works flawlessly. I mainly use it for time and notifications and it does the job. When I need it to help me reply to text messages, the t9 keyboard works well and it also has voice typing which is handy.

I'm not sure what else people would need a watch for tbh. If you're the active type it's got HR and other health apps. The rotating bezel is amazing - although the classic version with the grooves makes it easier to spin (sport is fine though)

Only improvement I could think of is battery life, but it could last 2 days easily.

        • Does it work with airpods?

        • I don't have airpods, but you can connect Bluetooth headphones to the watch and listen to music without your phone. It's got a Spotify app and I'm pretty sure you can listen off line with Spotify but I've never tried it. You can also put MP3s onto the watch.

    • Either a) wait until the upcoming series and get that or b) wait for the upcoming series and get a discounted Gear S3.

I've got a Gear S3 Frontier and it's such an improvement from the S2 - both aesthetically and performance wise.

But either way, wait for the upcoming new model if you want to get a Samsung smartwatch.

    • If you want a watch that looks like a watch then yes. It does all the basics, apps are still getting updates. Had a big update a few months ago. All the apps updated to S3 apps. If I have the money I would buy another as a backup at this price

I have this on my wrist now.Bought from telstra ebay deal earlier. It is good but has few things need to be checked like the screen rotation when you have to see time is not as quick as of s3 gear and No always on display feature and battery last for atlmost three days.Over all a good smart watch to have.

    • +1

It has always on display feature.

  • Does FACTORY SCOOP mean refurbished?

    • no, means clearance item

      • +1

I just returned mine, because it was in poor condition, almost 2nd hand-like. Not even refurb. Had lots of scratches.

  • For the about the same price you might be better going for the Tic Watch E

It's a good watch. Owned one for years but I think the size of face is a bit small. S3 is a better size, at least for a man.

  • This is back in stock apparently.
