I agree to a point with this. I tried to purchase some Brands Laira Cab Sauv that was on special in a catalogue I was given. However that catalogue only related to SA it turned out so they wouldn't honour the price.
I tried arguing that Dan Murphy's lowest price guarantee should kick in and therefore my local Dan's should beat the price.

Just finished Ardbeg 10 (highly recommended!), so absolutely perfect timing!
Ardbeg 10 over this any day - 46% vs 40%, and a cheaper price on average. If I go Laphroiag, their best standard range bottle is quarter cask @48%.

I agree, but to me that's the trade off - my general experience is if you want a strong hit of peat (and isn't that why people go for standard Laphroaig/Ardbeg?), then younger whiskies mostly deliver better as the phenols degrade over time/exposure to cask maturation).
I usually prefer a lagavulin over these though, as the age softens the peat a little.
Compared to aldi, it is cheaper with cashback and usage of wollies gift cards.

Double black tastes too artificial, if that makes any sense. The smokiness in a lophroaig is much easier and nicer to drink.

yep - when I drink this I can taste the toasted/charred oak barrels, done so as to impart an extra smokiness that comes across to me as artificial.

In my opinion the Lagavulin 8 is superior to the 16. If you like Lagavulin you'd also like Caol Ila 12.
