Best Method for Selling Old Coins??

Hi, I have some old Australian coins that are from 1910-1940. I am looking to sell but unsure which is the best method to go about it. Should I go to a coin dealer? If yes, any recommendations in Victoria? Any online avenues? Thank you in advance for the suggestions

    Dont clean them

Id use a coin auction where the auctioneer is upfront with you about fees and valuations , or have them valued and sell on ebay vs a coin/pawn shop which will lower your value to make a profit

    Silverstackers. Com

Easy to sell there and for advice. Just ask in post.

eBay. Check out listings for similar dated Coins in the same condition as yours, this will give you a good idea of the value of the Coin. A lot of old Pennies, Threepences, etc are fairly common in poor condition, so not worth the postage costs to mail to the Buyer. The value of the coin is a combination of scarcity and condition. You could have 2 sixpence with the same date, but one could be worth $3 and the other worth $300 all because the second coin is in 'mint' condition.

A Coin Dealer will need to make a profit on any Coin that you sell him, so eBay is the better option.

Buy a coin catalogue price guide, eg McDonalds or Rennicks to get an idea of what the coins are worth. These books also include a guide as to how to grade coins

Prices listed are approx. retail and you should expect to get about 1/2 the price shown. A dealer will pay you around 25% of retail.

I would also recommend Silverstackers. I have bought and sold on there a few times. Granted I was dealing with precious metals and that's where most of the interest lies.

There is a pretty big chunk of people who also chase numismatic coins. At the very least you can show off what you have and maybe get a better idea of value/history.
