    As far as I know, prices and distribution of the Converse brand is pretty well controlled.

    $49 seems to be the lowest price they are sold, but via authorised stockists.

      Nah there is a Chuck Taylor II with padding released a few years back. At $120 a pair (with the same shoddy workmanship) it wasn't super successful though and I don't see them around much.
