dependable as the people who use them

Lol I've never met a tradie who is on time…

    • I pride myself on my punctuality. It's a respect thing.

Do they normally do deals on the hammer drill themselves? I see alot of packs with impact driver, can't think of what I'll use it for.

    • +2

Eliminate the use of a screwdriver is what I use the impact driver for.

    • +7

I thought the same until I got an impact driver, now I probably use it more than the drill!

      • Can't you just use a drill for that? I never used one but seems like it's bloody strong, like you won't need it unless you're doing carpentry…

        • A drill doesn't slip, whereas an impact driver does once it hits a specific torque setting. And if you think that isn't important, picture this, trying to undo a bolt/nut with a drill and if the bolt/nut gets stuck, your arm is going to get twisted like a pretzel, because the drill just keeps turning. I know this because twisted my arms doing the exact thing.

The advantage of the drill driver is precisely that you can set the torque, so you don't overtighten screws into soft material. If you use a drill driver (as the per the one in this set) you can (and should) adjust the torque setting via the ring with the numbers. Start with a low number, and if it doesn't get the job done (eg loosen the bolt or drive the screw to the required depth) and stops tightening (it may click or beep), go for a higher number. If you set it too high or leave it in drill mode, then you may experience that wrist/arm twisting action. The drill driver is also a lot quieter.

The advantage of the impact driver is that it can tighten things a lot tighter (depending on specs) than a drill driver, and it tends not to jump out of a phillips screw head as much (due to the action). It's true that once the impact force is done that it won't twist out of your hand, but this should probably not be the reason to choose one over the other.

How to choose which to use?
          * If you are drilling a hole - use the drill (and the drill/max setting on the torque ring)
          * If you have a lot of screws to drive (like a deck) -> Impact driver will be less tiring but be careful to stop when the screw reaches the required depth. You still may need to pre-drill anyway, so see below note on having 2 to use
          * If you need things done up really tight - impact driver
          * If you want quiet - drill driver
          * If you want more precise control - drill driver (use the torque setting)

The advantage of having 2 is to use the drill to pre-drill the holes, and swap to the driver to put the screw in. Saves swapping around, handling hot drill bits etc.

There are a lot of YouTube videos on what the difference between a drill, hammer drill, and impact driver (and impact wrench) are.

        • @t25:
I can at least think of one use if it has torque setting, do these go pretty low? Like say down to force for flat pack assembly?

        • @g2420hd: I use this to remove plastic trim panels in cars and never had a screw cam out or excessive torque that broke the plastic.

So using it on Ikea flat pack should be no problem.

          Thanks mate

    Warranty Info

Register within 4 weeks of purchase to receive a 6 year warranty on tools, batteries and chargers via the Bosch Power Tools website.

6 year warranty on batteries is impressive

    • I can speak for the batteries. I dropped one of my older ones in a bucket of water, sprayed it with WD and let it dry and she’s good as. Also, they last a good time between charges.

      • bosch moved the smarts to the drill and charger and less in the batteries …so batteriy electronics are less complex ….even when dropped in water.

  • I decided to go with the green as the sander and jigsaw were only $90 extra each where blue would have been double or triple that. Also blue don’t have “home” accessories like whipper snippers.

  • Do anyone know:Where can I buy a Bosch charger? Thanks!

  • Got this set, I love them, best tools I own out of the bedroom.

Flesh lights are that good aye? Rofl.

  • For DIY use, what would you choose? this kit or

    Ryobi One+ https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/379023

    Or

    Ozitto https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/379448

    Thanks!

    • +1

For home DIY, Ozito for sure.

    • Also wondering the same, brushless Ozito or Bosch blue? Home DIY, including small deck and drilling into bricks.

      • Don't forget to consider ergonomics, but for the extra $70 I'd be going Bosch Blue. Should last a good while.

      • For drilling into bricks, I would say depends on the brick, but just to be safe, I would buy the Bosch blue.

      • Thanks guys

  • Anyone actually bought this? I did, and it seems the warranty is 3 years on the tool, and 2 years on the battery/charger. Or have I registered this wrong?

  • So i purchased it today at bonnyrigg bunnings seemed to be the last one for even though it was behind the glass thing the box itself looked like it had been opened already even the store assistant had to tape the box back up but he checked and sure enough everything was there got home noticed on the impact driver the little switch that changes the direction of the drill was strange pushing it left to right mad two solid clicks but right to left the first click is there but the secound one is non existent its just really mushy is this normal? not sure why but its bothering me

  • Registration link to extend the warranty:

      • I had the same issues initially when registering, I just tried again the following day and the site was up and running. My guess would be maintenance

    • thanks but this directs back to the link/website that doesnt work mentioned above.

I'll try again some other time.
