[WA] AGL New Gas Customers: 35% off Usage + $50 Credit + 10000 Flybuys Points

481

Competition finally gets serious in the WA gas market.

Note: their daily Account Fee is slightly higher, about $8 per year more than Kleenheat.

Edit: if you negotiate you can get 20000 Flybuys points. See comments below.

As usual no rates published so fools can sign up thinking what a great bargain it is.

I saw the phrase "variable rates".

    • +6

The rates the discount is based on are the standard WA rates that all retailers start with before they apply their discounts. That makes is fairly easy to compare. They only 'odd-one' out was the daily account fee, that's why I mentioned it.

I got an call this morning from Alinta this morning,
Alinta 35% and $50 credit card.
Kleenheat offer 35% and extra 3% RAC members

    • I was with Kleenheat, unfortunately existing customers only get 25% (extra 3% for RAC members). Their 35% for new customers is limited to 12 months, then 25%.

      • +8

Not if you negotiate. I've been on 30% off from the onset, and recently asked to be put on 35%, which they happily obliged (or 38% with RAC membership. Bear in mind that the 35% is only for 12months.

Pro tip - Hit up their Facebook chat :) Here is my contribution to the WA community :p

        • Thanks, I've just hit them up on messenger. Will let you know how it goes.

        • Thanks Moo, hit them up on messenger and got 35% off. Legend

        • Yep me too. Thanks!

        • @micksimpson: why not origin? 40% off without any trouble and you get 75 of you are referred

        • @imnotarobot: why not origin? 40% off without any trouble and you get 75 of you are referred

        • @micksimpson: how do you contact them on messenger?

        • @gutenmuach: I just searched for kleenheat on Facebook messenger

        • Awesome work fellas. Glad you guys managed to get the additional discount!

  • +1

I emailed them 2 days ago regarding the offer and still no response other than automated reply (good customer service ?). The fixed rate for supply charge is cheaper than Kleenheat. As I am not using the gas but have it connected, unfortunately I still have to pay for the supply charge. The offer is helping to reduce the drain of my money paying for nothing.

    • I tried signing up via their website and got an error message at the end. I started a chat to find out what's the problem and the friendly lady signed up me via chat within a few minutes.

      • Tried to find chat button in these 2 days, but unable to find it anywhere. Only email or phone.

        • Might be your browser settings, for me a chat prompt appears in the bottom right hand corner of the website after a few seconds.

        • @team teri: maybe, managed to chat with them finally.

    • Are you sure you're not looking at ex GST vs. inc GST?
      Kleenheat: 21.29 cents
      AGL: 21.285 cents

Anyway, I don't think you have to pay for gas mains if you're not using it. Just cancel.

      • The 21.29 cents is for gas usage. Supply charge ia different. I have been paying Kleenheat for the past year just to supply. I never use the gas. Bloody Alinta told me that I have to pay even though I don't have any open account with any gas provider last year, Thus I signed up with Kleenheat. I am asking Docep for my rights.

  • I'm with alinta currently and looking to change.
Which one is the the cheapest?

    • +2

It seems you can get 35% off the regular usage cost with any of them. For me the $50 + 10000 Flybuys (worth another $50) was enough to pick AGL for now.

  • 24 month Energy Plan period
    Variable rate

    nah

    • +2

At first I stumbled across that too. But actually it's rather misleading: they commit to give you the 35% discount for 24 months (unlike Kleenheat where they only do it for 12 months). But it's not a lock-in contract - you can leave at any time.

And the 'variable' is the same as everyone else: the base rate is set by the WA government on July 1st…

  • And those of us regional WA can suck eggs if you're still having to use 45kg bottles! :)

  • Thanks OP. I actually looked at this last week but the 10000 bonus did not apply to us in WA. Your link however does. Will sign up tonight.

  • origin 40% off and you dont have to pay on time or do direct debit to get the discount

    • If I enter my postcode I get: "Sorry, we don't supply natural gas at your location. But we may be able to deliver LPG gas bottles to your door instead."

      • maybe try giving a call? may work

        • I might switch to them next, but for now I'm waiting for my $50 and 10000 points from AGL…

        • @team teri: yep will be switching to agl and alinta as well and then switch back

  • +1

Getting 40% off with Origin for first year, $75 credit. They have no account keeping fee as AGL and their rates were on par with Kleenheat so worked out to be a better deal. I only managed to get that deal by referral though. I'm in Jandakot WA.

    • refer me pls

    • Would you be able to refer me for me to get the same deal?

    • I'm keen too how did you get the referral?

      • I will PM you :)

        • If you dont mind sending me one too? Thank you.

    • Refer m pls too

    • Pm a referral please

    • Can you PM me a referral too, please?

    • Can I please have a referral via PM? Thankyou

    • Referral please via PM?

    • Can you please PM me a referral too, please OP? Thanks

      • Are there still referrals going around for this Origin deal? Would be interested in one too please.

        • Dont think so as asked long ago and no one replied

  • Spewing, I finally got around to transferring last week but I did track down some details comparing the rates between suppliers in WA : https://www.canstarblue.com.au/energy/gas/natural-gas-suppli…
I hope that's correct as it's what I was basing my decisions on. It also matched the info found on the AGL website when you put in your postcode.

    • Actually, just jumped online and asked to have this offer added. Online chap has done this now - much better.

  • Is this a 24 month contract ?

    • +1

From their page, before you sign up:
      24 Month Energy Plan Period
      No early termination fees
      Variable Rate

      So basically:
they guarantee you the 35% discount for 24 months
you can leave at any time
they can change prices at any time (but in practice are still limited by the maximum set by the state government)

Not sure if I should suppor AGL for holding ransom to its customers in eastern states with monopoly and refusing competition by selling its coal power plant to Alinta .

    • +5

Weird how with this government it's "stand back and regulate less because business knows best" until AGL does something they don't like then it's "that business is doing something wrong! We must regulate it!"

Stop believing the FUD being spread by Turnbull and co. AGL's plan is to replace 2000MW of generation (Liddell) with 2000MW of capacity (wind, solar, gas, and battery). The alternative is to spend $1,000,000,000 to extend Liddell's lifespan until 2027 (an extra five years, woooo) - international best practice is to mothball plants at 50 years, and 2022 is Liddell's 50th year, and it's already suffering constant breakdowns.

AGL's plan is better for the environment, better for AGL, better for the NEM, and in true OzBargain fashion, saves $23/MWh over extending the plant's life.

If you think the Chinese owned Alinta is going to buy it for $250,000,000 and then spend the $1,000,000,000 to extend its life until 2027, you're mistaken. They'll run it into the ground and probably collect taxpayer subsidies to get it working at half capacity.

  • -1

Anything like this for SA resident. I am only getting 10% off with alinta

  • +1

I'm all for fair competition but I wouldn't touch AGL with a bloody barge pole after what they put us through.

They unscrupulously swapped my in-laws' gas account to AGL from Alinta after claiming to have obtained authority from my wife who doesn't even live or have any connection to the property apart from paying for their Internet subscription - hell dodgy.

Long story short, after what turned into a heated phone call and threatening to report them to the ACCC/fair trade ombudsman they finally relented and allowed my in-laws to swap back to Alinta. Reported the buggers anyway.

    • -5

There is a reason why AGL is advertising heavily in WA as the brand reputation in eastern states is damaged . I heard lots of complaints from AGL customers in eastern states Thru 2GB radio (digital radio)

  • +1

Big plus for me is 5% discount for Coles gift cards.

  • For anyone that is a shareholder they also offer a shareholder deal of 35% discount for 12 months and $25 credit. Not as good a deal, but for exisiting customers in the eastern states it might help.

    http://campaign.agl.com.au/landing/shareholder/vipoffer/

  • +2

Just finished online chat session - was offered 35% discount and 25k fly buy points ($125 off Coles shop). Better than $50 credit and 10k points.

    • Wow really? What did you say to get 25K?

Can you give me the link to AGL chat. I tried looking and cant find it. Only got this: https://www.agl.com.au/contact-us , which is a call back.

      • +1

That is the page, the chat button is on the bottom of the page. Did not show up in Chrome, had to use internet Explorer. I told operator that I wanted to switch and that was their offer.

        • Thanks. I didn't manage to sign up last night, your post might be a blessing. Will try in a bit.

And yes, I did use Chrome -_-

        • @starburstyellow:
Chrome worked for me although Nina would not offer anything more then the 35% $50 and 10,000 points

        • Yeah I got this:

"Thanks for waiting. I checked on plan offers in WA, and we only have 10,000 flybuys points. The 25,000 flybuys points are available to other states."

          Think you got lucky.

        • @starburstyellow: try for 20k, worked for me.

        • @smigglejiggle: Dang, you did well. Thanks for chat logs below. Helps me. Will try again now… need to brush up on my negotiation skills…

    • Cheers Free Fall.

Pearl: Welcome to AGL Energy, this is Pearl. How can I help?

Michael Simpson: Hi Pearl, I'm looking at changing to AGL from Kleenheat, a friend of mine got 35% discount and 25k flybuys for switching a bit over a week ago, just wondering if this is still available

Pearl: I can certainly help you with that, Michael. May I have your complete supply address, please?

      Michael Simpson: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (WA 6167)

Pearl: Thanks. Let me check the details of the plan.

      Michael Simpson: Thanks

Pearl: Would you be interested in setting up a direct debit to conveniently manage your payments while receiving the maximum discounts?

Michael Simpson: Yes, that's no problem, I also want to make sure it is not a lock in contract

Pearl: We have standard retail contracts with no discounts, however, what I’ve got available is our Set and Forget plan where you will receive a discount of 35% direct debit discount off your gas usage charges plus 25,000 flybuys bonus points.
Our plan has a 10 business day cooling off period as well, during which you may cancel by contacting AGL.

Pearl: This plan has 24 months energy plan period with no lock-in contract and no exit fees.

Pearl: To finalise this for you I will need to provide you with terms and conditions. This will only take a couple of minutes. In the end, you will be asked to confirm your acceptance. Shall we proceed?

      ~Personal information~

Pearl: Thanks. In WA, price changes generally occur from July each year. We will publish the new rates on our website at least 10 days before their effective date and we’ll notify you no later than your next bill that includes the change.

Pearl: This means that the rates that I have available may change at that time.

Pearl: I can read out our current rates to you now, however I will be sending them to you in your welcome pack. Is it ok if I just send them?

Michael Simpson: that's fine to send them only

Pearl: We may also vary the terms and conditions of your plan, but once again if we do this we’ll notify you (this could be a letter or email) to let you know. Is this all clear?

      Michael Simpson: all clear

Pearl: You will transfer to AGL as of your next available meter read after your 10 business day cooling off period. This will start from when you receive your welcome pack, during which you may cancel your plan by contacting AGL. Do you agree to the terms and conditions of this offer?

      Michael Simpson: I agree

Pearl: If we need further information from you to complete the process, we will contact you. Otherwise, you will receive all this information from us via post/email and a final bill from your current company. We will take care of the rest for you.

Michael Simpson: thank you very much

Pearl: Included in your contract you have free access to My Account online.
To save you time and effort, download the AGL App so you can track your usage, manage your account and pay your bills all on the go.
Pearl: For your direct debit, would you like to use your credit card or bank account?

Michael Simpson: awesome cheers. Am I able to set up my online account now too?

      Michael Simpson: credit card please

Pearl: Your online account will be accessible once your account has been transferred completely. No worries. I will give you a link where we can set up the direct debit on your account. Let me first get your account number.

      Michael Simpson: ok

Pearl: Please take note of your account number, xxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Pearl: Direct Debit - Click here
      Is the link working fine?

      Michael Simpson: yep working fine

Pearl: Please be aware a 0.45% payment processing fee (incl. GST) may apply to all credit/debit card transactions.

Pearl: Perfect. You will also receive discounts on everyday expenses such as fuel and shopping or lifestyle expenses like movie tickets or travel with our AGL Rewards Membership.

      Michael Simpson: all good

Pearl: Everything is all set, Michael. You will receive your welcome pack within 24-48 hours.

Pearl: You can save or email our transcript by clicking the + button (left of your text box), then on the menu that appears choose save or email transcript.

Pearl: Is there anything else I can help with today?

Michael Simpson: awesome, thank you Pearl
      Pearl:
It is my pleasure assisting you with today. I hope I provided you with an excellent service for today. Enjoy the rest of the week.

How does this sound?
    Raghu
    at 14:27, May 25:
Sorry its 35% direct debit discounts.
    Raghu
    at 14:27, May 25:

    Raghu
    at 14:40, May 25:
Sure, I have consulted with my manager and offering our special deal which is savers, where you can enjoy $50 once off credits in your first bill, besides that you will receive 35% pay on time discounts for Gas account on usage charges, which has 24 months energy plan period with no lock in contract. In addition to that, I will apply 20,000 flybuys points.

    • Thanks for that. Just got the same deal.

  • I managed 35% 25k flybuys and $50 credit.

Tried $100 credit but they said max $50. Or i could try by calling and go though it all again. So signed up online

  • switched over from kleenheat, couldn't get any better than 35% 20k flybuys and $50 credit.

correct in that the admin/service fee is 2c more a day, which is around $8 extra a year, but given the bonuses, will take awhile to be worse off.

  • Also if you sign up you can get 500 extra points pay via Direct Debit and or choose monthly billing option.

  • +1

Switched over from Kleenheat via live chat - got 35%, 25K Flybuys and $50 credit :)

  • Switched over today from Kleenheat - 35%, 20k Flybuys and $50 credit. Didn't push for the extra 5k flybuys but congrats to those that got it! I did ask and credit on very first bill and flybuys points within 8 weeks of account opening (past 10 day cool off period I think.)

  • Also got 25k Flybuys points. $50 credit 35% off. Thanks all

  • Anyone knows how much is 25k Flybuys points worth?

  • I also got the 25K points, $50 credit and the 35% off. Thanks to everyone who said that it was possible.

    • how?

      • Get on the online chat and see what you can do. Tell them your friend was offered the above.

If you get no where with 1 person. Then try again and hope you get someone different, if not. Maybe try a different day.

        • I also got the 25K points, $50 credit and the 35% off after about 40 minutes on chat. Thanks

    • are you all in WA? i asked and they said the 25K offer not for WA.

      • +1

I'm in WA and got the 25K points, $50 credit and the 35% off

  • anyone get the 20k flybuys added yet? I only got the $10k automatically.

  • I spoke to the general customer call number and they said the deal was only ever for 10k points.

suggested I send an email to [email protected]

    • +1

      I got a response back:

Thank you for your recent enquiry to us, this email is to advise you of the following information.
      We apologise for any inconvenience.
We have manually applied the remaining 10,000 points to your account.

  • I just tried it (I live in QLD) - would only give me what their web offer is (28%, $50 & 10,000 points)

  • I got the 10k automatically, But had to call up to get the additional 15k applied

  • Just managed to get the offer: 35% off + $50 credit + 25000 flybuys points.
As from the previous chat, after some attempts able to get Pearl to offer me the 25K flybuys.
There may be other Chat staff able to offer the 25K points offer.
But somehow others can only do 20K flybuys points max.
Now the waiting time to get connected and points transfer.

  • Same just managed to get 35% + $50 credit + 25000 flybuys points using online chat.

Had to do it twice before I got an agent that would approve. Nina was the agent.

    Thanks to all.

  • Looks like I have been credited 10k instead of 25k flybuys points as agreed. Tried live chat but they said I had to call Resolutions Team. Resolutions team said they are going to fix it, make sure you check to see how much you are credited as you may need to call them.

    • +1

Same here - I just emailed them and had the remaining 15K points within a week.

      [email protected]

      • thanks for the email … easy … will do the same

      • Thanks for this. I just checked today and also only got 10K.

By any chance are any of you guys's login working? i tried My Account, putting my email/phone, but it always says there is an error.

        • Yep my login works, have you registered?

      • only got 10K, just emailed enquiring about the other 15K ( plus 500 direct debit signup )

  • How long after connection did your flybuys show up in your flybuys account?

I've joined AGL a few weeks ago and flybuys point not showing up yet.
