It's ok but definitely worth purchasing a cheaper espresso machine to get similar results.

Compared to the Torrino and Oracle this is in the affordable range. Not a bad price. You won't get much else under this with a grinder and dual thermoblock.

  • Decent price. Tho I highly recommend getting an extended warranty. Mine, grinder got jammed recently. It is still being repaired. Only used it for one year. I know you can get it repaired even after the first year warranty if you haggle.

    • Yep, got one for my mum for mothers day at HarveyNorman for 599 and its been good. (The steamer/milk frother takes a while before it steams after every use) But it only has 1 year warranty on a product that's a few hundred bucks so i got a 4yr extended replacement warranty.

    • Shame, I've had my breville (bes860) for 7 years without issues

      • You are one of the lucky ones. The problem of mine is apparently very common in BES870 and even smart grinders. Reason for that being the tooth on grinder wheel wears off pretty quickly.

Have been a very happy Nespresso user for 5+ years but the cost and waste was becoming more of an issue in recent years. Got one of these black beauties for only about $20 more a couple of weeks ago and couldn't be happier. I'm amazed at how easy it is to make an incredible coffee and using fairly conservative figures I calculated this machine will pay for itself in 13.5 months when compared to the cost-per-shot of the Nespresso. Couldn't be happier, highly recommended.

I have been there and done that. Nespresso is very expensive to run. I bought this one after my 3 year old Nespresso machine started to leak water all over the bench. I was so surprised the quality of the coffee this things can produce. Of course you need to master the art a bit, which will take some time, but, it is all part of the fun.

Yup! We really enjoyed our time with our Nespresso machines… consistent good coffees without any hassle and the KRUPS Citiz & Milk machines (bought via an Amazon Italy deal here on OzB) were bulletproof! Five+ years of absolute satisfaction (apart from the waste issues) but when a friend who also owned & loved their Nespresso bought a BES870 a few months ago ran the figures and we realised a decent machine would pay itself off in only about 12-18 months purely on the beans vs pods savings and we decided to look further into it.

On setting up the BES870 I thought it would be very messy and it'd take me ages to perfect the milk etc…. but after sacrificing approx. 10-12 shots worth of cheap beans to get the grind/tamping right and frothing a few small batches of milk I'm now making amazingly good coffees… far better than the Nespresso however that could also just be the choice of bean (lovely lovely Campos). I've just bought a couple of 1kg bags of Bay Beans via their OzBargain BOGOF deal as although the Campos stuff is still far cheaper than Nespresso pods it's still quite expensive so we'll keep that for guests or special weekend coffees and use the Bay Beans for our daily hits.

        Yeah, really loving it.

  • Highest rated home machine by Choice (including Torino and Oracle) - although a little doubtful about their coffee knowledge.

  • I think the closest sale (in recent times) has been this one - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/365790 for anyone's reference

    • I've seen it in the $520s recently.. decent price though..

      • Should post if you see it again!

    • This 'Black Sesame' model never seems to go as low as the Silver though. I don't think I've seen it lower than about $550. Got mine a few weeks ago for about $570 on eBay with a free 500g bag of semi-OK beans (approx. $15-20 worth) so although not as cheap as this deal it was still reasonable. Great having sacrificial beans supplied with the machine to experiment with straight away though!

  • Would DJ price match this deal?
