      Galax vs EVGA…

      EVGA please.

        • +11

Actually EVGA is international warranty you deal with them here. And Don’t include blower style coolers, they don’t count. So the real count is two Galax cards. And they are 2 year warranty cards ( from memory ) not the 3 years all other brands share.

        • +1

Last time i checked, plenty didnt mean 3… Plus its only 1 gigabyte blower and 2 crappy Galax Cards… which arent on par with an EVGA card. They should be at least an Asus or MSI Tier card. EVGA also has international warranty anyway so having Aus warranty means nothing.

        • +3

          @Kiato:

Not quite - While the warranty itself is international, EVGA doesn't have any local Australian support and will force you to ship the card back at your expense to Taiwan. You're looking at around $60 in postage costs for that…

        • @Kiato:

Nothing wrong with blower cards, actually perform better in many cases that don’t promote good airflow (either small or badly designed).

        • @Tyrx: I dont think that is the case, this "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com".

Last week I had an issue with a Shield TV (same ship/sold deal), Amazon refunded me the full amount even before they received the return. They handled the OEM issue, the return/refunded process was flawless.

        • @zzkazu:

He is referring to EVGA mostly asks you to send the item back to their hq in Taiwan. Yes this is true most of the time for pcb issues if it’s heatsink they have some where in Sydney that they use to replace them. Shipping if you talk to them and treat them well during the rma mention the high cost of shipping and they will can offer to courier it for you ( had a personal ftw aio die last year they paid courier both ways and gave a brand new card as a replacement took about 8 days total).

Dealing with Amazon they will pay shipping and will often do as you mentioned either refund the item instantly or send the replacement before receiving the faulty one back.

        • @Tyrx:

          https://au.evga.com/support/warranty/

          Shipping
EVGA provides repair centers throughout the world headquartered in: Brea, CA, USA; Munich, Germany; Taipei, Taiwan.

EVGA does not ship to PO Boxes, also any cross-shipped product cannot be sent to a mail forwarding address.

EVGA will pay for return shipping on RMAs via EVGA’s choice of courier and shipping method.

Damaged boxes, or products received in shipping envelopes will be immediately rejected and returned to sender.

If your product is shipped to you and the address is invalid upon delivery you are responsible for a redirect or re-ship fee which will vary depending on your region.

You must contact EVGA prior to shipment for assistance to avoid this charge. EVGA is not responsible for packages delivered to an outdated address.

If the product is returned to EVGA you will be responsible to pay for additional shipping charges. EVGA encourages you to check your shipping address prior to submitting any RMA request.

      • People considering evga for their warranty, beware that they have been changing some of their policies. There is numerous posts and threads on forums around net, one example http://www.overclock.net/forum/69-nvidia/1683593-evga-now-re…
Any ways just check their policies before you buy and don't just go by their good rep because it seems to be changing. Possibly because of mining

A reminder of how crazy gpu prices are right now.

I just wish I started documenting this sooner

    • +1

Yeah I got my 1080 12 months ago for ~$600, could have been less

    • The good ol days.

    • Got my 1080 for ~$600 12 months ago. Glad I bought in when I did.

The Galax for 549 sold out quick and anywhere out of Vic had shipping costs of $50-$90

    • Pretty sure you've captured the all-time lows there, including a price error that MSY honoured… D:

    • So depressing 😫

Nice work… would really like to see AMD/ATi graphics card equivalent list.

  • Also note the 11xx series is rumored to be released this year in the next 2-3 months, these will drop heaps then

    • +9

Realistically the only thing coming out when it is announced/released will be the founder's edition, which will be out of stock for months, and then only after a month or 2 extra will the other brands start coming out, also fully sold out for months no doubt.

I'd say we won't start seeing the new 11xx series cards being available for another 6 months, realistically. The price of the 10xx won't drop much in the mean time (other than the natural reduced demand from the crypto craze dying).

      • +2

There'll be 3rd party cards by August, so punk is spot on. What excess stock that will be left will get a price drop.

      • Tom's hardware actually thinks that it will be August/September and they give a quite detailed timeline in regards to it so as long as nVidia actually starts selling FE in July, I'm pretty sure we will be seeing it in shops in Australia by October.

        • +1

October is still 4-5 months away (depending on how late in October) .. I'm just saying, I wouldn't get my hopes up of the old cards dropping until the new cards are available and in stock locally.

  • yeah nah, gonna wait till they are $500 :(

    • +1

Gumtree or Facebook is probably your only chance or internet cafes with dying populations.

  • Slightly cheaper at Newegg at $770 delivered https://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N…

  • I think that would attract custom charges also, as its over the $500 threshold. Or is it $1000?

    edit……….

Just checked its $1000,, I order one great price.

    • $747 AUD delivered for me using 28 Degrees card..

      • Do you change any settings for the transaction?
You paid in usd or aud?

        • I always pay in USD on the 28 Degrees.

  • Just careful using the splitter cable, I doubt many PSUs design their cables to carry double the rated power. If your PSU supports it, use two seperate PCI cables.

Edit: Forgot these are only 180w… It'd probably actually do perfectly fine. Just don't use the same on any 300w+ power hogs lol

    • They aren't "splitter cables" they go the other way, i.e. combine 2x 6pins. Only 1x8pin connector on the card.

If you dont need one immediately, its probably worth waiting until June/July when the GTX1180 is rumoured to be announced. Most retailers will likely put all current gen cards into clearance to make way for the replacements.

EDIT: Looks like thats already been addressed in an earlier comment.

    • The problem is that there is not much stock left of current cards.
