Are Aldi TV's any good? Looking to get one in the bedroom.

    • +1

Get what you pay for. Probably good enough for an occasionaly used bedroom tv

Depends on your standards however. I'd never buy one personally since I'm quite picky with quality etc. Hisense is probably the lowest I'd go in terms of budget brand TV's.

      • Who do you think produces the best panel at the moment?

    • My 55" bought November is excellent value except the sound was pitiful. Now connected to hi-fi.

    • Better then kogan. I have 2x 21" for kids rooms and take them for use in caravan plays everything on usb mp4mkv etc 1080p for 21" size

I have 32" that was outdoors until the hdmi ports rusted but quality is great

    • Looking to get one in the bedroom.

      Most people are…

    • This particular TV is what I'm wondering about too. It'd only be replacing my bedroom TV so don't need anything huge or special, but if it's rubbish I'd rather not spend the money at all

    Just a quick warning

Your chances of this toilet slipping into the same position the old one fills is extremely small. Base size may differ, trap sizes, bedding has changed from sand/cement to silicon, tiles may need to be removed/installed, removal of old toilet, gyprock exposed, the water point feeding the cistern may need to be changed, etc.

Unless you know what you're doing or can get a plumber who can advise you, I wouldn't recommend purchasing a toilet this way.

Thanks for the heads up. It didn't dawn on me to think about that - I assumed the toilet just sat on top of tiles (I'm not experienced) but you raise some valid concerns which make me think the $300 deal isn't worth it.

What attracted me (obviously the price) was that if a new (and decent) toilet seat will cost me $50-$100 depending on quality/features/etc, $300 for an entirely new toilet to replace a 20 year old Caroma seems like a bargain.

Always does, but it's likely a min price.

Water point is always a big one these days as the older water closets tend to have a valve near the floor. The new systems have it set hidden in the wall behind the cistern.

Another is the flooring. Most people have tiles and the pan base size would likely differ. Means a person would need to source new tiles or find another way to cover the patch.

        Water proofing is another.

There's a huge list of potential problems. If it's for an outdoor dunny and appearance matters little, then it's not a bad deal and changes would cost little, otherwise ……

        • Thanks for the tips. Looks like I should just save the money in my renovation fund.

    • the common toilet at home is leaking and looks worn out(13yo). I am thinking of chaning it and was suggested by to use Citywest waters toilet replacement program(https://www.citywestwater.com.au/saving_water/advice/toilet_…).

I am not too fussed about the model as its for common use. I assume the above warning applies even if I go with toilet replacement program.

Any recommendations??? aldi or toilet replacement program?

      • +1

        Sorry, had to step out.

For peace of mind I'd go with the service provided by City West Water, though it's worth calling them to ensure there wouldn't be any added charges. Certainly the prices are reasonable considering materials and labour are provided, and the plumbers installing it would also be licensed.

I really can't find many details on who installs the Aldi ones or how long the wait would be, but experience in the industry has taught me to be wary of these. Plumbers aren't cheap, nor are water closets, so they're saving money (or making money somewhere) else.

      • Practical experience would suggest you need more than the ba$ic WC with a plastic cistern.

Seated, one has a plastic lid pressed against the cistern - both wear :-(

Doesn't the ALDI unit have a ceramic cistern?

Were WC's a standard size replacement of S trap models might be a breeze.

Tho larger folk might need 'specials'.
To me, "Dunny head Donald" [courtesy of the Guardian Weekly cartoonist] certainly looks to be squatting on 'the' throne, when I see him spread over a chair :-)

    • lol so much this. Prepare your anus for all the hidden costs. I couldn't imagine anything worse than having to deal with a crapload of fixed price dunny installations. That being said there did seem to be a lot of happy customers in the whirlpool thread that had no dramas.

    Does the Toilet have bluetooth?

    • +1

Only Band 28, so build a shrine to it, Chep pallet style……

    • no, you have to pay for it

Only if u drop your toothbrush in it

    • Unfortunately not. It is plug and play though.

If anybody enjoys watching people reduced to their most basic lizard brain thinking, go line up and watch the section where the toilets are - it's both soul crushing, saddening and hilarious at the same time.

      Why?

  • Anyone have experience with the wet/dry vacuum? just looking for a vacuum for the garage and other dirty areas, and wondering if this was any good.

For anyone who wants stories about how things went down the drain last year, here's a Whirlpool thread:

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2639195

My summary of the lot: the service company they had last year (different name to this year) did a shoddy job scheduling and quite a few people didn't have plumbers turn up at the agreed time. The people who did get it installed were happy with the service, no one complained about having to pay extra.

Learning: seems worth to buy, but before you sit home all day waiting, make sure you got the contact details and even better a confirmation from the actual local plumber who will do the job.

    • It looks like it is the same company doing the installations as last year. Their website does talk about 'like for like' installation terms and conditions and extra fees, but right enough there don't seem to be a sea of complaints about upcharges from last year about it.

  • Is Aldi's ergo chair any good?

Looks like the one I bought at office works a few years ago and that one has been great and comfortable

  • Any recommendation for British Brews?

  • Does anyone know if there is a standard distance from the wall to the sewage pipe? I mean will this back-to-wall toilet be really close to the wall or there may be a gap?

    • +1

Found an answer to my own question above.
For an s-trap toilet, the measurement is taken from the wall to the centre of the waste pipe.
An s-trap toilet usually requires a set-out of 140mm. So more or less modern toilets should be fine to replace.

  • Has anyone had any experience with the office shredder and/or carpet cleaner?

Bought a Keji shredder from OW and it jammed bad.

  • Can this be a new install or does it have to go in the place of an old one?

    • Both. Obviously the plumber has nothing to disconnect (or take away for $30 extra) on a new installation.

  • new "gig economy" plenty of students willing to have an "outside" internship for $5 per hour. If one stuffs up there will be plenty more to have another go.

The Limited Warranty usually means spend an hour with a hard to hear person in a cheap country on the phone. They will then tell you that any part that might wear like fill valve will not be covered and your $600 call out plumber still has his go…

  • Recommend the standing desk.
Pro tip: Use a cordless drill with a reversed drill bit to amazingly take the effort out of winding the desk up/down.

  • Wish they have a deal for installing a new vanity unit. Smart OZB tribe, any idea where to find good deals for this?

  • how do these compare to Caromas?

  • Aldi are hilarious: toilet suites and plumbing services, computer printers, office furniture, TVs and grocery food all in one sale. It's like they are mini Walmarts.

    • Personally I'm looking forward to xiaomi opening retail stores .

      • hmmm,, I went to a xiaomi store in China about 6 months ago, imagine a store that kind of looks like an old Dick Smith, with Apple pricing and JB Hi-Fi attitude staff, I left underwhelmed and empty handed.

        • LMAO I was kidding . I had no idea there was such a thing .

  • Comes with a free stool.

  • Is there a special price for a toilet + McVities Digestives 100 pack bundle?

Failure to transparently advertise the set-out measurement range of the S-trap of this toilet suite.

Pointless to consider purchasing it without this most basic information to find out if it fits. What happens when the plumber removes the existing toilet and then advises you that the set-out of this unit is not compatible with the location of the S-trap sewerage hole in the floor of your bathroom/toilet?

To get your head around the range of set-out distances, have a look at the Caroma site:-
    https://www.caroma.com.au/category-product/toilet-suites

[By the way if you are the sort of person with teflon plumbing tape in your toolbox, then with a little time on YouTube you would probably be competent to install a toilet yourself. Of course you would never do this, because laws require a licensed plumber for the job, plus when you flood the carpet in your home you won't be able to claim the damage on insurance.]

  • Managed to get a toilet… Felt like a theme park with a big queue by the time the clock struck 8:30

    • I thought the lines for the toilets would be more comparable to a music festival.
