I have the mate 10 pro from the $59 a month optus deal.
Very average phone screen doesn't show 'true' colours and only 1080p. Camera is very hit and miss however does an amazing portrait mode. Battery life is also very good but fast charging only works with the original adapter as it requires 5 amps and no wireless charging either.
Would either get something cheaper or spend $150 more on getting the pixel 2xl at jb hi fi

Got the same deal and the Mate 10 Pro was great bang for buck at the time… before that Pixel 2XL deal through JB/Telstra came through.

Agree that the phone has its pitfalls, but slap another brand's name on it and it would be selling much better.

Phone screen is comparable (and better in some situations) than my girlfriend's Galaxy S8 - I've always benchmarked screens against the Samsungs. If you can tell the difference between 1080p and 1440p in everyday situations (and even close up) you're doing better than 99% of the general population.

Camera is good, expected slightly better with the Leica name - I think the Sony sensor used is an older one… just one the things they won't tell you. As good as the Galaxy, but far behind the Pixel 2XL and S9 which I've had some time with.

Battery life as you touched on is class-leading, and the fast charge is quicker than other ones I've come across. Not fussed by wireless charging. If you have a wireless charging pad, you need to plug that in… so why not plug your phone in??? Never seen the appeal.

Buying it outright isn't the value way of owning this phone, but in a plan at a reasonable price, it is great value.

Having said that, would consider selling mine for $700 second-hand which isn't great after three months (had to get a replacement from Optus due to a one-off screen issue which I hadn't seen online anywhere).

      8/10 phone.

      • The primary benefit of wireless charging to me is you're not constantly plugging/unplugging your phone and putting stress on the port. While I'm fairly careful with my phones, my family members are not and have had phones in the past that have difficulty charging due to port damage, have to jiggle the cable until it starts charging and hope it doesn't move when you put it down.

What are you bloody talking about the screen?

Go to Settings > Display > Colour Mode > change it to 'Normal' > colour temperature to 'Warm'.

      Bam! sRGB reference quality.

1080p / 1440p on a mobile phone makes absolute zero difference, other than battery life.

I came from a 1440p OLED screen on a Nexus 6P and I see absolutely no difference and I'm super, super, super picky about displays.

Also; camera doesn't take a bad shot in 'Pro' mode (assuming you know basic digital photography ins and outs).

I'm 100% on-board with this phone and it's the best phone I've ever owned (and I've owned many flagships in the past).

      • i second this, i cant fault the phone for the price. Battery is king IMO and this is the best of the bunch. wireless charging doesnt worry me the only thing that would be nice is if the second sim slot could be used for an SD card, not a deal breaker but would be handy as the non pro version does it.

        • I really do like the phone for the price, the same place costs around $40 leaving $19 a month for the phone bringing the 'cost' of the phone to $450. It is definitely worth it for $450 it really is great I just don't think it's worth $850 with budget phones just being as good or when you get spend an extra $150 for a pixel
