    .

    • Likewise! Couldn't believe it actually went to half price this time!
Was content on paying the $4.95 that it frequently went on special for, but this times it was stock-up time.

        • You sure you'll be popping only this? ;)

    • Do you recommend triple butter or single butter?

      • Both have about the same taste to be honest, however I could just be getting bad batches. Get one of each and make your own judgement ;) At this price, you've got nothing to lose!

      • +1

Their ingridient list is absolutely identical, with same amount of popping corn at 70% of the weight.

      • +4

Regular butter version tastes better than the triple butter IMO.

  • +5

    Good deal OP!
Might beg my parents to buy some ;)

    • I'm sure they'll oblige.

    • +4

Do you put chicken salt on them so they taste like KFC Poppin Chicken?

        Genius!!

      • I'm sure your scabs still taste gross even after chicken salt is lathered all over them ;)

  • +5

    Doesn’t this cause cancer?

    • -1

      Corn???

      Ingredients:

Popping Corn (78%), Vegetable Oils [contain Antioxidants (306 from Soy, 304)], Salt, Natural Flavour (contains Milk), Colour (Annatto).

    • +2

No, this post however gave me cancer

    • +2

I have read it in more than one instance. Could be true.

    • +1

Everything causes cancer. What's your point?

    • +1

      Contains milk, so yes :)

But, I assume you are referring to popcorn-lung?

    • +3

      Ozbargain can cause cancer.

    • +4

apparently a lot of microwave popcorn brands use bags that have PFOA and the butter flavoring has dodgy chemicals.
      No proven study/link though…
      Whateves..

      • -2

There's a whole industry consisting of crackpots claiming X food does Y so they get attention and/or paid.

      • -2

Water contains chemicals. My grandfather used to drink it and he died of cancer.

    • -1

      Your mem cozzes kansir.

    • Dr Oz says so, it must be true

      http://insider.foxnews.com/amp/article/34904

    • +1

You are right. Our doctor suggested moving to fresh popcorn instead of microwave bag popcorns.
Still miss the convenience and taste of microwave bag popcorns. Apparently the culprit is diacetyl in artificial butter flavor and more harmful is the perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in the bags.

  • Great hear attack stuff.

    • +4

      hear attack

      I'm all ears.

  • If it ain't triple butter, it ain't worth it.

  • +6

Might have to…. pop into woollies……………

  • +1

Thanks, MathNerd, will pick some up.

    • +7

      Thanks for letting us know.

      • +1

I knew you would be curious 😜

  • +2

whoa. the triple butter flavour have a lower fat percentage than the regular butter flavour??

looks like i'm doing myself a favour by getting the triple butter version

  • +3

Minimum online order is $30, that's 11 x 4 = 44 packs of pop corn! If you consume three packs per movie and the average movie length is 2h10m, that's almost 32 hours of poppin time!

    • +1

      youdidthemaths :)

      • They did the monster math!

  • +16

Around $20 for a popcorn maker
Around $3 for a kg of popping corn

    And you call yourself Ozbargainers!?

    • +4

This guy has the right idea!

    • Why not pop it in the microwave?

      • +1

Because I prefer to keep it safe in my pants?

    • +2

I make popcorn in a simple saucepan on the stove with some olive oil.
Takes 5 min and healthy as!

      • +2

You have to air pop it, adding oil makes it unhealthy, also adding salt. Popping in oil triples the calories.

        • But improves flavour infinitely

        • +2

if you don't add oil or butter, why bother even eating it.

          Eat some kale instead.

    • +1
      • +2

I bought one, and it just isn't the same (even when trying various flavouring methods).

    • So how much am I saving?

How many grams are in the Poppin Microwave packs?

Won't these taste bland so I will need to buy my own butter or whatever anyways.

Ok so 4 x 100g is $2.77 (do they add the weight of the packaging I wonder oh and butter)

      So 1 x 100g is $0.6925 or $0.69 haha lol ok so let's just make this $0.70

      So 10 x 100g or 1kg of Poppin Microwave is $6.925 or $6.93 say $7

So going the make your own way is 7/3 = 2 1/3 times cheaper or for $7 you can make 2.333kgs of microsafe popcorn maker pop corn

The maker is coming up as $24.30 AUD delivered for me

      Items: $18.31
      Delivery: $5.99

So it will take roughly 6kg or 60 x 100g or 15 boxes of 4 packs of the Poppin Microwave Butter to make it worth while for me to to the make it yourself route aka after 15 boxes or 60 individual packs I lose money not going the Décor 4L Microsafe Popcorn Maker way.. hmm interesting

This all assumes the 100g is all kernels and not including packaging or salt or corn plus no washing or soap used so you don't incur those expenses but the landfill does when you throw your disposable popcorn landfilling bag away.

This all also only calculated with half price.. full price would make the recuperation time even less as then the Poppin Microwave will cost double at full normal price.

So going with the Décor 4L Microsafe Popcorn Maker I'll be spending about 1 - 3/7 = 0.571428571 = 57.1428571% less than going with the 4 x 100g Poppin Microwave packs.

Is that right or did stuff up some maths or wordings somewhere it's getting late and I have to go sleep haha lol :'( :)

      • youdidthemaths :)

      • You forgot to add labor costs and trial and errors cost plus few trips to buy ingredients by then all your guests gone

        • Very true but I mean how hard can popping popcorn kernels in a container get haha lol

        • @AlienC: Difficult enough that it warrants: Easy to follow cooking steps are permanently printed on the container so you'll never loose the instructions

        • @Munki: that's fine but what I meant is it can't be much harder than buttering toast it's not like I'm making creme brule from scratch or something.

    • OP shops sell popcorn makers for around $5 easy. Save yourself from the crap they put in this "microwave popcorn"

  • +4

you can buy popping corn for $2 for 500gms, it's very easy to pop as well. I'm not a fan of popcorn, I always seem to get a bit of corn hull stuck to the side of my throat making me feel uncomfortable and even for a time after it has gone.

    • +3

    MSGs yum

    • +1

      It doesn't contain MSG.

  • +1

I've read that the lining of the paper bag has some cancerogenes that are released in the food because of the heat.

    • +2

      cancerogeneloop

    • Do you mean carcinogens? Genuinely would like to know where you read this from.

      • Yup, those ones. Sorry can’t remember where I read it, Most likely it was some random online healthy living article.

      • Fat is a carcinogen, causes the majority of bowel and prostate cancers, the bag microwave popcorn had a lot of fat in it.

        https://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2003nl/030200pusavingyourse…

"Prostate cancer is the leading kind of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death for men (after lung cancer). The typical American man has a one in ten chance of being diagnosed with this disease, and a 3% chance of dying from it. As many as 30% of men in their 30s and 40s have prostate cancer"

"A study of men with prostate cancer found that after an average duration of 34 days on a low-fat diet (20% fat), supplemented with an ounce of flaxseeds daily, there was a decrease in total serum cholesterol, total testosterone, and free androgen index (a measurement of male hormone activity).36 PSA levels decreased slightly, and most importantly, the actual activity of cancer cell growth, as seen under the microscope, decreased in those on the diet."

Yes you read that 30% of men in their 30's-40's have prostate cancer, it is because of garbage like microwave popcorn and other rubbish, I have said many times here, buying a unhealthy food 1/2 price is not a bargain, even if it was free I wouldn't accept it.

        • +2

you haven't provided a real source

That study has more holes then swiss cheese.
