Help Me Choose a New Phone and Carrier

Hi,
I have to jump ship from Virgin because they're soon to be history and also they're terrible, I am trying to decide between a few options for new phones and plans.
I currently have a HTC 10 (which I hate to the core, and will never buy htc again) and my plan is $70/month 9gb.

I am deciding between:

A Xiaomi Mi8 outright from this deal
A Google Pixel 2 or 2XL through telstra with this deal with 'new phone feeling' and google home mini
A LG V30+ outright through this deal

If I buy a phone outright, I can either switch to an Optus plan for $30/month 15gb for 12 months or I'm also open to new suggestions.
I have pretty bad luck picking phone carriers and phones so I'd like some opinions.

Thanks, I really appreciate it!

  • The v30 is pretty good value for money, it's a great phone.

If you need the absolute best camera it isn't for you, but it ticks nearly every other box there is.

    I love it.

  • if happy to sign up to new plan, stick with stock Android and well received Pixel 2 XL (I also still run HTC 10 and would love that phone but also don't want to sign on a plan again)

    • I have to switch plans because Virgin is shutting down. Did you have any issues with your HTC? Mine has been nothing but trouble.

If you hate virgin, why go optus? They're the same network.

    • I hated Virgin's customer service but otherwise I didn't have an issue with the mobile service. Virgin offer a deal to switch over to Optus when they shut down so that was why I considered it.

  • Can't go wrong with a Pixel 2. (Also upgraded from my HTC 10)
