HP Spectre X360 13-AE009TU i5-8250U/8GB RAM/ 360GB SSD $1698.30 @ JB Hi-Fi

60

Probably the cheapest so far for the refreshed Spectre X360 with an 8th gen Intel CPU. From memory, the regular price of this model at JB is $2199 (I remember because I've been tracking the price of this notebook for a few weeks) so the current price is around ~22% off.

The i7-8550U/16GB RAM/512GB SSD (13-ae010tu) is also down to $2293 with their current 15% off computers deal.

Details of the 5% off Wicked Wednesday (here) thanks to s1n1ster

        • Awsome thank you. that makes it a really good price, i looked at it last week and they wouldnt go below $1999 for it!

      • Probably means the Wicked Wednesday promo.

And with today's extra 5% off special it comes down to $1613.1

Cool, thanks ! will update the post.

  • This is the CPU version with 4 proper cores isn't it. Unlike the gimped previous generation?

    • Yeah 8th gen CPU

    • Yes, it has 4 cores and ~40% performance boost over the last generation. For example, the 8th gen Core i5 U series beats even the 7th generation core i7 U series CPUs by a fair margin. And most tech enthusiasts agree that this jump in performance in low voltage CPUs to be the biggest in many years.

Day to day performance isn't a massive difference.

          • the battery time of the 7th gen is actually better!
        • @mrkrazy:

          negative

  • Having used both devices I gotta say that if you are in the market for a 2 in 1, the yoga is a better product. I can't stress how much of a difference the retractable (wave) keyboard makes to usability.

    • For anyone who might be curious, that is the Thinkpad X1 Yoga, not the Yoga 920.

      • Yes, was about to say that. X1 Yoga is a sweet machine, but costs significantly more. Between the consumer grade Yogas (i.e: non-ThinkPad ones) I prefer the Spectre because it has a more vibrant and uniform screen. Compare it side by side with a Yoga (even the 900 series) at JB you'll see the difference, focus on the edges and screen uniformity.

  • Damn it, was hoping it'd 16GB RAM…

  • For anyone interested, keep in mind that this is part of HPs consumer line of products. This is not something they consider good enough to sell to corporate clients. The corporate version is called the Elitebook x360. My bet is this device is using chips from lower grade bins.

Anyone have any opinions on how this compares to the Dell XPS 2 in 1? (Other than obviously the CPU generation difference)

    • Its not just a generation difference, XPS uses a different ultra-low power Y series CPU which is even slower than the 7th generation standard core i5 and i7 U series chips. Probably has less than half the performance of the 8th gen CPU found in the Spectre.

XPS is similar in weight, has similar battery life (but at a significant performance hit) and costs more (current discounted price on DELL website for the i5Y / 8GB is $2000) ?? , don't see the point really.

P.S: XPS 2-in-1 , Spectre X360 reviews for battery life, weight and other comparisons.

      • Thanks for that - my only other concern about it was issues relating to not being able to charge it off a non HP USB charger, but it seems that may no longer be the case as it appears a BIOS update removed their USB Charging DRM on previous models.

  • Anyone know when the deal ends?
