  fair enough, but for some the f1.8-2.8 is more useful than the longer zoom. also will take a while for the VI to get to $939

  As nubix said, the RX100 VI is a completely different camera. It competes with the Panasonic TZ100/TZ200 with a larger zoom range and slower lens.
  
  A bold strategy from Sony. It gives a reason for someone with an RX100 I-V to buy the VI since they serve different purposes, but they also risk losing some loyalty with such an unexpected announcement for something people waited 2+ years for.

That Sony RX100 V is so tempting. I've gone through 2 Mark I's already though. Great quality photos for what they are fragile against the elements.
