I purchased a 5m RGB+W LED strip with an Australian power supply, 4 joiner connectors, controller and infra red remote from Aldi for $35 a few weeks ago. Actually, I got three, since the controllers are so hackable on these that I can piggy back an EPS8266 board into the existing case and get WiFi connected 5m RGBW LED strip for under $50.

The RGB+W LED strip is virtually identical. It also uses 3M adhesive, but it comes without the ugly Philips branding printed on the strip. The connector is also the same. A sensible thing would be to use the reasonably priced Aldi LED strip and pair it up with a smart controller. They are available separately as turn-key solutions or you can hack your own.

Great that you were able to coble together an led loghtstrip that you can control via a bunch of bits and bobs. But for those who have a hue system, this just comnects and works. No modding. No need to use up another wifi connection. Syncs with other hue switches and scenes.

    • Hmmm. This deal has changed from an LED strip to Amazon Echo deal since I posted. My comment (and vote) may appear a bit out of context as a result.

      • +3

The LED strip is still there, OP just found other good deals and added them to the listing.

If he had done a separate listing for them, the mods would have combined it with this deal anyway.

Sure, but the addition of the other products makes this deal a lot better than the LED strip alone.

@peteru: Each product is a separate deal, so your comment is still valid, even if others disagree.

        • @peteru: The Op is great hey. Don't forget to upvote.

  • You should update your page to mention the echo plus for $149, that’s the cheapest I’ve seen it :) so tempted…

    • Yeah already have ;)

  • Bought echo plus and light strip, great deal!
    Thanks OP.

  • Hoping myer and/or OW do this deal also in order to utilise afterpay lol.

  • I am new user at amazon au, so I guess it will be 129. Now question is what bulb is free and how to add to cart?

    • from amazon site = either one Philips Hue white 9.5W A60 E27 E27 Philips Hue light bulb or one Philips Hue WA 9.5W A60 B22 AU light bulb

  • Nice price for the Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus - you'll need to buy the Philips Hue Bridge for it to work with Homekit however.

    • -1

Might buy the echo plus and list my bridge in the trading forum. Still deciding

      • Doesn't echo have less features compared to bridge?

  • Got the lightstrip. Thanks OP

  • "We're sorry! There was an internal error in our system. We logged the problem and will investigate it later. Our apologies for the inconvenience. "

Anyone else having the same problem on checkout ?

  • Do I need the Philips Hue Smart Bridge to connect to the free bulb which comes with the Echo Plus given the Echo Plus has a built-in hub?

    • No you don't need the Philips hub as the Echo Plus has the zigbee hub built in.

  • Thanks, ordered the Hue Light Strip to go with my recent purchase of the Hue Colour Starter Kit. My home office will then have all Hue Lights (plus my bed light) :)

Now just need a good sale on the Hue White Ambience bulbs so that I can do more of the house. I don't need colour for those bulbs, but being able to change the colour temperature from cool to warm would be nice.

      Activate pm

      • Huh?

        Edit: Oh I didn't have my PM's activated… done :)

  • At 2 minds to buy the Echo Plus or not…. The reviews aint real flash on Amazon site. Anyone here bought it?

    • -1

      Me too.

But have a $30 Amazon credit and $20 GST voucher on my account. So potentially $100 with a Philips bulb. And then sell my hue hub?

  • Is it possible to turn on the light remotely when I’m not at home with this setup? Via a app?
