PSA: GoCatch Not Honouring Voucher Codes and Removed Credit

So on Monday, there were several deals that offered $20 credit which stacked, including the referral credit - all up added to $80.

Just got an email from GoCatch. OzBargain was mentioned. It was disguised as an offer by providing us a free membership to GoCatch Rewards (which is basically $8 back for every $100 spent). At the bottom of the email, it tells us that they've adjusted the credit.

Due to the high volume of users attempting to redeem multiple non-offered voucher codes, we’ve had to adjust those credit entries as per the GoCatch Terms and Conditions. You may have seen your credit balance adjusted. If you think there is an issue with this, then simply enter your details in this form here and we’ll assess your case.

Check you credit, most likely it's $0 now. Don't use GoCatch if you were planning to spend the free $80 credit. Also consider uninstalling the app and not ever use them to save yourself from potential problems. They can't even honour the the referral promotion which is applicable to everyone. What other promises/guarantees/promotions are they going to go against?

Fill in the form and fight for your rightful $20 credit at least.

TL;DR: Don't use GoCatch if you were planning to spend the free $80 credit. Check your credit again; it's most likely removed, including your rightful referral credit.

Edit: As advised by Meeno, it seems that the Terms and Conditions (T&C) were secretly altered on Wednesday 13/06/2018 so that the voucher codes "may be disabled by GoCatch at any time for any reason" and voucher codes "are not to be used in conjunction with any other promotion codes"; prior to this date, these clauses did not exist. So basically, they change the T&C whenever and to whatever to suit their liking, and accuse people breach of the T&C after the fact. Not sure I would support a company that pulls off this deceptive and manipulative practice.

Also, there has been numerous confirmed reports (myself, my friends and others) that GoCatch has been calling and/or SMSing people in regards to the "OzBargain offer", and offering $25 credit if you leave them a positive review. This behaviour is highly unethical and unacceptable so please do not comply.

Update on my case for everyone who was following in the deal post.

I was charged $17.34 to my PayPal account after I assumed I had $80 credit (from above).
I contacted GoCatch did not get a response so lodged a PayPal dispute.
    GoCatch then refunded me.

Just got this email, pretty disappointed they didn't honour at least one code….

  • My account still has $80 in it. What are the chances it will last?

    • +5

No chance, use it all before you get purged.

More drones doing unpaid work for criminals.

  • +2

I still have $65… anyone down for a maccas run?

  • +3

Yep, I'm uninstalling GoCatch now. The $20-40 credit was their chance to capture me as a customer, but now I'll never use them. Had I received $20 towards a trip I'd give it a go, and if I was impressed I'd use them a lot. Their loss, there are plenty of other options for me.

I use uber about 5 times a week, I added there codes and booked - was charged $42 took from my PP account & my credit was reduced to $0. The worst thing was an uber would have been $28. I'm now never going to use gocatch.

  • +1

I didn't even try to use these code. They lost me as a customer long ago. Whenever, I tried to use it (when Uber was in Surge); they never had cars nearby and they would "upgrade" me to a taxi. However, I consider taxis to be downgrade and it seemed they were dodgy in their upgrades as the taxi drivers would always complain that they didn't know they were working for rideshare fares. Very dodgy company!!!

  • +3

GoCatch has always been the most expensive way to hail a taxi. All their promotions are just smoke and mirrors trying to hide the fact that you end up paying more using the app. This bait and switch screw up is not helping their image either. And they have the audacity to email and CONGRATULATE me about the "free Rewards Membership", only to hide the message of "we're revoking your credit" in the end. Like I said, it's always smoke and mirrors, even with their email trying to clean up the mess. I can't stand poor service, let along shady practice. I have emailed their support to permanently close my account and already removed the app from my phone.

Same here. Got a shock to see all my credit gone.
    Uninstalled.

This needs to be pinned to top page of OB

  • Did anyone try blasting them on customer support?

  • +1

Same with all my friends who signed up

  • +1

They took away the credit from coupon codes. Fair enough .. but they also took away ALL my credit on my account. Completely wiped to zero.

  • +6

They secretly altered their Ts&Cs to cover their ass.

Just got a phone call from an 04 number.. ignored it and then got a text from 'Rudy' offering to tell me all about the great new benefits of my new 'Ozbargain status'. Why they think harassing me with a phone call is necessary I have no idea. Number blacklisted. App deleted and 1* review left.

  • recevied call about ozbargain status, $25 credit given.

  • Just got a call saying that if I updated to the latest app version and signed up to their reward membership I'd receive a $25 voucher haha. I did send a complaint to their support if that promotes the call. What a joke lol

  • Got a call too. Told to update to a newer app for $25 credit. I can sense they are pretty devastated when the lady asked if I can rate it positive on OZbargain. So sus out and found this post. Lol.

However, my app's the latest version and my credit is still at $60 atm. Tried pre-booking a Saturday trip - do you think it will end up charge my cc?

  • Was planning to book a Maxi to go to airport by using GoCatch just because the $80 credit in my account. After some googling and read all the "1 star" reviews on the review website, I canceled my booking. Now they gave me the reason to uninstall it and put it on my black list, forever.

  • I still have my $80 credit and I got a phone call telling me about my membership. Still sceptical about whether I should use them this weekend.

  • Got a call from an indian bloke saying 'v r giving all ozbargains 25 dollar cradit and free membership, pls update app' (in his words). Then I keep getting emails from Go Catch asking me to add a payment method.

Might still stay away, had the $80 stuck I might have given them a go but they sound dodgy and $25 wont get you far anyway.

    • I got the same call, then received a message not mentioning the $25 credit. I replied to the message and they confirmed the $25 credit.

My account still shows $80 credit, so we'll see what happens but I assume that will disappear just when I go to use it….

GoCatch has been calling everybody about the great news of offering people "free membership upgrade" and asking for good reviews online to hide the bad press they have been receiving for the scam they pulled. Most calls forgot to mention the unilateral wiping of all credit from users' accounts. The lies continue.

    • +2

      Yep, just received this call.

Seemed odd so came here to check. Just looked and saw that my credit was wiped – this was NOT mentioned in the phone call. So deceitful.

App uninstalled. I will never use it or recommend it.

  • 25 buck credit to be posted in the next 24 hours according to some call after I wrote a letter of complaint. FYI.

    • +3

      No 25 buck credit.

Eat a bag of diks gocatch.

GoCatch is trying to save themselves from their most recent PR disaster by continuing their deceitful tactics.

    Update

They really need to take it easy on copying and pasting their lies. GoCatch got caught red handed changing their Ts&Cs to cover up their ass. There wasn't any "non-stacking" clause before. Want proof? Ts&Cs Section 23 Before & After

Oh, by the way, calling people up to trick them into giving you positive reviews is also highly unethical, if not against Ts&Cs of most websites. Beware, if you haven't received the scam call yet, you will soon.

Got a call and same story

  • +1

Got the call. Refuse to use again. Too bad.

  • +2

Got a call but my call got cut off, then got an sms. Will ask them to call me again and tell them to get stuff and I will rate them 1 star on all stores.

  • I asked them to delete all my information by email. I was then told that my account was deactivated. Later, I received a call and text message from a Sandesh (0468 904 597).

Do we have a right to contact a government body and see what information they have on us? How can I be sure my information is deleted?

What recourse do we have here?

    • I would also like to know. I added a payment method. I hope they dont misuse my info..

  • My $60 credit has gone! Pretty annoyed!

  • +1

uninstalled and gave it a 1 star.Yes referral credit removed too. Nasty business.

    • +1

It's so difficult to get a ride with GoCatch, yet their "GoCatch Driver" app has 3000+ 5 star ratings on the app store. They really don't have 3000 drivers, let alone them rating 5 stars. It's obvious that they are purchasing fake star ratings, very much like their riders app!

  • Their FB page ..https://www.facebook.com/gocatch/

    • Surprisingly I can't see any comments about this there

Got the call, told I'd get $25 credit … no sign of it. Call them back, they applied the credit, tried to book a taxi … none available.

Tried to book a taxi a day later and it worked, but the credit disappeared and I was charged full price.

Their 'premium 24/7 support' is never available and they don't seem to return calls. Will wait another day before lodging a paypal dispute.

    • +3

Don't bother waiting. Lodge the PayPal dispute now.

      • Probably … I just like to give them some time, so I can show I've been patient come dispute time.

        • +1

Refund came through, without opening a paypal dispute.

I bet these guys are out of business before the end of the year … crappy app, crappy customer service, opaque pricing, no cars available … ever.

  • Asked them to remove my contact details from their database and yet have just got a call and text from 'Sandheep'. I have now lodged a case with the ACCC to advise.

    • Please update us on your case if ACCC get back to you. I have reported their emails to ACMA as well.

      • +1

ACCC said it was outside their jurisdiction, but referred me to the OAIC.. I've not passed it on to them yet.. I might see if they contact me again first to have more evidence of harrassment.
