Is it better to pay the extra for pro retina

    • +2

      Yeah these are ancient.

    • depends on what use.
For my son that was at school this is perfect, good size, battery life. and seems to be school kid proof.

    • Yes! I'd even buy the 12' MacBook over this to be honest but I'd highly recommend to stay away from both and get a pro! I sadly don't have the money for one but everyone I know who has bought a pro regardless of year has been extremely happy with it.

  • Cheaper than a refurb

  • Why would anyone buy these anymore? Apple are geniuses though, they can still sell near decade old styling and several gen-behind hardware to the masses

Did you just answer your own question?

If you need OSX then the AIR is STILL one of the best, even though its
-not an current 8th gen cpu
      -no USB-C
      -unimpressive resolution screen

why, well its plenty fast enough
has all the I/O you need, so no adaptors
long batt life, so charge & go days use
does everything, I encoded videos for youtube on my AIR daily!

APPLE hardware design suck, but OSX dosent! Its way ahead of WINDOWS10 until they adopt BSD/UNIX/LINUX code base.

      But, I think its worth $700 with 128gb and $900 for 256gb and NOT >$1200! for a 128gb SSD

      • i dont agree about the windows comment but the air is a perfect school laptop.
Son had one for years and it still works fine, batt life good and stood the test of being bashed around at school and in a bag.
But the price for the specs is very poor lucky they were school supplied and we did have to pay (well I guess we did with school fees)

    • 256gb $1099 @mresell.macworld.com.au/webshop/macbookair-13/macbook-air-13-inch-early-2015-16/

      • Refurb isn't this

      • not new

      • refurb and two years older model
not a good deal at all

    • Bought one last week for my son for school.
Cheapest laptop with the required battery life and durability. Looked at the windows options and they were around the same price or more expensive and only had 4Gb Ram. Not a fan of Apple, but for school this was really the cheapest option. Couldn't justify an extra $600 for the Pro

      • Same
I got a 2013 11' model for just school and netflix really as I'm a big desktop user. It's so light and perfect and despite the 4gb of ram it runs butter smooth. I payed 350 for it which idk was a good deal but it's been worth the money. The ram will be a problem in the future but I think 4gb will be enough for basic browsing in the next couple of years since it's Mac OS and not windows.

  • Do not buy, new model coming out soon.

    • thats one rumour

the other is that their will be no more AIRS

Can't recommend purchasing any Apple computers right now unless you absolutely need one. Over a year since any hardware updates for everything other than the iMac Pro, which was 6 months ago. I would expect updates in time for the northern hemisphere back to school period.

    • Well the MacBook Air is rumored to get a complete revamp. I'd personally just wait and see what happens. Deals pop up all the time :)

  • If I was you guys I'd look at saving more for the 12' macbook or the pro.

  • Do you have an extra discount with the student advantage card ?
