  • If you have Amazon Prime, you can get the same price after CashRewards cashback (you need to email them your receipt, however). Works out to be about $414.

which means amazon are still ripping us off….

      • +2

This CA sale price literally the lowest price in the world right now, but only via a pretty cruddy subscription program in eBay Plus (or buying enough parts to mitigate the shipping fee). If you've got the free trial available, and you really want this CPU, go for it.

$414 would be the 2nd lowest in AU, and go very close globally.

    • Buy local and support ours company.

      • Or buy competitively, and stop letting everyone maintain huge margins on PC components.

If you're just buying the 2700x as a standalone purchase, the Amazon option provides something should you miss this sale.

Isn't our (CA) price of $398.65 with eBay Plus (Free) more competitive?

@corbin: does my comment indicate otherwise?

        • +3

          @corbin:

@corbin just an FYI; I bought an 2700x off you guys just after the Zen+ launch and you guys sent it in a standard startrack satchel without padding or anything. The box was totally crushed by the dim wits that is Star Track. luckily the chip and cooler wernt damanged and I couldnt give a rats arse about the retail packaging, but for others, they might be a bit peeved.

Maybe this could be something you could improve on.

@Neilgero: We had issues with HDD packing a while back - I sorted that out with boxing specifically for the drives we now order in along with plenty of tight padding so they move around.

CPUs are not generally a issue, don't think we have every had one damaged in transit, but i will have a look at what the guys are doing there. We generally match the packing with the risk of damage, but it still doesn't look good if the retail box gets squished.

          …Adam

        • @Computer Alliance:

My 1700 box got a little squished unfortunately, but my 2 x WD Reds that arrived yesterday were certainly well packed.

        • Dude theirs barely any margins on components, it's accessories where the dollaz are.

        • @jasswolf: it sort of implies otherwise, yeah. But I know what you mean, you're speaking generally. That "buy local" comment implies we should bend over for Gerry Harvey".

@namenottaken: Knew we were doing something wrong! Excellent advice. Right then, our next Ozabargain deal shall be the boxes we buy in for HDD shipping.

hmm, actually seems like selling accessories just seems like has too many complications and legal traps.

        • I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that computer hardware has very low margins; somewhere in the range of only 10%.

        • @skittlebrau: depends on the item, but you're probably not far off for CPUs in general. This is launch pricing, however.

This is more than likely a loss leader, but when you look at the prices of the likely-bundled components, you get a clearer picture of what's happening.

  • I reckon u deserve plaudits for getting the price down a bit but the au distributors ruined the local computer market and now we are all screwed till the customs border comes down.

I ordered one from Computer Alliance yesterday in the eBay sale and received it today. Very happy!

Would you mind tell me where about you live? I am in perth, not sure if I can get it as soon as yours.

  • should I sell my 1700 and upgrade to this beast? If so, how much can I sell my 1700 for? $200?

    • Depends what you're using it for.
I saw a huge benefit upgrading my 1600X to a 2700X in terms of single-threaded performance.
This beast can overclock more easily, and has +3% IPC.

Wait for the Zen 2 cores (Ryzen 3700X). It's likely to be a big jump.

This is a 5-10% increase at 100% load, with slightly larger gains for cores 1-4.
