  • Why would someone get this instead of the 18-105 just for the extra focal length but miles better overall?

The 18-135 does have the advantage in size and weight on top of the reach advantage. The 18-105 is 78 x 110mm and weighs 427g. This is 67 x 88 and weighs 325g. If these don't matter, then the 18-105 is definitely a better buy.

Some people just don't know any better - but yeah, I agree with above, it's that the 18-105 is just a bigger lens. It is a better lens for basically everything compared to this 18-135 though. You can just crop in the last 30mm, it's not really all that much. If I had my choice, I'd go with the Zeiss 16-70.

      • I used to have an 18-200 but the reality is 99.9% of shots are going to be between 18 and 50 and no one actually ever takes a photo of a bird in a tree from 500m away. I’d be putting money into something wider like 12-16mm. 16-70 sounds pretty sweet for a single lens.
