PICKSMITH

Hi Ozbargainers!

Despite the accusations of price-jacking. I found some good deals on monitors, thanks to the 20% off storewide at dicksmith starting today at 10am: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/387231

Acer KG271UA was $499 now $399.20 (Out of stock)
- 27"
- TN panel
- 2560x1440p
- 144hz
- 1ms input response
- freesync/adaptive sync

There aren't reviews on this monitor but it does have 4.5 stars according to the 157 reviews at mwave. the cheapest 1440p 144hz monitor you'll find without any bells and whistles.

AOC AGON AG322QCX was $599 now $479.20
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AOC-AGON-31-5-2560x1440-QHD-144H…
- 31.5"
- Curved VA panel
- 2560x1440p
- 144hz
- 1ms input response
- freesync

This one has a much bigger, curved screen and a VA panel for slightly better colour. It also has some dedicated reviews.

These monitors are the raw 1440p 144hz without the bells and whistles (e.g no G-Sync or IPS panel) but if you really need those things your pretty much doubling the price.

    No g sync :/
Btw why g sync monitors are so expensive!

    • +3

      Extra hardware

    • +20

Requires a physical chip and nvidia is greedy

      • Mo' powagh too.

So a bigger power supply. The most expensive parts of the circuitry, other than those multi-coloured Devils Eyes on the back (that probably use 10x more power than the Nvidia chip)

    • +2

In order to achieve adaptive sync, nVidia uses proprietary chip inside monitors, hence the higher prices.
AMD uses open software which every monitor manufacturer can implement with minimal extra cost.

    • To be able to use G-sync the company thats making the monitor has to buy a license for each individual monitor.

  • Ag 32 has removed

It was just problem with link thanks for noticing! I've updated it now

    Nice debut post.
Good cheap freesync monitor and the shipping price isn't too offensive either (at least to where I live, Sunshine Coast QLD).

Thanks for listing the AOC as the alternative, it is the one I am seriously considering right now.
AOC also has a promotion for their monitors which include a USD $25 Steam voucher.

Phew! Dodgy Kogan Dick, I beat you for that AOC monitor!

Nabbed one before you did the dirty on the stock tampering!

      $479.20 + $44.02 Shipping. Total $523.22. ($518 with Cashback).

AOC promo includes USD $25 steam voucher, so that's worth approx $33.82.
Effectively paid $484 ish dollars. Pretty happy with that.

Will pair nicely with my new Sapphire RX Vega 64 Nitro+ :)

      • awesome glad you got one!

        • Even the AOC 31.5" QHD ones are good- and only $279 or so.

But nothing will stop them rocking!

The stupid single leg stands AOC favour, but fail to fasten rigidly enough. And their stupid little buttons, invisibly placed on the far right lower edge, where pressing them gives the force maximum leverage over the spindly stand, causing the whole monitor to rock when you change input or adjust something. Fools.

Amazing that they work electronically, but not physically. A product fail perhaps, but a failure which the more expensive model do not suffer as much.

        • @resisting the urge:
The Agon stands are rock solid. A bit bulky and not able to be raised or lowered but quite sturdy.

  • I am using 16:9 24" at the moment, should i get a 29" ultra wide monitor or 27" 16:9…advice please!!!

  • Thanks for trying again with the post. I had considered the AOC, but I think it's just too big for my situation. I have about 80cm between chair and monitor. IF they don't pricejack it, I think I'll go with the Acer.

Anyone able to advise about warranty for both the Acer and AOC?

  • +1

And… the Acer is out of stock :(

    • +4

wowwwww… it said more than 10 available half an hour ago and now it says out of stock just before the deal starts… shame on you dicksmith.

      • +3

8 watched in last 24 hours and more than 10 sold…dont worry they will be back after sale period for 499

      • +1

yep, they definitely all disappeared before 10am. Dunno what's worse, this or pricejacking…

        • If OzBargain was a superhero, it's arch nemesis would have to be the evildoer, Price Jack.

  • They already increased the price of AOC :(.

  • Nice deal but they're already gone.

  • This one is not bad but it is only FHD and 240Hz

This is the 1080p version for those that have Nvidia 1070GTX or lower and want to play at decent framerates maxed.
(I can wait another year or so for the next gen Nvidia GPUs so I'm perfectly fine with 1080p)

As per dangercharlie above; https://au.aoc.com/promotion_activity.php makes it even better (if it works)

    • +2

The only time you're really striving for super high frame rates is in esports titles, so the GTX 1070 can normally push 1440p/120+ fps with great graphics on those titles (even 1440p/240 fps, if such a monitor was on the market).

As an example, the 1060 6GB can push 100 fps at 1440p on ultra settings in Overwatch. Do not make purchasing decisions purely on target FPS and rez at max settings, as there are some eye candy options that have massive performance hits that you'll likely be able to turn down without noticing a difference (especially as you keep increasing the resolution).

I actually have this monitor, has served me well since 2016. I have been using my GTX 970 even though not compatible with Freesync.
Great for gaming not so great for text, but not an absolute write-off either.

That's why I bought the 1440p version today as I finally have a nice Vega gpu to pair it with.
My new gpu will be overkill for the older AOC I already have, but 1440p with the AG322QCX should be spot on.

Edit: The AOC USD $25 steam credit should work fine. I redeemed a nice bundle of gaming mouse, Overwatch Pop Vinyl a t-shirt and a super awesome AOC pen (lol) when there was a promo running when I bought the FCX in 2016.

Here are the terms for the current promotion:

Thanks for the link and the review , I missed out on the AG322QCX but will give this monitor a try…I think it will go great with my GTX 1060 rig. Hopefully it will be delivered this time next week
