  • Hi,

New to the 18650 flashlight scene, I'm wondering whether I need a protected (nipple?) or unprotected 18650 battery in this. I have a couple of Samsung 30Qs around, Is this what I need? will it work but a protected battery is recommended? or is the 30Q overkill?

Since it looks like i'm falling down the rabbit hole, I think I need a charger, I hear good things about the Nitecore chargers but I'm unsure which variation is the preferred.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Oh, I picked one of the Convoys up.

    • As per this review:

Springs on both ends so any 18650 will work. Also has built in undervoltage protection so should be perfectly fine to use with unprotected cells. 30Q's would be perfect.

    • Always always buy protected. The unprotected batteries are only really required in very very cheap and nasty flashlights and chargers. Im talking like $2.99 stuff. In most flashlights (97% of the time) the "nipple" batteries are compatable.
