bargain. wish that they'd put the 4tb expansion portables up…both shuckable drives (although i think the 4tb might be thicker than standard so no good for laptops).

Great find. I'm not interested in shucking so I bit the bullet on a Toshiba 3TB for $117 at Officeworks. It's around the same price per TB ($39) which is mad cheap.

    • Should have bought the 3TB when it was $72 at Amazon literally 3 days ago

      • That's what I get for killing my hard drive on the first day of the new financial year.

My $72 3TB was DOA from Amazon a few days ago. Im hoping they replace it for that price but the experience has left me cautious.

      • But you can't pull the drive out of that and put it in a laptop/ps4 since the usb interface is soldered onto the hard drive.

Yea am aware, zzymurgy wasn’t interested in shucking though

    • just nevermind

  • July is title improvement month.

    • In future, please mention the store/retailer in the title.

That's been fixed. Moderators and power users spend time fixing titles throughout the day and any help is appreciated. Thanks for posting!

    Thanks OP. Picked one up.

I picked one of these up in mid June for $67 from TGG via click n collect on eBay. These deals seem to come around pretty regularly.

    • Yeh was bout to say the same. Rrp is pretty high and they hover around this price constantly.

Anykne know if these are the 5400 spinning stuff likely to fail?

  • +1

    Any deals on 8tb?

  • This item isn't available in the requested quantity. It may have been purchased already, or the listing has expired.

  • Can you open this and use it as an internal hdd?

I've been using one of these on my Ps4 for years. Works super well just be aware you'll need to have it hooked up to one of the USB slots at all times.

    • Do you run your games from it?
      Is there any noticeable lag?
Have you tested by running games from internal HD
Then running same game from external sdd?

      Very interesting!

    • Can you open this and use it as an internal hdd?

  • Good deal, just keep in mind you won't be likely to see the item for some time.

Typically Good Guys on ebay take at least a week before they actually post the item. I've only bought 4 things from them, but this has been the case every time.

If you don't receive it at the end of the 2nd week then they've probably forgotten to send the item, which has happened to me twice. Just send an ebay request ("Didn't receive the item") and you'll have it by the end of the 3rd week after you made the purchase.

  • Apparently these drives from Seagate have a high failure rate (15%):

    https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expansion-Portable-External-S…

    • Anyone able to recommend the most reliable external hard drive/s?

Don't mind paying a little extra for quality or reliability.

I have no idea where that guy got that info from but I have never seen a reliable source investigate the failure rate of external drives. I really wouldn't sweat that failure rate, almost all brands have failures and people have different experiences with them, WD has been praised for low failure rates but I've had a WD drive die while none of my 8 seagate drives have died on me. I'd just go for this one because of the deal but you can try the WD My Passport (I think you get the same 3 year warranty with that one) if you are really concerned about failure rates. You can't remove the WD drive from the case though if thats your intention.

The Good Guys called me an hour ago telling me that the couple I bought for $140.80 pick up were ready to collect an hour after I bought them through eBay. . Thanks OP

  • Do you have to have paypal transaction number to pick them up , I bought a kindle paper white few weeks ago , last week I had an email that say it is ready to be picked up and give a pick up number , last Sun I went ot TGG store Bankstown , I show the lady " Vicky " the email , but she did not even look at it , ask me for licence and ask how I pay for it , if paypal I have to dig out the transaction number or nothing … until now the reader still in the store .

    • In fairness to the Good Guys, they do state in their pick up email that if you pay by Paypal you need the transaction number - it is noted in large text so hard to miss. Sounds like they have had to do this due to 'fake' emails.

If you have paid via PayPal you must also bring a copy of your PayPal confirmation email with the PayPal transaction ID included.

    • yup. every single time, you need the paypal transaction reference number.

  • TGG are up to no good. Says theres no local stock and i'd have to pay for delivery…hmmm jumps onto their official website and says there is plenty of stock available in-store….

  • Sounds like refurbished to me. Are they brand new?

    • of course, they dont sell refurbished goods.
